KonMari 2018 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

I gathered all the toiletries from bedroom and bathroom , sorted out what I use and what was just being stored here :rotfl:
Then had an idea, I rang the hospital where I was going visiting a friend and asked if they needed any new and part used stuff.
In the past I have taken them to the womens refuge or geriatric unit, but basically any hospital ward can potentially have older people admitted who have no one at home to bring them toiletries so they were really happy to accept them.
Worth thinking about if you are going hospital visiting0 -
Sounds perfect
I've lit my stove tonight - I'm burning the last bits of my nephew's bed which has been replaced
We burn furniture on our log burner too......... over the years have fed into it 2 kitchens 20 window frames 2 sheds, beyond help broken wooden toys, various cupboards and shelf units that were no longer usable or were being thrown out at work and many pallets!
Have been out early this morning post Storm Gareth and kondoed some plastic off the beach tooBe the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

I've burned floorboards and joists as well as pallet wood. All the logs since I've been here (apart from the first year) have come from trees I've taken down in the garden. Initially conifers, a bit of birch, now fruit trees, ash and willow (which may take a while to dry out).
I've got some plywood offcuts in the garage... not sure about burning those due to the solvents. Any thoughts? I do burn the odd bit of painted wood, but only as kindling. (I'm currently eyeing up my neighbours' fence panels as it looks as if they'll lose a couple, and they'd do me for kindling for a year or too).
Masses of ivy removed from the hedge - I'm working on the road side which means frequent pauses for passing traffic (which doesn't slow down much or pull over very far). Hard work, and the hedge is a real mess, with very little growth low down or in the middle, just where I've been letting it grow up, as it's clearly been clogged with ivy for years. Birds are cross, but I need to do it before they start nesting. If I can clear some of the roots there are spaces where I can plant new small plants to grow up through the middle. And there are a few younger plants that I need to decapitate to encourage them to grow outwards more.0 -
Two elderly mobile phones and chargers gone to a Freecycler. Small steps but still ''outs'
Regarding burning suspect wood that may have been treated or varnished. DH always uses small amounts mixed in with plain stuff so no accumulation of any potential nasties.
Need to attack the paper mountain by clearing out some files and getting rid of redundant items. Rather than shred I stuff toilet rolls with rolled up papers and use them as firelighters - can be quite satisfying
ETA: Greenbee - can you get hold of a couple of traffic cones to put out when you need to work on your roadside? There are some cottages near me with no pavement and they use them to work on their hedges.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
I burn plywood, treated wood etc, just only in very small amounts and mixed in with other stuff. While I have got lots of logs I find I need a mix of wood to keep my wood burner running hot. It's a very small one, and I am wary of burning it at low temperatures (still hot, obviously!) because I think that creates more tar and muck, I like to keep it above 300 degrees on my thermometer.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0

I found evidence of mouse activity in the garage today so we cleared it out and the handyman went to the tip. So all the bits of ply went with him and solved the problem!
Silvasava - I have traffic cones. I'm just lazy
Shattered after clearing the garage but need to go back and out and plant 4 shrubs.0 -

Aw GQ - must be a Mrs Mouse! So cute.
Karma cat - my new kitchen is being fitted in July. Not looking forward to finding homes for everything when the old one is taken out though. Have already got a taker lined up for any of the old units that are useable thoughSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0
