TikTok Video Advertisements (only for TikTok users)
By Miaolei Jia£2.50 • £6.47/hr23 mins3 placesIn this study, we want to learn about how consumers make common decisions regarding food consumption. We only recruit participants who are TikTok users for this study (e.g., have watched TikTok videos on their phones). This study has been appearing on and off for a while but even though I have a TikTok account, it is not a site I use a great deal as I prefer longer videos on YouTube or Odysee, but seen as it has been very quiet on Prolific for a few days I thought I would give it a go.However on the first page of the study it states:"You will be asked to use your computer camera to record your facial expressions while you are watching these videos, and upload and share your facial expression recordings with us through Qualtrics".I do not have a web cam on my laptop that I always use for Prolific and in my about you questions I advise that I am not willing to record myself via a webcam as part of a study.Oh well, study returned and hopefully it wont come back.2 -

Choosing preferred gestures: online experiment
Hosted by sms.ed.ac.uk
This has never happened before but, when clicking to start the study on my reserved place, this notice came up: "Attackers might be trying to steal your information from zhouding.ppls.ed.ac.uk"
"zhouding.ppls.ed.ac.uk uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because it is self-signed."
I contacted the Researcher and apologized for any inconvenience as I understand from the Researcher that other Prolific Participants have completed the study with no difficulty - it is a University of Edinburgh Study and should be safe.
The Researcher got back to me: "Sorry to hear that. I don't know why it's happening. Our website is hosted on a server provided by the University of Edinburgh"Unfortunately, but to be safe, I had to Return the Study.

Choose the best reply
By LRL Humans£12.00 • £16.28/hr44 mins6 placesAs part of your task we ask you to look at conversation snippets between a user and an AI. You'll be shown multiple possible continuations for the conversation, and asked to indicate which one is the best. As a research participant you will be asked to:
- Read a snippet consisting of a conversation between a user and an AI. The conversation may include AI using a search engine.
- Rate the possible continuation of the conversation.
- Indicate which of several possible continuations to the conversation is the best.
Try to reach the task count of in the upper left corner but if you find yourself getting fatigued please end the session rather than continuing for longer than the study duration. We are more interested in quality rather than quantity.
Please continue for the allotted time - the UI will show a minimum number of tasks, but you should continue past this to reach the target time specified in Prolific and then click 'End Session' button.
Note that sometimes tasks can take a while to load, up to 10s. If the delay causes you to complete less tasks than expected, don't worry, feel free to end before reaching the task count and we will still accept your submission.
Note that our study software has been tested to work on Google Chrome; we cannot guarantee that it will work on other browsers.

Label high and low quality messages from an AI
By Joe from Pie Platform702 placesThank you for taking the time to review this study. We appreciate your help.£5.00 • £4.09/hr73 minsSummary
In this study, you will see a conversation between an AI and a person. Your task is to rate the AI's response to each message of the conversation based on whether they contain informative statements.
The study will be completed in the Pie Platform and instructions will be shared with participants once you sign-up to the study.
You will be asked to review 5 conversations, each containing ~15 messages from the AI.
Payment
You will be paid £10 per hour, we expect the task will take 30 minutes.
Updates
If you have taken part in previous studies (thank you!), we have used your feedback to streamline and make the study simpler and easier to complete.
We hope you enjoy the study.
£5.00 • £4.09/hr73 minsThis one came via an email invitation from "Jim from Prolific" this morning. Although it presents as underpaying, I started it on the basis that I did the previous study - which had 10 conversations and an estimated completion time of 60 minutes for £10, but in fact only took me 30 - and the promise that it has been "streamlined" and made "simpler and easier to complete."In fact, the number of questions asked about each message has been greatly increased, from 3 to 16 - over 2.6 times as many questions in total, despite halving the number of conversations - hardly streamlined. I got about 1/3 of the way through the first conversation in about 5 minutes, which suggests 15 minutes per conversation and the average completion time shown of 73 minutes for 5 conversations doesn't seem unrealistic. I returned it as underpaying.4 -
I've just been offered this one too, Olliebean. I'm not doing it either as 73 minutes was about how long it took the last two times I was offered one of these, and both times they paid £10. To do what they want does take a lot of time so 73 minutes doesn't seem unlikely and it'd be hard to do what you've described in 30 minutes. £5 is too low.

Survey on Virtual Trip and Memory
Please participate only you are willing to watch a 5-minute video on a demo of a virtual trip and answer some questions about it.
Note that you will be invited to participate in another survey (three days from now), which relates to the video you watch in this survey. Please participate ONLY IF you are willing to complete both surveys.
There will be an attention check while you watch a video. And if you fail to successfully complete that question, you may not receive full compensation for participating.By M Han£0.98 • £8.96/hr6 mins0 places
I watched the video diligently, wondering when the attention check would appear. Right at the end I spotted the words "click on the cat below". i don't know if they had been there for a while and I hadn't seen them either because of my screen size or because I was concentrating on the video, or if they had appeared late. Anyway I tried to scroll down to find the cat, but the study advanced to the question section.
I sent messages about this and the study paid out straight away, luckily. I thought I was going to be on for my first rejection!0 -
Yes I had the email from Jim as well directing me to this one:

Odd that prolific would direct us to an underpaying study. As soon as I saw the statement from the researcher expecting the task to take 30 mins, I assumed that it would in fact take a lot longer. Returned as underpaying. If they want meaningful responses they need to be paying more, most attempting this study will just rush through it most likely.

The AI studies previously paid £10 which was just about right given that they weren’t exactly riveting.
£4.04 an hour - wouldn’t touch with a barge pole. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0
