The village tour experience - By Ranran Cui
Feeling quite frustrated and asking myself if I'll ever learn!  When this Study became available again I clicked on it, stupidly thinking that the Researcher had resolved the problem of it being in Chinese and linked to a separate website requiring login and password.  Prolific ID not accepted.

I am afraid it is exactly the same this third time as on the two earlier occasions and this Study also had to be returned.  I was polite  when contacting thesResearcher on this third occasionI'm beginning to wonder if this is another Study from the Researcher known to many of us who seems to waste our (and Prolific's) time.

Once more I reported this to Prolific but, if it is from the same time wasting 'Researcher' it sounds as if nothing will be done.

Just after typing this the same Study popped up again with free spaces.

You will be asked to read through a the steps and instructions on a team culture exercise carefully and complete all activities in the exercise, including answering multiple choice and open-ended questions. The activity is designed for team leaders with direct reports. We ask for your focused attention as you reflect and engage with this activity, providing thoughtful, honest responses. Please set aside at least 10 minutes to complete this study.

This study popped up early this morning and says to set aside at least 10 mins, well it took me 25 mins due to a lot of typing involved.

I almost returned it after the second page, but decided to persevere as it has been slow lately study wise.

Edit - payment adjustment of 17p made.

In this study, we will ask you to install a mobile application for two weeks and respond to some of the surveys that the application will send you on three different occasions daily. We will contact you again at the end of two weeks for the final study. We will not collect personal information or track you during this timeframe except for your responses with anonymous IDs. There may be opportunities to earn bonuses that will be credited to your account at the end of two weeks.

Devices you can use to take this study:

    • Mobile

    You will also need:

    • Download software

My first study of the new month (Happy August everybody) and it looks like a fail. The installation instructions required me to copy a code which then failed to paste in the app.

    gender attitudes (main study)

This study investigates close personal relationships and gender attitudes. You will be asked questions about your romantic relationships and the relationships with your children. The survey will also include questions about your attitudes towards fatherhood, child-rearing, and gender roles. Finally, you will be asked some standard demographic questions.

Study waiting when I logged on this morning.  Nothing too demanding just a tick box exercise, but did seem to be more aimed at parents with younger children living at home.

Timing pretty accurate according to my stopwatch.

    Talk to the AI chatbot

In this study you will have open-ended conversations with an AI chatbot that is attempting to answer your questions. The chatbot has been trained to follow certain “rules”. For each conversation we will show you a rule and ask you to ask the chatbot questions that you think might encourage it to break the rule.

Attempted this study in Firefox first of all but just got an error message, so switched to Chrome and all seemed well until about half way through when the connection was lost.  I contacted the researcher to inform them and waited for the connection to be re-established.

After 5 mins and no reply from the researcher, I refreshed the page but this just started the study from the beginning all over again, which is what I was worried would happen!

Eventually completed with no further errors but took me well over an hour.

Edit - have been paid for this study but no reply from the researcher, which I find quite irritating I must admit, even if it was well paid.

I did this one too, luckily didn’t have any issues.

Got a bit boring after a while but a high paying study.

What Features Are Useful For Humans In Distinguishing Authentic / Fake Face Images?

    By nd.edu

    £4.00 • £8.23/hr

    29 mins

    0 places

This task involves asking subjects to classify a face image as (a) the image of an authentic person or (b) the synthetic image(e.g., computer-generated image of non-existing person, such as those seen at https://www.thispersondoesnotexist.com). You will be asked to annotate which features were important for you to solve this task. In this experiment you will use an online annotation tool, which will require login credentials delivered to you in the last step. If the images do not load immediately, please wait for 30s and they should load.

Note you will be required to watch an instructional video to gain access to the experiment.

There was one place left when I clicked on this so did not hold out much hope, but surprisingly got the place.

Interesting study but a bit repetitive, took me 32 mins according to the stopwatch and that was including watching the instruction video on youtube, the pages were a bit slow to load, which could have been my end.

    Health behavior

    By Otto Simonsson

    £0.90 • £6.45/hr

    8 mins

The aim of this study is to better understand factors (e.g., substance use) that predict health behavior. You will be required to complete a set of surveys assessing your health behaviors along with demographic measures. You will be asked sensitive questions (e.g., about substance use). To have your submission accepted, you must correctly answer questions designed to check if you are paying attention. Anonymized data may be made available to other researchers. Approximately two month after completing this study, you will be invited to complete a second study. Please ONLY participate in this study if you think you will be able to complete the second study.

Another one place left study that I managed to secure a place on.

Took me longer than the quoted time as there are a couple of text boxes to be typed into, but did not see the stopwatch figure, as right at the end the cat decided to have projectile vomit moment down the radiator, which is impossible to get at until it drips out of the bottom.

Why do they make radiators like this?

Yes,  you would think that radiator manufacturers would do proper CAT tests.

Absolutely, if they are designed to be in domestic properties and over a quarter of households in the UK own cats then you would think ease of cleaning would be considered, not just because of cats but for children's behaviour as well.

Built in obsolescence I assume :)
