Re:
Social Decision making in everyday interactions (New dates)
Hosted by Amsterdam Cooperation Lab:I quickly read through the instructions and decided to start this two part Study - it seemed really interesting. After starting I came to a part where it said I would be asked to provide the email addresses of three people who knew me.This made me feel uncomfortable and I decided to Return the Study. I contacted the Researcher and very quickly received a reply aplogizing for making me feel uncomfortable and explaining that this information was contained in the instructions. I must have missed it because I would not have proceeded had I realized that this was a requirement. To be fair the Researcher was apologetic and replied to my message straight away.I am surprised that Prolific would allow a Study where the requirement to participate included the necessity to provide email addresses for three people who know the Prolific Participant.Has anyone else participated in this two part Study and, if so, how do you feel about having to provide email addresses of three people who know you? Thank you.CrimsonPlease see my UPDATE in my post on Page 619*

I wouldn’t provide email addresses without the consent of the person, which I wouldn’t ask for for something like this. I could potentially provide 3 of my own email addresses as a work round. What reason did they give for wanting them - surely the person would need to know that for GDPR? Was there anything in the consent form? If not, there should have been. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -
Thanks elsien. There was nothing obvious in the initial information that referred to the the requirement to provide email addresses and no explanation that I could see*. It was mentioned about information about 'Social Networking' but it may be that, much further on, after starting, the information about the email address was included - although not at an early point. There was no obvious reference that I could see to GDPR.I would not have wasted the Researcher's time by reserving a place had I picked up this requirement at an early stage.*UPDATE: I have just managed to read further into the information just now and I have found this:"Near the end of the study, you will be asked to provide emails of three other people from your social network. We will share a similar, but shorter questionnaire asking them to report on your relationships. By participating they will have a chance to win an iPad."It will be interesting to hear if anyone on this Forum has participated and to know how they got on.Crimson

A study about customer interfaces
By Naim Zierau£1.00 • £7.18/hr8 minsThis one had a microphone checker page at the start, which did not register anything when I spoke into my microphone, although I checked that the microphone is working in the Windows settings and have used it successfully in previous studies. I had to return the study, which is always annoying. Did anyone else try this one and have similar problems?0 -
I've not seen that one, olliebean. It's frustrating when you want to proceed but can't do it. When you Returned the Study did you let Prolific know that it was a technical problem?Crimson0

Quite often, although not always, there is no response after informing the Researcher about a trechnical problem.I hope you hear from the Researcher, olliebean.Crimson0

Anyone else try this one and succeed. I went through all the calibration and yet after each set of letters it said I needed to recalibrate the eye tracking, which considering there were 150 sets would've taken me hours, so I had to exit out. I don't know whether it's a fault on my computer, like its not fast enough or whether others struggled as well. Shame as it was quite enjoyable but I would've ran out of time. I have sent a message to the researcher explaining as they had asked for feedback even if you don't complete the study which does indicate that others may have had the same problem.0 -
Towards a new socio-economic model
By Pierre-Victor Morales0 placesYou are being invited to take part in a research study. Before deciding to participate, it is important that you understand why is this research taking place, and what does it involve.£1.10 • £8.56/hr

Having a better day of it today, as of 11.00 o clock have completed 6 studies, but all pretty low pay unfortunately, but no technical problems yet.
This one being the highest amount, lets hope the trend continues as i have plenty of time available today.

The Flickering Stripes Challenge
By ucl.ac.uk0 placesIn this study, you will make decisions about briefly flashed noisy images of black and white stripes. It's a real challenge. The top 30% of participants will get a double payment, and the top 5% a triple payment.£1.88 • £7.89/hr14 mins
Sigh, yet more technical problems. I was about a third of the way through and the screen froze for a while and then the images started flickering wildly, so I could not complete the task unfortunately, so yet another return.
I think it was my laptop at fault this time though, as when the problems occurred I could see an unusual amount of swap space being used.
'Swap' is a peculiarity of Linux and is strange because it is not a regular occurrence for my machine to react this way.
Oh well 'non curae sibi est'.
