Childrens Birthday Party - questions & ideas (merged)

I don't think you can beat Tesco Extra for party bags. For my son's first birthday I bought a little chunky plastic vehicle for each bag for just 64p each. I also included a couple of handmade sticker badges, a bottle of bubbles that worked out at about 16p per bottle, a handmade "thank you for coming" card (for the Mums) and a piece of homemade birthday cake.
For slightly older kids though what I like are the 99p multipacks of party bag toys like chalk and slate sets, keyrings, snap cards, fluffy pens and toy cars. You can get those boxed metal cars for 44p each (I bought DS one today lol). You can get a set of ten party bags and fill them for a fiver and I've found Tesco cheaper than the pound stores as well as better quality on numerous occasions.
Oohhh I love a good party me, can't wait for DS's second birthday this September... Asked the ex about renting a hall and he said we can't afford it so sod him, will do it myself!0 -

also ebay had some fireman sam plates etc.
what about printing out pictures from cbeebies website of firman sam for the lill uns to colour in.
FIRE TRUCK PARTY DECORATIONS
red and yellow balloons around the party area.
Cover your table with a white sheet or fire truck fabric.
Make a centerpiece out of balloons tied to a fire truck toy or fire hat.
Banner saying " Sound the alarm ***** is 3 today"
PARTY GAMES
get the children to pretend they are fire engines and when they here the sirens.....nee naw nee naw they have to freeze.
if you have a garden or large back yard how about a small obsticle course....stepping stones, tyres, inflatable garden toys, slides, cars etc. put them thru rigarous training and at they end reward them with a medal for bravery or a fire chief badge/hat.
Musical Fire Hydrants or Fire Engines
Before the party use card or paper to make fire hydrants or fire engines. you could probably get images off the net.
To play, randomly place them on the floor around the party room. Play music while the children move around the room. When the music stops, each child needs to find a Fire hydrant or fire engine to stand on.
as for food im all out of ideas at the moment but will edit if i can think of anything.

what about ringing your local fire brigade..... if they arent busy training on that day im sure they would love to suprise your lill one.
an idea for cup cakes.... cover them with red icing....use those little log pretzel things to resemble fire wood and then place red/orangesweet in the middle to look like lill fires.
"Rescue the Animal" Relay
Divide kids into two teams, and have them line up. The first child in each line must put on a coat, pair of boots and a firefighter hat (coat and boots should be slightly oversized to fit all kids), walk across the room and pick up a stuffed animal (completing the animal rescue), and then carry the animal back to the line where he passes the coat, boots and hat to the next child. Rescues continue until everyone has rescued an animal. The first team to finish wins, or everyone can be a winner and keep his or her rescued animal.Pain is temporary!! quitting is permanent0 -

For my dd 4th bday(not till May) I've bought Tesco beakers with a lid and a straw with cows on £1 each and will fill them with mini chocolate bars (so no party bags), I got fed up of all the junk in their party bags which ends up in the bin, not very eco friendly, Last year went to wilco and got packets of sunflower seeds which went down well.
Last year and this we're going to get a bouncy castle, tried doing games last year but they just wanted to bounce so won't bother this year.:T
Good luck
Thats a great idea filling a reusable cup up with sweets, its something they can keep. I'm going to use this idea thanks.0 -
hi there, hope this is in the right place, im after some ideas for my sons 6th birthday party, we hope to have it at home in the garden weather permitting.(well it will be in august, but you never can tell with the weather!)
He will have about 8 guests all around the age of 6.
He loves animals and wants to go to chester zoo for his birthday so to extend this idea we thought of a jungle theme party too, but now im stuck, all I can think of is making animal masks!!! (and can not find animal masks free to download)
Anyone got any ideas on games/crafts/food/party bags/decorating with an animal theme?
Anything creative and moneysaving would be appreciated!!!;)
Thank you!0 -

A few weeks ago I went into scope and they did goodie bags for £1. I got one each for my girls and they contained bracelet, necklace, hairslides, hair extensions. I was really really impressed plus it helped out a good cause at the same time. Even if you bought a few and split them up between other bags well worth the money (and it was all new stuff not second hand)0
