Interactive study with possibility of earning up to 18 USD (avg. Payment of $11)

Has anyone ever done these? They pop up a lot but the thought of video chatting with other users puts me off. It's a good payout if they're not awful to do though 😅
They are fine. Usually just another person with too much time on their hands and bored. Quite often they don’t show up and you wait and get paid something for being there. If a discussion gets going just remember your payment doesn’t depend on how long you chat for, so don’t talk too much!

What happens when you report a study? Does the report just go to Prolific or does the researcher see it too?

I reported a study last night which was deceptive, and additionally, in my opinion, morally questionable. For one thing I have the flag in my profile set to No for deceptive studies so it shouldn't have appeared in my feed. I answered No in the feedback and said that I wasn't happy with elements of the study and then also reported it to Prolific. Haven't heard anything from either party as yet.

Was that the donation to charity one? I'd guessed they were testing out truthfulness but agree they shouldn't be promising then retracting - that isn't ethical. I've never had any comeback from reporting studies, if that helps?

Yes it was. I doubt those 4 charities would be happy with the situation either with their names and logos being used.

ETA, I did wonder why they were taking demographic data for testing a supposed random number generator.  TBH it's a bit rich testing for honesty, when they weren't being honest themselves.  I did answer honestly.

I've just sent a snotagram to the researcher telling them exactly what I think.

  • I have a static IP with Plusnet but thinking of switching over to BT as it's cheaper but they don't do a static IP unless you are a business customer.

Does anyone here have BT broadband and have there ever been any issues with prolific

    Personality at work

    By Pakeezah Rajab
    £1.50 • £15.70/hr
    Intended completion 10 mins
    Average submission 5 mins

I've just had a rejection for this one. Anyone else? I'm challenging it though. I completed it in just under 4 minutes and the average is obviously a lot lower than the researcher expected. It was 82 short multiple choice questions about how you feel so it wasn't lengthy to read them and select an answer. I'm a very quick reader so I guess I forgot to pause on this one!

What reason did they give for rejecting you? Completing a study "too fast" is explicitly listed in the Prolific help pages for researchers as an invalid reason for rejection, unless you are a statistical outlier, which is clearly not the case here as the average completion time is 5 minutes. (They are supposed to judge this based on the average actual completion time, not on their notional completion time.)

I got a rejection too for 'intentionally giving low effort responses' which is hard to do for multiple choice. I was over 5 minutes and the accusation is simply untrue so I have challenged them to explain.
