The online check-in fee would be imposed at time of booking - just like the check-in at airport fee is done currently

What I suspect will happen is that there will be permanent "promotional fares" to allow Ryanair to advertise headline prices without the check-in fee

So, therefore, after 1st May if you book your flight more than 2 weeks in advance your £2 return flight will now (presumably) cost
    £2 for flights
    £10 credit card fee
    £10 online check-in fee
£10 credit card fee for checking in online

I can't beleive this is right, but I can't seem to find any info that says it isn't. The only way to avoid the 2nd credit card fee will be to book your flight less than 2 weeks in advance or to get an electron card!

As Alan says the breakdown would be £2 for flights, £10 for online check-in, plus a card fee if you choose not to get an electron card from your bank or an Entropay "virtual" card online.

Before I had an Electron card, I booked a flight and paid the card fee, I then added priority boarding and was only charged for that, not another card fee on top.

I got caught off guard once. What initially was meant to be a £2 return flight to Stockholm turned out to be a £12 flight because of the online check-in fees due to the use of credit cards.

Best and only way to get round this, if you want to check-in online without incurring the £5 charge each leg of the journey, is to use a VISA electron card.

That's checking-in online sorted out without an extra penny spent. However, when I travelled I only took onboard hand luggage(made sure it weighed the max. 10kg). I don't have a solution if one has to check-in hold baggage, which means having to check-in at the front desk and inevitably paying the check-in desk charge.

The reason you paid £12 was because you used a card that wasn't an Electron card, nothing to do with online check in, which at the moment is free. For bookings made from May 1st, there will be an online check in fee of £5 each way, on non promotional flights, whatever they are.

So you would pay, £2 flights, £10 check in fee, still not a bad price to Stockholm. Probably explained better HERE.

Does anyone have some idea when the next 1p flights will be on sale?

    Many thanks!

Yes, but........you can only check in online up to 2 weeks before your flight. So, for example, if I book flights in May to go to XXX in September I would have to revisit their website two weeks before my flight to check in online. Here they will charge me my £5 online check in fee, and presumably another £5 credit card fee.

(I get the discussion about electron, this is not the issue).

Surely you'd pay the online check in fee up front when you make the initial booking (as you do now with airport check in fees) even if the actual check in won't be till months in advance, and therefore only pay the card fees once. Personally I'd think the situation your're describing would be a step too far - charging the card fees twice on advanced bookings.

    mcdelarich,

I booked my 2p return flight to Billund(Denmark) on the 13th of Feb, N.B it was a Friday, lucky me!!!!

I think Ryanair are pretty random. I thought I spotted a pattern a few weeks ago but the trend failed to carry on. I am resorting to checking the website every morning.

Check this out again! European flights as cheap as £3.40 ONE-WAY from various UK airports. To keep cost down, be sure to bring merely a piece of hand luggage, check-in online and pay by VISA ELECTION if possible.

Bookings must be made between the 10th and the 13th of April 09, I guess by midnight on the final day. Take note of the travel and blackout period under the conditions. Start booking via the link below.

How do you get these flights so cheap??

I want to go from Newcastle - Dublin 31 July 09, return 2 Aug 09 (2 Adults, 2 Kids), and it's coming up with flights under a tenner, but the fees are about £180!!
