Object Recognition Task (Limited Slots!!!)
By Zefan Zheng
Despite my best efforts, and checking to make sure that my camera was working, ticked the correct permission and followed the instructions fully and carefully, there were five consecutive messages ""Error during eye tracking set up." ... and advised me to click "Restart." Nothing worked and I am disappointed to have to Return this Study. It is as if The Researcher knew there would be technical problems and absolved him/herself in advance:" Welcome to our study!
In this study, you will go through a 10-15 minute eyetracking calibration task and 10-minute object recognition task of briefly presented stimuli.
In order not to waste your time, it is strongly recommended that 1) you return the experiment as soon as possible if tricky technical issues occur that prevent you from starting the experiment; 2) you sit very comfortably so that you don't have to move your head and body throughout the experiment (calibration and object recognition task). Any significant movements will significantly increase the duration of the experiment. We kindly recommend that you finish the experiment as soon as possible, as the payment is fixed regardless of the time that is spent.
ONLY complete participation will be rewarded.
There are only limited slots for this experiment. Your participation might be denied when all slots are taken.
Thank you for your participation. Wish you have a nice time!

For me this was a waste of time. Did anyone have success with this Study\?
I've tried to get these studies to work but I haven't had any success. I don't start the studies any more. There are usually loads of studies on Prolific and I'd rather go for the ones I think I can complete without any technical problems.
Don't mess with pensioners. :cool:1 -

I have just done the most tedious study ever (and I include the mad chicken one in the mix!)
There is a small note that the study may take longer than they say - YES IT DOES!
It is mobile-based is in two main parts but each part has three parts. It consists of a block of text that you have to type on your phone. Then a second block of text, then some check questions* for comprehension and then the play. The play consists of 336 questions (yes, half of those on each main part). It is a ball ache.
It took me over an hour and 20 minutes. It was dull as dishwater.
However, if you can stand it (having been warned) then I can help:
* There are three check questions. Quickest way is to select the top option for each question. Then submit. It gives you an error under the question that is incorrect and no message under the question that is correct (although it has removed all the options you selected). Insert that correct option and try again on the other questions with the next option down from the one you selected previously, submit and redo if you need to. This takes 2 minutes as opposed to reading each question, comprehending what they are asking and working out what to do.
This takes 2 minutes compared to scrolling and reading and comprehending what they are asking - probably 10 minutes!
Secondly, when you get to the screen telling you that there are 336 questions to answer, you need to swipe the grey box up and down once (it appears after the load screen) and then swipe up or down and click OK. That will select your answer. You can do this in about 1 second per question. If you read them I would say it's 10 seconds or more.
I managed to get £10 bonus doing it this way and if it pays then it is worthwhile. Either way it is still INCREDIBLY DULL. You will see this a page like this 336 times! You do half in part 1 and half in part 2.

The better paid surveys are back for me. Missed a handful that were £6 and £9 (last place so full when I saw them) but I did get a £7.50 (instant), a £4.40 and a £22.50 (which was about social media and the Belgian football team). A couple of £1.50 and the odd 20p, it's been a good day considering I have had the day off due to the snow!1

I passed on a £9.45 one this morning because it was 90 minutes long and I hadn't had my breakfast yet. Not especially well paid given the length, either (and I've just looked it up and seen that the average completion time has risen to 96 minutes, which puts it into underpaying territory.) Still 5 places left, if anyone fancies a look...Also had to pass on a £7.50 / 52 minute one later on because it turned up just before lunch. And there was a £9.70 / 75 minute "Attentional Performance" one last night that I returned because I was tired and I just had a feeling it was likely to be torture by tedium.0

Still scraping along with the low hanging fruit one-minute ones here - any high paying ones have come at times when I can't commit0

Just had a £12 AI one which I nearly didn't do because it said 60 minutes but it was closer to 45 in the end. Quite pleased with that. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1
