  • hi all.
I'm hoping to get some food or recipe ideas for my daughters birthday party. We are doing a beach themed party in a local hall I've hired. I'm on a real budget this year (when am i not!!!) so I'm looking for cheap and chearfull ideas.

So far i have thought of fruit kebabs, cheese and pineapple on sticks - stuck into a grapefruit (old school!), maybe mini pizzas - if i can find or make them cheaply. I don't think i want to go to the bother of making sarnies as they never ever get eaten.

The reason i started thinking about all this is because my friend mentioned she was getting a caterer to do hers..... which i couldn't believe!!!!! I just wonder how much shes gonna be spending what with doing party bags too!

    anyway, hope someone can help.
    cheers

hello there - i'm also requesting ideas!
I have a daughter who'll be 6 and a son who'll be 3. I've got a venue booked, think I might get a magician but also a bouncy castle for the little ones....however I feel that the big ones might just monopolise it - should I book 2? I think the smaller ones won't really follow the magician bit so wanted to have something special for them but can't think what other than a bouncy castle.
  • hi katiecoodle
u could book 2, but that will be lots of £££.

what immediatly sprang to mind was face painting for the little ones. obviously it will be expensive if u hire someone, but i did it for my daughters 4th birthday by borrowing the supplies from her pre school and doing it myself - which takes time and a bit of artistic licence!
or maybe while the big ones are bouncing you could do some dancing games with the little ones.
while my little one was 3 she got a ball pit and really LOVED it! obviously you can only get 1 or 2 three year old in at a time!! so maybe not the best idea.

best of luck, will post again if i think of anything.

hmmm the thing is that so far (I know I'm going to be ridiculed for this) the guest list is for c. 40 - 45 kids! The trouble is that with cousins alone there are 15 kids and my 2 have ALWAYS been invited to their parties and they're all very close to each other, I can't imagine a party without them. and you know that if you don't invite one set of cousins, then you can't invite any cousins...and I'm not prepared to do that. PLUS the 6yr old is at school and seems to be incredibly popular - there are 20 kids in her class that she really does play well with, that she goes to tea at their houses etc, and they all seem to have younger siblings who play with my younger one too - this is why the numbers are just ridiculous - I'm mostly inviting 'pairs' of kids.
Last year was hectic, but we did a similar amount of kids....
Its only once a year, and its all over in one fell swoop. i think the littler ones are actually too small for face painting, the older ones would love it - we did it last year. ball pit is a good idea, thx.

we had 51 to my daughters for the same reason, i boght blue and pink bags off a site on ebay, and put a packet of crisps, a kit ka with home made hsm wrapper, a couple of flying saucers, a lolly, i made bookmarks from a site on here and laminated, and then a novelty or 2, ( i reuse the novelties from parties dring the year), and I made 60 for not a lot of pennies but the kids were excited.
the roller disco was #60 and that was with a drink balloon, and face painting and she really really enjoyed. so good luck.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Am looking to make party bags up for 45 kids

Have got a pack of 48 musical instruments form the range-£3.79
Have noticed Argos do tubs of playdoh + cutters in packs of 20, 2 packs for £15.

Love the idea of certificates and laminating bookmarks.
I have a pile of free stickers from when tesco did their healthy bags a few years ago.
    Lollypops.
may find some blowers and balloons.

Any other party bag ideas pls?
Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Hi, My DS will be 6 in October and wants to have a Ben 10 party. We will be having it in the houise but any ideas for games, cheap invites party bags etc.

    TIA
  • Party Bag ideas:

Bag of 30 mini Haribo Bags - approx £2.50 at Morrisons/Tesco

£1 Shops - Often have packs of nice pencils (I got 17 glittery pencils with rubbers on top for £1) - open and split between party bags

Tempoary Tattoos - I bought 30 of these from ebay for approx £3

Wilkos - Currently have an offer on stationary bits and bobs - 4 items for £1, I bought Novely Rubber Duck erasers (in packs of 2) - so 8 items in total for £1, they had other nice things too.

Home Bargains - I went into Home Bargains at the weekend and they had lots of ex Woolworths Party stock (plates, cups, naplins, balloons, blowers, party bag fillers etc etc)

Nesquick Straws - Got this idea from this board, last week I got 2 packs of 10 for £2 from Tesco, each straw is individually wrapped, so will split between party bags

    Zippy x
