My wish would be that for those of us whose overall earnings are way below the basic tax threshold, there would be some way of making an official declaration of such, without having to go to the trouble of registering as a sole trader and completing a full tax return or relying on HMRC unofficially telling us not to bother.

There is lots of information here

You can also ask questions on the forum, they're usually very helpful.

Back to the Prolific payment system stuff from a few days ago...just had another email saying in part...
"To make sure cashing out on Prolific is always as secure as possible, we’re upgrading our payment system. "As part of this upgrade, we need you to quickly verify your date of birth and address..We’re asking for this information for standard anti-money laundering checks, which are required as part of this upgrade. This isn’t a tax requirement, but it will ensure your Prolific earnings are as secure as possible..."
They link to a support page here - https://participant-help.prolific.com/hc/en-gb/articles/11748058964124-Verifying-your-details-
Might have been helpful if they said that bit I have bolded the first time round !
I checked my own details and they do not appear to need any further change.

Of specific relevance to the discussion here, the FAQ on that support page says:Is this a tax requirement? No, this information isn’t being requested as a tax reporting requirement.
So I guess that answers that.
