Childrens Birthday Party - questions & ideas (merged)

When I had littlies and parties where there were even younger cousins, my hband used to dress up in mad bright coloured clothes and be a conjurer-simple things like a toy rabbit out of his pocket, lots of noisy sound effects and chanting for them to join in with. The older ones got turns as the helping assistant in a special cloak.(left over from Halloween) We also had a session of singing nursery rhymes, a playdough table and handprinting. Pass the parcel, Simon Says, hunt the thimble(the toddlers liked being in on the secret)
Simple stuff seemed ok.0 -
I forgot about hide the thimble, I will try that. and pass the parcel, I have been told if you have a lot of children then to have 3 presents going around to stop anyone getting bored.0

I am struggling to come up with a party idea for my daughter at the end of Jan.
I really dont want to do it at home if I can, as I have always done this before and she has not got lots of friends her age in anycase.
What can us and the rest of the family do to celebrate?
BTW in true mse style, I dont have much money to spend either!
Cheers everyone

Our local sports centre has a soft play room which isn't very much to hire if she has a couple of friends and a cake it would be quite sweet.Barclaycard 3800

Personally I wouldn't take her to any wacky warehouse type place for a proper party. I used to run a wacky warehouse and we found time after time that 2 yr olds were very overwhelmed by the whole organised party thing and were often frightened by the bigger kids running around.Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

Do you attend a Mother and Toddler Group or anything like that? Our local one hires out their equipment for parties for a donation (they suggest £10). It is then a matter of booking the Hall where the Group meets and just getting the stuff out of the cupboard, and obviously sorting out the food. I did this for my little ones second and third birthday parties and it worked really well, as quite a lot of the children attended Toddlers and so were happy with the environment.0

That sounds like a good idea if it's just for toddlers... think that's the trouble with wacky warehouses... anyone up to 12 can get in and it gets a bit much for the younger ones.Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

Thanks everyone, No I dont belong to a Toddler group, as I have an older child and most friends have children anyway.
Im not into Wacky warehouse or anything as it will be mainly friend and family attending...I just wanted something I dont have to do at home to save the stress on myself (I have a mental illness so stress = ill)

Why not just all (your family) go for a meal somewhere where there is a play area for the kids to play, tbh at 2 years old they wont be interested in the whole big party thing, i did a party for ds's 2nd birthday but it was mainly fr family and 2 of my best mates, so there were a few kids there.:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0
