I have done some while staying at my parents (40 miles away) in recent months, so I assume the IP thing isn't set in stone

It certainly knew we were in Mauritius recently as we got nowhere near a study and couldn't cash out.  But it doesn't mind when I am away in Surrey although live in Cornwall.

I started a survey a few days ago which was like someone above said, a bit too open questions and I knew it was going to require more effort than I had anticipated.  Returned but got paid £3.75.

A second study on giving feedback on a website was a fail on upload so the 12 minutes of my critique were wasted.  I returned the study and notified the researcher but never got a response.  I got paid this morning as the study reached the maximum days without being paid.  Another £3.75.

If you can get one of the 5 slots left on this it's worth having. I did it yesterday and got £4.75 with the bonus for 7 minutes!

I've had a good week so far, over £15 with £8.50 still to be approved. I only started in December and my best weeks have been just under a tenner.

I had this one last night:

    Object Recognition Task (Limited Slots!!!)

    By Zefan Zheng
    £3.11 • £7.64/hr
    24 mins
    1 place

*ONLY complete participation will be rewarded.*

*Return ASAP in face of technical issues.*

    Welcome to our study!

In this study, you will go through a 10-15 minute eyetracking calibration task and 10-minute object recognition task of briefly presented stimuli.

In order not to waste your time, it is STRONGLY RECOMMEND that 1) you return the experiment as soon as possible if tricky technical issues occur that prevent you from starting the experiment; 2) you sit very comfortably so that you don't have to move your head and body throughout the experiment (calibration and object recognition task). Any significant movements will significantly increase the duration of the experiment. We kindly recommend that you finish the experiment as soon as possible, as the payment is fixed regardless of the time that is spent.

I spent a while on it, it continually failed to calibrate. Even after going through the eye tracking tasks that it said were all fine, it still then said it failed to pass its own test. I gave up and returned it. Have complained to the researcher and to prolific on the "why have I returned it screen,"

I think others on here have had similar experiences with eye tracking tasks a couple of weeks back

Just wondering how the assistant works and if it is worth it?  I've just put it on and other than speaking telling me new studies are available (but there weren't) I can't see any other information.  I thought it was meant to show what studies were available?

  • I've messaged them and got a waffly generic reply (with rather too many exclamation marks for my liking) that my account looks fine and it might just be that I had done too many surveys recently and that apparently affects data quality as I am an 'informed participant' which can bias their results.

The researcher for the ongoing study got back to me and we managed to get the next part done out of Prolific, but she's quite annoyed as well and will be contacting them, so hopefully that will be enough to nudge my account back into active.

I just find it a massive coincidence that I have not had a single study since the exact day my internet connection changed.

@onemouseplace I just find it a massive coincidence that I have not had a single study since the exact day my internet connection changed.

I've occasionally had problems with other survey companies when my internet connection changes.  Have found that taking out the plug the router is connected to, and waiting a couple of minutes before re-connecting usually helps.

Yes it's very useful. It seems to check every couple of minutes, so if a survey comes up that's only got a few slots left, they may all have been filled by the time you receive the alert. If I were to be using the site without the widget, I doubt I'd get much at all. You have to be quick on the draw as soon as you hear the alert unless it's a survey where they are looking for a couple of thousand people.
