Saw and ignored a survey just now.  I think it was £7.09 but it was a 60 minute survey on being hypnotised.  When I read the blurb it said that you may have a one on one five minute interview with a researcher during the survey - didn't like the idea of potentially being in hypnosis and having a one on one!  Dismissed it and then wished I'd take a copy for here....

Tried this one but Firefox said it was trying to track my location which I rejected, then it gave error messages in Japanese so I had to return it.

I had exactly the same - I refused the location tracking and was redirected to some other site, so promptly closed browser and returned the study. Too much hassle for the sake of 20p.
I did do this study (and didn't get a warning about location tracking, but my work security may have blocked it), but on completion of the (quite strange) study, instead of being taken back to Prolific and/or being given a completion code a screen popped up with a large QR code and a message saying to click on the link to something called WePay for an instant cash out. I didn't click, entered NOCODE on Prolific and reported it to them. Very odd, I'm sure they were using the platform to phish.

I contacted the researcher advising them of the location tracking situation and they apologised and said they had fixed the issue.

Site's totally fine and letting me do surveys again now (weird).

Bit odd that a survey from oregonstate.edu was encouraging people to sign up for a British Extinction Rebellion mass protest  (va a link to ER's site).

eta: Survey approved & rewarded almost instantly though.

All the other surveys I got popups for had vanished/saying full by the time (just a few minutes later)  I visited the page

Yes I had that one too. Reported it to prolific for the ER link.

anyone do the two player picture word game? In one of the end questions it asked what we thought about aspects of the task. I am trying to decide if the webcam image of player two 'Chris' was real or automated. He looked real. but the more I think about it the more I'm unsure, especially as it specifically asked me i if thought player 2 was a real person!! If it hadnt asked me I wouldnt have wondered!

I do find these studies interesting, Im always trying to think what theuy are actually gaining, and what the study is actually studying, Im sure its not always what they say!

  • Object Recognition Task (Limited Slots!!!)

    By Zefan Zheng

Despite my best efforts, and checking to make sure that my camera was working, ticked the correct permission and followed the instructions fully and carefully, there were five consecutive messages ""Error during eye tracking set up."  ... and advised me to click "Restart." Nothing worked and I am disappointed to have to Return this Study.  It is as if The Researcher knew there would be technical problems and absolved him/herself in advance:

    Welcome to our study!

In this study, you will go through a 10-15 minute eyetracking calibration task and 10-minute object recognition task of briefly presented stimuli.

In order not to waste your time, it is strongly recommended that 1) you return the experiment as soon as possible   if tricky technical issues occur that prevent you from starting the experiment; 2) you sit very comfortably so that you don't have to move your head and body throughout the experiment (calibration and object recognition task). Any significant movements will significantly increase the duration of the experiment. We kindly recommend that you finish the experiment as soon as possible, as the payment is fixed regardless of the time that is spent.

ONLY complete participation will be rewarded.

There are only limited slots for this experiment. Your participation might be denied when all slots are taken.

Thank you for your participation. Wish you have a nice time!

    Zefan Zheng"

For me this was a waste of time.  Did anyone have success with this Study\?

The Researcher replied along the lines that there was no technical error - there must have been something wrong with my device.  I'm quite unhappy about it.

Anybody have this one? I had to return it as I couldn't get the robot to craft the last item and couldn't get past the screen. Not sure if it was a software issue with my computer

    • In this study, you will collaborate with a robot to craft some items. The robot will already know how to craft some of the items, and you will be able to teach the robot how to build new items.
    • A bonus will be awarded according to crafting performance during the main task.

In the past I have had it, not recently.  I am useless at these things and couldn't get the  robot to build anything.  I was rejected. I appealed to the researcher, explained it was difficult and he allowed me to return it.
