Academic survey. Asked to return almost immediately - "According to our records, you had taken another similar study before.  Please cancel your participation for this study."

Isn't that what prescreening is meant to be for?

    Well today has been interesting....

Earlier on, I took "Exploring Langauge Markers -2nd phase-" which timed out whilst I was awaiting a response from the researcher to a question. I think the researcher got the pay wrong here; it was advertised at £13 and I suspect it should have been £1.30.

Then I had "Box Task" which was extremely underpaying, although I did see that the 'Report Study' function was back - I definitely took advantage of it on this one!

Good luck to anyone who takes these two studies!

Did the "Exploring Langauge Markers" include exploring alternative spellings of "language"? ;)

Haha well spotted! Yes, that was the study title verbatim. It was actually a whole lot of speaking, but broken down into very small chunks. It does put me off a bit when researchers can't even spell the study name correctly, however in this case, £13 for what was posted as a 10 minute was too good to pass up (even though I discovered it was closer to 30!).
Have you been paid for this study? and did it finish with a completion code?  I did the study but the page didn't progress anywhere so I ended doing all the exercises to see if that made a difference.  It still didn't move the page on and as I didn't want to time out I submitted with a no code, but I have no idea whether the researcher got any data from me or not as I ended up just closing the page down.  I have sent a message asking if she wants me to return the study but havn't heard anything yet.

Had that twice (so far) today. I mentioned in the comments to Prolific when I returned it that the researcher ought to pre-screen for people who have done their previous similar studies.

I had this one too, elsien and ollibean, and, like you, I had to return it as required.

    Box task

    By kit.edu

    £2.00 • £3.68/hr

    32 mins

    0 places
In the following experiment, we will present different boxes to you that contain different numbers. We ask you to estimate the mean. You can win an additional bonus of up to £1.

An unusual 'estimate the average' study which at face value looks under paid.

In reality it took 20mins, which was the estimated completion time, so was not far off the mark so don't let the payment per hour figure put you off too much.

Edit - got paid quite quickly and received a £1.50 bonus, so all good.

So I actually got timed out of the study whilst waiting for a response from the researcher on that very same subject. The study implied that there was a second part that would be activated once the main tasks had been completed - like you, I went and did all of them but nothing happened.

I messaged the researcher again to let them know what had happened, and that as I'd completed all tasks I expected full payment. I reckon they published the study incorrectly; I wouldn't be surprised if it was meant to be £1.30 not £13 and they ran out of credit (only 30-odd places taken out of hundreds!). For £13 I absolutely will escalate this one to Prolific if I don't hear back within a week.

Happily most of the studies I have completed recently have been paid with the researcher utilising the 'new' instant pay optional setting.  Whether that has been entirely accidental seen as the default is set to on, or intentional I do not know, but welcome none the less.

I can sympathise however, as at times in the past I have been frustrated at having so many studies going the full time before payment.

When this happens I always dread the email informing me that I have been rejected and even though this occurrence has been infrequent, it still gives me that sinking feeling in the stomach. :)

Had this in a study today which made me laugh.

Note. gibberish or irrelevant content will hurt your payment.
