One I had the other night (with similar payment) came again Monday but was full. I messaged the researcher and said it was a shame it didn't work. Tuesday she apologised and said she set the study with the wrong settings and would I like to take it again. Oh yes!

I hope people don’t mind me posting this question on this thread.
I joined Prolific late last year and have made a few pounds. My question is around tax on the payouts. Is it a case of submitting a tax return after the end of this tax year? My normal earnings are on PAYE so I’ve never completed my own return.
Was just wondering what others have done and how much of a faff it is.
Thanks in advance.27/5/17 Mort 64705 BTs 1904031/12/17 Mort 59815 BT 1673007/04/20 Mort 49208 BT 1572128/07/20 Mort 47387 BT 1263414/11/20 Mort 45905 BT 10134 20/05/21 Mort 42335 BT 686811/08/22 Mort 32050 BT 2915Sealed Pot Challenge 16 Number 51 -
I'm well up in my 70's, have always had a 'normal' basic Tax Code. I can't remember ever filling in a tax return and have always been a low earner paying basic Tax.
I keep 20 per cent of my Prolific income 'aside' for tax but still not sure how to deal with it. I would dread filling in a tax form but won't want to cheat. I dread sorting it out.
I'll be interested to read replies to your post, AntoMac.1 -
Thanks @Deleted_User
Yes that pretty much sums up how I feel about it. I too am making sure I put the equivalent for any tax aside, pending the dreaded form filling!27/5/17 Mort 64705 BTs 1904031/12/17 Mort 59815 BT 1673007/04/20 Mort 49208 BT 1572128/07/20 Mort 47387 BT 1263414/11/20 Mort 45905 BT 10134 20/05/21 Mort 42335 BT 686811/08/22 Mort 32050 BT 2915Sealed Pot Challenge 16 Number 51 -
I already fill in a self assessment return, so will add my Prolific earnings to that.
I've got no idea on what the threshold of extra earnings is that means you need to fill in SA returns, sorry can't help there. But it might be worth investigating for peace of mind1 -
For what it's worth, though, the form is pretty straightforward and painless (other than the realisation of what you need to pay). The registration process and setting up the govt gateway account is a bit of a PITA though1

You have a £1,000 allowance for this type of earnings. It is called the trading and miscellaneous earnings allowance. If you earn under £1000 from this you don’t need to complete a tax return.
