I just received a message from a researcher:

You have been asked to return your submission for "A study about bowel cancer screening & colonoscopy (ver 2)" for the following reason(s):

    • Thank you for your interest in our survey.

Unfortunately, your responses to our screening questions meant that you were unable to complete the survey. Please return at your soonest convenience.

Whilst it is doubtless true that their screening questions identified me as ineligible for the study, they did regardless return me to Prolific with a valid completion code (after only a couple of questions), and my understanding is that this type of in-study screening is not allowed by Prolific. Not worth getting into an argy-bargy over something that took about 20 seconds, so I've returned it, but have also reported it to Prolific.

I remember that one, I think the blurb at the beginning said to only complete it if you satisfy certain conditions, otherwise your survey will be rejected.

It does go against the guidelines, really they should have a 1 minute pre-survey for 10p asking if you are eligible to filter you out at the start, and then only offer the main study to those that comply. Or alternatively have a question in the "about me" section to help filtering.

  • Anyone had the one about weights on a scale and then get rejected because you completed it too quickly?  I have messaged the researcher and said, with all due respect, the speed I did it, had nothing to do with my answers. Even if I had taken longer I think my answers would have been the same. Maybe maths is not my strong subject

I'm now frustrated with an "about you" message where I can't complete the question. The question asks "Do you currently use or have you ever used one of the following Buy now pay later financial services when purchasing online" followed by a list. There is no option to say none, so the question remains unanswered and the "about you" won't go away.

I reported that one, because I keep getting nagged about it.

I ended up selecting Amex, because I used to have an Amex card via my bank, so every time I used it I was buying now and paying later (in full, every month). I don't think that's technically what they were asking about, but at least I can get rid of the question without giving a dishonest answer.
I guess in time it will be updated with a "None of the above" option.

This has now been fixed.  In response to my ticket, I got:
"Hi there, Thanks for reaching out. We've now added the None option, you might need to scroll down to find this, particularly on mobile. We really appreciate you getting in touch about this, as it's now resolved for everyone."
So it's worth reporting this sort of thing!

I have done two of those HEREFORD script ones now (interestingly, the second version of the script had incorporated some of the suggestions I had made first time around which was v nice to see). I'm a quick reader so the exercise only took me around an hour, and I made quite a lot of annotations again this time. I found it fun and quite interesting. I can definitely see this becoming a TV drama but they have a way to go with it yet.
