Cheap Ryanair Flights Discussion Area

Hello!
What a rip-off! I am shocked really
I found a cheap flight at the end of July, and the total including taxes etc for two people from London Stanstead to Shannon (Ireland) was £19.96.
Fantastic I thought!!!
Until I realised, it will cost £24.00 per bag to check in  So one bag each would cost £48.00.
So the total would be £67.96, thats without the debit card charge!!
Have I done something wrong? Are they really doing this?
Talk about publicity stunts.... these are not cheap flights
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

but they are cheap flights!
ryanair is a low cost carrier. If you want to get on a plane, checking in online, and booking your ticket online, with only your bag that you carry on, it is £19.96.
if you want to check in a bag, you have to check in at the desk. this costs money..
no rip off, it clearly states all the charges as you are booking...
if you want check in at the airport, with bags, and not pay any fees.. i know aer lingus will be willing to take you to shannon, from London Heathrow, for only £136 per person!
hmm. .makes ryanair look reasonable doesn't it!0 -
Yeah I see it that way as well!! As I just checked the AerLingus price.
I suppose those travelling with no bags get a fantastic deal!
It's a shame though, because before they used to offer these cheap flights with no baggage fees, then it moved to £8 per bag, and now £24 per bag.
I suppose looking at the overall price compared to others they are still cheap.
It was just the £24.00 baggage fee per bag that got me a bit annoyed with them.0 -
If you take just hand luggage and check in on line then it would be £19.96.
Even at £67.96 it is still a low price !!!
There are no other direct Stanstead Shannon, LHR or Gatwick also no direct flights.
If you are unhappy then try

Just booked Stansted-Poitiers and got 0p fares. With taxes, charges etc £12.00, which is utterly brilliant as far as I'm concerned. Will stay with my daughter who has just moved to Poitiers, so I am well pleased.
Thanks MSE for highlighting the flights.
Well I just booked supposedly free flights, Stansted-Alicante, and the total cost for two was £92-76. Still cheaper than Easyjet, but Ryanair's online booking form has more holes than a colander.
I am also utterly confused about baggage. They seem to be forcing you to choose "1 baggage + Airport check-in" when I actually want to book a suitcase each online. The FAQ's imply you cant book suitcases in online, you can only book online if you have hand luggage only ... ??? So apparently the £8 per case per person per flight ended up as £24 per person because (it seems) you have to add to that £4 per person per flight for airport check in, cos they dont allow you to book the cases in online! Have I got that right, after being timed out twice while I was thinking about it, or was I finally diddled?
Not to mention what others have said ... how can a debit card charge be made per person per flight? The debit card is charged to my bank once only, in one payment. I can only think, there's Irish for you!0 -
be carefull too, as ryanair have a pathetic 15Kg weight limit on the checked in bag. That is one checked in bag per person, unless you have paid to have an extra checked in bag, but even then, the total weight limit must not exceed 15Kgs, no matter how many bags you have. Also, even though me and my girlfriend only had one case between us, this case could still not be more than 15Kgs... which is where we went wrong.
The worst of it is that they will charge you £12.00 per kilo of excess baggage checked in (15 euros coming to the uk) . To me this is scandalous. A little research over the net showed me they actually made over £90 Billion in excesss baggage charges while it was £5.50 per kilo, 12 months ago, yet they still managed to increase the charge to over double, the mind boggles!
Between the two of us, and our 15 Kg per case limit, plus the 10Kg per handluggage limit, we could have carried on 50Kgs. Our total combined weight was no more than 35 Kgs, yet they were demanding £180 from us, crazy.
take note though, you do have a 10Kg limit on hand luggage, this may or may be weighed, i know they did not weigh mine. it seems bizarre that you have a limit of 15 Kgs for your suitcase, and 10 Kgs for your hand luggage.
We didnt read the small print carefully enough, and almost faced a £180 charge for excess luggage, it was a major headache but we got there in the end with the help of a second bag to transfer items into. coming back to the uk we did get stung for 30Euros for being a whopping 2 Kgs over.

I've just booked two '1p' flights, to Dublin and back for the same day. I really should have come to the message boards first, I know, but silly me I went ahead and booked it. Right up until the very last page of payment processing, after putting in all my card details, Ryanair confirming the total charge as '£0.04', I then get a confirmation page that tells me the final price is £12.84. Which isn't bad for flights to Ireland and back for the day, no, but I'd preferred a warning of such charges BEFORE the payment was processed. Why do they not have a mention of this? This has been brought up before (as I've since read) and they're still getting away with it.
I haven't used them in the past, I don't suppose I will be in the future.0 -

I am interested to note that while the newsletter item about "Bargain beer and cider..." carries the usual health warning about remembering to drink responsibly, there's nothing under the Ryanair item to remind us of the consequences of flying too much. Duty on aviation fuel, anyone?
There is! Under the section "Want other cheap flights?" is the following -
"And if you do nab a cheap flight, why not help the environment by Carbon Offsetting."

I'm getting really sick and tired seeing the title Ryanair rip off:santa2:0
