Childrens Birthday Party - questions & ideas (merged)

  • I'm suppose to prepare a birthday party for my little nephew - he's going to be 5 too and I have no ideas at all - I mean really no ideas.
I looked through the internet and found some tips that might be helpful even though they are something that probably every parent knows, but I'm not familiar with them - for example why the party shouldn't be far from home :) :

    • Don’t spend what you can’t afford
    • Don’t hold the party too far from home.
    • Don’t have too long a party
    • Don’t spend a fortune on food – you’ll cry at the waste
    • Don’t invite too big an age range
    • Don’t invite children your child doesn’t know
    • Don’t invite the whole class except one – it’s cruel.
    • Do make sure that you are organised enough not to get stressed during the party – not fair on your child!
    • Do make sure you have enough games or activities to fill the time.
    • Don’t make your child have a party if he doesn’t want one – plan a special outing instead.
  • Oh I also forgot to poste a great game I found for the Kids and I hope they'll like it:

    The Shopping Game
Set up your shop – this is a great job for an older sibling or cousin. You need a table with dishes of various sweeties and lollies, each sweetie costs a certain number of pasta pieces so make some labels. Scatter dried pasta in a “hidden but visible” way in the sitting room or garden. Give each child a bag with their name written on it. When everyone is ready, the kids run off to find pasta pieces and then they go to the shop to buy their sweets. Some kids will scoff everything straight away but a surprising number like to fill their bag and take them home. A ready made party bag! This game can last 20 minutes and if you make it the last game you can always give a bag to siblings arriving to collect their brothers and sisters. Everyone is happy and you appear to be a generous host!

Bootrix - where did you get the plain white paper bags? Saw this idea in an earlier post so went to partners and party shop today but neither had them and in fact looked at me like I'd gone mad - i think it's a great idea.

You can get them on eBay in various sizes, with or without handles and in lots of different colours (just search for 'paper bags' and refine it from there), or if you have a friendly market trader/shopkeeper nearby who uses them, they may be willing to sell some to you.

  • Hi all just a few ideas please...... my little girl has decided on a princess birthday theme. girls only no boys she will be five has just started school and hates boys tee hee. The venue is going to be where i work at a youth and community centre so decorating the room to look like a princess castle isn't going to be a problem. the problem i have is food ideas. we thought about

buns decorated with pink icing and on top putting cheap plastic princess rings
sanwiches cut into heart shapes but im lost as to what else to do.
    also party bag ideas?
im ok when it comes to helping others but my mind is at a blank at the moment. Guess having the week from hell isn't helping either.
any suggestions will be greatfully received
    thanks

Hi, could anyone please give me ideas for my daughters 1st birthday. It is on Easter sunday, we have a very small house so have decided to have 2 parties, an early one for the kids and a later one for any adults (grandparents etc that don't have young children) its more the kids party I am bothered about.

    TIA

    Part of the Furniture
How old will the children be? And are they family or friends, or a mix?

I know when it comes to family parties, our lot are all happy just playing together, I don't need to arrange anything in particular. The same would hold true if they're all diddy.

If you have some older ones, how about an egg hunt, seeing as it is also easter. Or simple games like pin the tail, musical statues and pass the parcel.

You could set up a ball pit for the littlies - you only need a cheap inflatable pool and a bag of balls - could probably do it for about £7 from the supermarkets/pound shops if you don't already have bits (balls are usually around £4, pools £3).

Nursery rhymes and action games would go down well too
