Karma cat - my new kitchen is being fitted in July. Not looking forward to finding homes for everything when the old one is taken out though. Have already got a taker lined up for any of the old units that are useable though ;)
Hi silvasava, I was wondering about that. There's a total of 5 wall cabinets that could definitely be re-used, certainly in a garage.

Where do I get it to sign for a re-education program for my teenagers?

:) Some things, Grasshopper, are beyond our powers. Two of my young women colleagues have been comparing notes today about the techniques for housetraining their twenty-something partners before the young men will be allowed to waltz them to the altar.

One 22 y.o. man in this city has managed to remember to put the bin out the night before collection day with no prompting or fuss whatsoever (!) There is always hope.

My Grandad and the other old boy next door had sheds which backed onto each other. After several months of not-gardening, the other bloke went to put his wellies on (stored in the shed) and found one of them half full with broad beans.

A thieving mouseketeer had been taking them from Grandad's shed, carrying them through to the other guy's shed and dropping them into his welly! You can kind of understand a mouse taking edibles but random bits of hardware, not so much. No wonder the shed's owner thought he was losing the plot.

Yestereve I was working on a stash of button jars and went through them removing things which I think I can re-use or which have a particularly strong emotional tie. This is the maternal button stash, whose core holding were Grandma's and which I played with as a kid.

I fetched out the five chunky red plastic ladybird buttons which came off my beloved Ladybird brand red dressing gown which I had as a young girl. I have sewed them onto a small strip of card, in a row facing the same way, and have the card clipped to my desk.

They're making me smile whenever I see them so definately Sparking Joy........... :rotfl:

I'm going to go through the remainder of the saved buttons and really question whether they're joyous and/ or useful and will release those which fail the test.

:D I may have achieved a heightened level of awareness just the now. It felt like an emotional breakthrough.

Yestereve, I went through about a dozen coffee jars of buttons and removed any (usually sewn on strips of card) which caught my eye. Ended up with a pile on my desk equivalent to 2 Douwe Egbert's jarfuls.

Today's plan was to go through them and sort them neatly and add them into my sewing supplies for Justin. And this is what I started to do about an hour ago.

Now, bearing in mind that these were the creme de la creme of the stash (from my pov) and that I do crafting, it wasn't unreasonable to keep these. But, on reflection, I decided that I am releasing them for others to enjoy and the two empty jars are now refilled. I probably would not use them, and it isn't a huge burden if I find myself needing a set of buttons at some unspecified point in the future and have to go to a chazzer and buy some.

I'm keeping the ladybirds, they make me smile and bring back happy memories, but the rest are being released, one at a time into the chazzer. One has gone this afternoon, another will go later this week. I don't want to swamp the place with stuff all the same.

    :j GQ 1 vs Justin 0. Winning!

I got lost in a rabbit hole of watching people make resin paperweights/shapes using old bits and bobs they wanted to keep and popping in a silicon case and filling with resin. They looked amazing and a good way of keeping a few smallish bits together.

 Blimey, sounds somewhat interesting but the eco version of me is wincing, can you imagine how long these things will last and what the heck future generation will do with them?!

I very seldom enter new shops, apart from places selling food so am not exposed to much consumerism. However, I am a regular visitor to a couple of charity shops and darken their doors more than once a week.

    ........... I could go on but I'm sure you'd rather I didn't!:p

Have bought only one 'thing' into my household this month, which is a brand-new 100% linen tea towel. Have been after one of this fabric for some months, so am pleased. It is a souvenir teatowel from overseas, which suggests that it was probably a gift which wasn't wanted by the recipient.:rotfl:

Karma cat - try posting your cupboards on Freecycle. They're often wanted for garages, sheds, utility rooms or if they're in good condition to replace other kitchen cupboards....... and someone comes to pick them up!
GQ - I used to love playing with the button box too when I was a kid. I ended up with both grandmother's stocks, my mum's and mine. I've kept some too and the rest went to the hospice craft shop but you've reminded me of happy innocent times ;)

Re buttons: our primary school uses them to make christmas cards to sell for fundraising; they look fab!

Hiya! To be honest, I might keep four of them for *my* little brick shed, the walls are single skin brick, and too flimsy to hold anything serious. Plus the mortar ... no, I won't talk about the sandy mortar

Now I wonder where my ladybird buttons are and if they are still in my Mum's sewing box! I think only 4 survived being on my dressing gown though! :o Must check tonight if I'm at Dad's. :p
