dont know if this is of any use to u too found them today whilst looking for something else

    http://www.partybox.co.uk/themes.asp?theme=116

how about making some signs for the garden/room eg: Monkey hangout, Beware of the Lions, Hippopotamus Crossing, Zebra Stampede, Giraffes Eating, Jungle Ahead, Alligator Crossing and Watch out for the Tigers.

im not sure how arty u are but what about those long cardboard tubes from inside carpets...... a local carpet shop may donate a few and make them into palm trees paint the tube brown add green leaves and u could plant them in buckets of soil or around ur garden if u have borders.

i also thought about face painting get a friend or teenager to help it doesnt need to be anything fancy just a black nose and whiskers

    games
pin the tail on the lion
[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica] "FEED THE MONKEY" BEAN BAG TOSS
Paint a monkey face on a box using one large brown circle
for the head and two smaller circles for the ears. Use a utility knife
(ADULTS ONLY), to cut a large opening where the mouth would be and add the eyes and nose with black paint.
Now make or purchase 3-4 yellow beanbags (bananas). Socks filled with dried beans and secured with rubber bands will work well.
To play, mark an "X" the floor where the player will stand. Place the "monkey box" a reasonable distance form the "X" and the children will
take turns feeding the hungry monkey his bananas!

will add more if i can think of anything

I had a thought if you couldn't get the carpet ones if you have a material shop close by they may be able to help and would work just as well i reckon.

Does anyone know how may portions you can (reasonably) get from an Asda picture birthday cake.I need to get 30-40 pieces. Should I be buying 2?
  • I'm trying to picture how big they are compared to their traybakes - I know they are about 16 portions, so unless the picture cake is significantly bigger, you may be pushing it for 40 - depends how generous a slice you want to give :)

  • Just thought I'd mention a party idea I had, in case anyone can use it.

http://www.nurseryandtoys.com/ have some Smoby watering cans and buckets in their sale - all good quality, with rrps of between £1 and £2 each, but the cans are £4.99 for 30 (16.5p each), and the buckets are 5p each (so even with their rather high postage of £5.99, still a good price - the vouchers/referrals boards should be able to provide a £5 voucher for new customers anyway). (As there isn't a picture of the bucket, I'll just say, it's a plain round bucket, sand castle size, and for colour I got an equal proportion of bright yellow, orange and green).

Anyway, I've picked these up for youngest, whose birthday is March (advanced planning, I know, but at that price? ...) - will do either a garden party, or an Ugly Bugs Ball (scope for dressing up there too), fill the watering cans with a few sweets and a ballon, and during the party, each child will get to plant a seed (sunflower or similar), which can be carried away in the bucket, along with any colouring etc they might do (craft tables are great for the quieter ones of any age group).

Nice and simple, and as the 'party bags' become part of the gift, they will get used, rather than being discarded as many cheap fillers are.

Any watering cans/buckets that are left over at the end, can either be carbooted if you're doing one, or donated to the next school fete or local playgroup.

    :)

Oh, and if you have a Princess party planned soon, or many little girls to buy for over the year - they also have a 'Cinderella Magic Slipper Game', rrp £14, for £1.49.

I bought some of these for Christmas - along with the buckets and cans, I got over £150 worth of goods (inc delivery) delivered for less than £20

  • One thing I did at my daughters party which worked well was to get those plain white paper lunch bags instead of party bags, loads of stickers, feathers, glitter etc and have them decorate their own party bags to take home. Kept them entertained for a bit too.
  • Children at the school my kids attend are put into classes according to age. Consequently there are lots of birthdays withi na few weeks which worked out expensive. Last year 12 of us decided to have a joint party aimed at an in between date. We hired a hall . booked a family dj and a childrens entertainer and bought in a buffet. It was a fab family event - cost £45 each. Each child took along a gift to the value of £15. So much cheaper all round
  • My partner went and bought some craft items so that the kids (all 5 year old girls) could make their own party hats. They all had fun doing it and it took up the first 20 mins of the 2 hour party. We set out her toys in one corner of the garden and let them play together. We barely had enough time for 2 party games (we planned for 6). The 2 hours went very quickly.
