The Flickering Stripes Challenge
By ucl.ac.uk0 placesIn this study, you will make decisions about briefly flashed noisy images of black and white stripes. It's a real challenge. The top 30% of participants will get a double payment, and the top 5% a triple payment.£1.88 • £7.89/hr14 mins
Sigh, yet more technical problems. I was about a third of the way through and the screen froze for a while and then the images started flickering wildly, so I could not complete the task unfortunately, so yet another return.
I think it was my laptop at fault this time though, as when the problems occurred I could see an unusual amount of swap space being used.
'Swap' is a peculiarity of Linux and is strange because it is not a regular occurrence for my machine to react this way.
Oh well 'non curae sibi est'.

Thanks for that, I thought it was my end tbh. I am going to set up one of my other laptops soon as this old Dell is starting to play up a bit.

Are you willing to change clothes for the sake of science? Copy
By wcupa.edu8 placesAre you interested in fashion? Are you willing to change clothes for the sake of science? If so, this study is for you! We are conducting this academic research study to learn more about how wearing different types of clothing affects people's thoughts and feelings at work.
IMPORTANT: To participate in this study, you must meet three requirements.
- First, you must be at home with access to different outfits.
- Second, you must be willing to change clothes as instructed.
- Third, you must be willing/able to upload a picture of your outfit.
What you will have to do for this study.
- First, you will be asked to change your outfit and take and upload a picture of what you are wearing and then will be asked a series of questions.
- Second, you will be asked to change into a different outfit that conforms to some general characteristics of clothing that we'll describe. Don’t worry, all instructions are entirely work appropriate and just involve different characteristics of clothing (e.g., styles, features, etc.)
Please note, the uploaded photos will be used for research purposes only and will not be shared outside of our research team. Also please note, we are asking participants to frame or crop their photos so that their faces are not visible. We know that this may sound strange. But, for this academic research, it is absolutely essential. Later, we will have trained research assistants code all of the pictures we receive according to some typical characteristics (e.g., color, styles, etc.). We will try to link those characteristics to participants' responses in this survey. We will delete the photos at the conclusion of this research project.
Please note, it is critical for this research study that participants actually upload photos of the clothes they wear during this study. Images will be verified for authenticity and improper submissions be rejected on Prolific.
£3.58 • £7.15/hr30 mins
Anyone attempt this study?
Looked like a lot of work and I would think it would take me a long while to change clothes take photos and upload them, all for £3.58.

They seem to be asking quite a lot; apart from anything else, how would you know if you're going to have suitable clothes available to fit the particular instructions they give you? It would be very frustrating to go to the trouble of getting dressed up, photographing your outfit and answering the first set of questions, only to be asked to change into something in a style or colour that you don't have in your wardrobe. Plus you'd need a full-length mirror, or someone else willing to take the photos. Definitely sounds like more than £3.58's-worth.

A study about consumer decision making
By binghamton.eduThe purpose of this survey is to understand how consumers such as you behave in various spending situations.98 places£0.60 • £3.19/hr
11 minsFirst study of the day and sadly yet another underpaying one.Took me about 20 mins to complete as there are a few sections of typing to complete.Reported as underpaying to Prolific but this usually has no effect in my experience.Sort of rate I expect on sites like Qmee, but sadly all too common on Prolific lately.

The 'adjustment' for underpayment seems hit and miss and Prolific no longer seem to respond to very much at all.
Still very good for me, over £100 this month so far but it does feel a lot less user friendly than it used to.
These days I usually take the underpayers on the chin or don't bother rather than expecting a fix.3 -
Remember, studies should be paying at least £6/hour from today.

I don't think anything will change - perhaps I'm being too cynical, but the studies that paid generously and fairly for the effort involved will continue to do so, I think, and the less desirable ones (example being the one Yupiteru mentioned) will continue to 'game' the system and give unreasonable completion times to get their studies on the platform.3
