In complete contrast with 'Y Live' (ex PopulusLive) I get 3 or 4 £50 payments a year.  Of course on the 'Y Live' website they state 'Here at Y Live, we typically pay members £1 for every minute they spend answering the questions provided'.

I can only assume that claim is meant purely for answering the questions and not reading them or any other aspect of the survey, ha, ha, makes me laugh!

It's £1 every 5 minutes - £1 per minute, as they state erroneously in the FAQ, really would be generous! And yes, for the most part I've only been able to finish their surveys in the estimated time by rushing through them (not clicking randomly, but clicking where the tickboxes are going to be before they actually appear, and skim-reading the long series of questions at the start that are the same in every survey) - and even then, where there are pages with more than one answer required, or free text answers, they rarely come in at the time stated (their estimates are clearly based on one multiple choice answer per page). Still good pay regardless, though.

Thanks for replying, warby68.  Has the Researcher replied to you and did you receive  a completion code?  I have not heard from the Researcher yet.

    Thanks.

    Yes, got a code

    No, no reply sorry.

They may give you a chance to complete it as they're going to have a lot of returned, half completed studies. Hopefully anyway

Yes I understand it is an error, just thought it was funny, but yes they rarely come in at the time stated.  The monthly 'Tesco magazine' ones can completed in the quoted time in my experience, but they are short and lower paid anyway I suppose.

Not complaining really, but they seem to have a knack of sending an invitation just as I am sitting down for my evening meal. I have many a time eat with one hand and typed with the other, just to get a place.

Result is curry everywhere and having to use the stain remover when next washing my clothes!

Speaking of payment.  This popped up at 6.30 this morning with plenty of places and did hang around for a long time, but I have no time available to spend an hour or more completing a study this early, especially for this sort of reward.

The accompanying text states 'will take 1 to 2 hrs to complete but you can take breaks'

If it had been £10 I just might have tried to squeeze it in but no thanks, not 6.30 in the morning, I have not yet had enough coffee to kick start my brain yet.

I clicked to start this study just after 6.30 this morning, yupiteru and was pleased to start straight away.  Everything seemed to be going well as I answered the questions and ticked the boxes.  After 15 minutes, when I clicked next, as instructed, to go to the next page, a sign/notice came up occupying the screen saying that there was no credit left.

The only choice I had was to click O.K. and, when I did, the screen went black.  I waited then when it was possible, I clicked 'completed study but with NO CODE.I did this because I had already completed quite a bit of the study and was not asked to Return the Study.

The study was to take 55 minutes and was to be £5.

I sent a message to the Researcher to explain what had happened and what I had done and I let Prolific know.

I wonder if this has happened to anyone else after starting this study?

Oh dear, I hope you get something out of it for your efforts.  It is so annoying when this sort of things happens.

Looking on the bright side (for me!), if there was a global error, maybe the study will be restarted at a more friendly time for me to partake.

In this study, you will rate the emotions expressed
    £0.61 • £2.16/hr

    16 mins

Started this one hoping there was an error with the timing or the per hour rate, but when briefly looking at the time left to complete, reached the conclusion that I was going to time out if I didn't up my pace a bit.

Took me just under 30 mins I think in the end, so just finished in time with not much to spare as the maximum time allowed was 30 mins.  I am a bit snail like on the keyboard mind you, I will admit

I noticed that 'mturk' was part of the url so maybe the researcher is not familiar with Prolific way of doing things?
Never mind I expect a big bonus will make up for it (yeah right!)

The researcher's estimated time on that was 5 minutes, and I started it thinking maybe an outlier had pushed the average completion time up. Gave up and returned it when I saw the first of 30 tasks and realised it was definitely going to take longer. The description said, "This study will take around 5 minutes depending on your effort." I guess they're expecting people to make no effort at all. Perhaps I should have completed it in that spirit.

It is disappointing, olliebean, but, unfortunately that seems to happen quite often with estimated time not being accurate.

I have just had to Return another study, after reserving a place on:

    Play The Investment Game

and attempting to start straight away, to find that:  "There were too many participants."  It was not a Gorilla platform one this time so I'm beginning to think that this is an increasing problem.  The Study remained active for quite some time and I had no option eventually  other than to Return this study.

Yes this happened with me too on this one  - Play the Investment Game. I've been doing Prolific for a year now but the last couple of weeks in particular have been terrible for studies which I have had to return. Either they are full, Gorilla platform or another tech issue. It is somewhat reassuring to know it is not just me!
  • Yes, MrsWhippy, it seems to be happening much more often now.

Doubt there would be many complaining about the payment for this (missed) one..
