We’ve got a new Romanian rescue puppy, she’s not scared of the fireworks but is constantly barking at them warning us of danger ......Sealed pot challenge 822

We have three dogs and all hate fireworks. One curls up in corner and pretends hes not there, One retires to her bed so she cant be seen and the little one pants and shakes behind the sofa which is against a wall. She used to watch them but one summere dh went camping with her and there was a bad thunderstorm in the night, a tree fell about a hundred yards from the tent and since then any loud noises frighten her. Fortunately we havent had too many close to us this year but it is horrible watching her even for an hour or two. There is so little you can do to help them.

My little dog is terrified it’s terrible to watch her we have tried everything nothing works we bought her a thunder jacket last year after hearing good reports about them she was frightened every time we got the jacket out she thought the fireworks were starting I’ve always said I’d love to take her into the middle of nowhere bonfire night just so she could have a break but unfortunately it’s not just that night been going on for three weeks round here and some of them sound like a bombs gone of now she’s older she has a heart murmur and it’s just so worrying I wouldn’t care she’s such a lovely little sociable dog we rescued her when she was about a year old and she is as good as gold pleased when it’s all over for another year9

So sad to hear about how animals are suffering when fireworks go off. There are also people who also suffer - I worked with someone whose epilepsy could be triggered by a sudden noise, and someone who has experienced a bombing might also find it traumatic.
There are at least a couple of petitions on the internet to limit the use of fireworks: I don't think I'm allowed to link to them but Mr Google might do it for you.
Personally I love watching fireworks but I'd like to see them limited to Bonfire Night and New Year, and only in organised displays, not private hands. In our town the fire brigade runs the bonfire and fireworks and has a collection at the event to pay for next year's display. It isn't absolutely fool proof but it's a great community event, time limited and with peripheral benefits for the town: we meet friends there, there are fairground rides, hot dog stalls, local radio and a lot of shops stay open to catch the passing traffic.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. I love the photo of your dog SA! It's good that she's impervious to fireworks. And I can just picture your cat at the window watching them with interest!😄
I'm another who would vote for fireworks organised displays limited to Guy Fawkes night and New Year's Eve. The organised displays are so much better - safer all round and a better quality of firework. Finally Debt Free! - July 2016 🌟

Happy Sunday
Was up very early this morning and managed to get the Christmas present DGD wants that was out of stock. Talk about the early bird catching the worm as it went out of stock again shortly after. Also bought DGS's at the same time, so now only have to get something for DD, the dog and the cat and I'm done with Christmas presents. So it wasn't the NSD I was planning but so pleased I got the elusive gift.
The fog hasn't lifted all day here, proper November weather. Have been out for a walk with the dog twice although she wasn't keen on the fog on the park.
Have been quite productive and cleared out the cupboard under the stairs yet again. This is like painting the Forth Bridge and I must empty and put everything back at least twice a year only for it to get back into a mess again. However, this time I've managed to get Mr SA to part with some of the many coats and pairs of shoes in there that he never wears and these have gone in the charity bag. I had a bit of a struggle getting him to part with his hardly worn work boots as he still thinks he may go back to work at some stage. He bought them just over 7 years ago only a couple of weeks or so before he became ill and I remember him struggling to walk in them and thought it was the boots when all along it was the beginning of the brain tumour making him shuffle. Then we turned our attention to his overstuffed wardrobe and drawers and managed to fill another charity bag.
I've put a piece of braising steak in the slow cooker for Mr SA's dinner tonight and I'm having roast salmon with chickpeas, courgette and red pepper. While I've got the oven on I'm going to cook a whole aubergine in tin foil ready for the Quorn lasagne I'm making tomorrow.
Hope everyone is having a super Sunday xI get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)9 -
Well done on sorting out the Glory Hole under the stairs SA! And an especial well done on getting Mr SA to part with his not-needed-anymore clothes and shoes! Just don't let him take this as an opportunity to fill up his pester list again!😆
I'm also very impressed with your Christmas shopping. I've hardly started mine, which is unusual for me. However I think as a family we are going to cut back this year so hopefully it won't be too onerous. Finally Debt Free! - July 2016 🌟
