We've tried all sorts for our twin sons.
2nd - soft play in sports centre which was set up for mother and toddler sessions we attended.
4th - a mad 'Dinosaur Stomp' party (almost 40 children) in the village hall. Lots of dino-themed activities and toys around for them to play with plus dinosaur-themed food, story time and me in a dinosaur costume (cue hysterical little girl and lots of boys trying to pull my tail off!). Very easy to theme the party bags etc.
5th - tea party for neighbours' children and a family party for the aunts etc.
7th - sports centre with one Star Wars and one Doctor Who cake. Best bit was getting some light-up keyrings for 29p each in clearance at Tesco which looked like Light Sabers for the party bags!
9th - Kids weekend morning cinema (very cheap) followed by Pizza Express (with Clubcard vouchers) for a select few.

I've always tried to do a themed cake where applicable, which takes days and looks very HM but makes me feel good! (DH helped on the design of the Millennium Falcon and painted detail on!)

This year (10) we're doing a science party which could end up as 25-30 boys. We've got an entertainer booked which should take over an hour and I'm trying to think of team challenges with a vaguely science theme before we go outside in the dark and (adults) let sky lanterns off for a finale while we eat hot dogs.

Party bags will have a personalised ruler in (cos DH can make these) and probably an individual cupcake or cookie this year but I'd appreciate any other ideas for other science themed or 9/10-y-o boy stuff to go in, without spending a fortune! Team games too if you have any tried-and-tested ideas or activities. (I've ruled out the marshmallow/spaghetti towers after doing these at home once!)

Hi - My ds will be 7 at the end of the month and has requested a party in a local traditional sweet shop. I made the mistake of suggesting that she design her own invitations. I am now looking for free site that will let me print out invitations covered in sweets with a penguin on - in honour of Club Penguin! Any ideas?

    Thanks

This sounds easy enough to design. There's a border pattern on the standard Microsoft office options and you could add a penguin as clipart.

Thanks for that. I haven't got normal office but something called OpenOffice. I think my dad has got office though so I'll pop down later and check.
  • Hello all
Although i look a newbie, i forgot my password from before and have logged on under a different name. Hope i have put it in the right place, if not sorry.

My dd no 1 will turn 7 soon so am looking at parties and costs, etc. Not wanting to spend loads however, do it MS style - however what is the average cost for a child's birthday party is for you MSE' ers. Having read the children's parties merged am surprised :eek:at some of the prices quoted there.

    Hi
I just wanted to share with you what we did for DS's 8th b'day party. Previously, we've done all the play area/bowling/swimming/etc parties, and tbh, DS wasn't bothered about anything like that this year, so we threw him a Wii party.
He had just his 3 best friends round for the afternoon (most Wii games only accommodate 4 players), and DH organised them playing on the Wii. And I mean 'organised'. He decied what games they played, and for how long... they were all short, fast, hyper games (like Wii sports, Ravin Rabbids, Mario Kart, Wii party... all the fun stuff) and he awarded a medal for the winner of each game. (we bought a pack of plastic medals from Toys R Us - 50 medals for about £5)... By the time they went home, the kids were weighted down by all the medals they'd won, and one lad cried when his mum came for him cos he didn't want to leave. They had a party tea and cheap party bag to go home with, and I had reports that the medals were warn for days afterwards!!!!!!!
DS said it was his best party ever and that his dad was 'the best'!!!! And best of all, it didn't cost anywhere near what his previous parties had cost.

Thanks so much for this, i started a new thread and then found this one!

Im having DD's party at the softplay, and I will make her cake. The softplay cater for everything, Its the party bags I need help with. I dont want the crap that you get from the supermarket........ this just goes home and goes in the bin. I have paper lunch bags I was going to embellish, and was thinking of a Rubber Duck for each person or a suitable book? Im also going to put in some chocolates in a gift box. What do you think? she will be 3 and most of the children going will be the same age apart from a few cousins that are a lot older.

I really wouldn't bother with party bags for 3 year olds, how about a nice bright balloon (inflated) to take home?

  • A treasure hunt is always a fun game for kids to play. It is exciting to find clues and work to find the treasure and end! We have developed two versions of a great treasure hunt game free children. A backyard treasure hunt and a picnic in the park Treasure Hunt. Perfect for your birthday party or backyard of a party in the park. All you have to do is to print tracks, hide all but the first in the appropriate places. The answer is included. Remember to raise taxes on the premises last treasure! Both games are good for preschoolers and early elementary age children. Have fun on your treasure hunt!
