KonMari 2018 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

KC - I drop off at my local CS warehouse. Stuff they have taken before they have suddenly started rejecting, with no update on the website. I told them I wasn't going to hang around while they picked it over, and if they don't want everything they don't get any of it - I chose them because they take the stuff, not because they are my preferred charity (plus I don't seem to have had a gift aid update from them for some time despite dropping a LOT of stuff of over the last few months). Apparently they only want new, sealed stuff for a lot of things. Which clearly I'd just return... I do won't whether Kondomania means that charity shops are overwhelmed with stuff and people aren't buying so much...0

Perhaps it might be an idea if some people tapered their donations rather than offloading a carload at a time? I had a brief natter yesterday with the senior volunteer at my regular CS and she said they'd had a relatively quiet day, donations wise, which was actually a good thing as it enabled them to process items already received. Otherwise, they were in grave danger of having their pretty small stockroom stacked head-height in bags.
The ideal thing from their POV is something which can just have a price sticker added and go right out on the shelf. Otherwise, there's sorting, judging, steaming, hanging and pricing for clothing.
I'm sure we all do it already but, if you have items which aren't of saleable quality, and have pre-checked with your CS that they can take rags in, please segregate the ragables into a labelled bag to speed the backroom sorting process.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Not much kondoing going on at the moment; I am still working my way through the stashes of travel sized shampoos and conditioners from my former job, the sanitary towels I 'inherited' when Mum and Aunt cleared out their stashes, the alcohol Mum and Dad passed on to me. Trying to eat down the contents of the freezer and the pantry, and cleaning the pantry one shelf at a time. Most recent venture: checking all the small drink packets for bbd's and checking with dds which ones they will actually drink. The ones they don't want are currently on the kitchen table for husband to drink (he promised he would).
I am working in the garden almost daily, sometimes just 15 minutes. Quite a few seeds have been sown and are in windowsills and a cupboard-type greenhouse I have in the garden.
The severance pay still hasn't been touched, which is good. We have received a tax refund of €4,000which is mostly in the 'renovation' savings account, with a small bit added to the 'vacation 2019' account.
I am struggling with meal plans / cooking, mainly due to dds' picky eating, which is partially my own fault. I am working on being stricter with what and how they eat (kondoing bad behaviour).Are you wombling, too, in '22? € 58,96 = £ 52.09Wombling in Restrictive Times (2021) € 2.138,82 = £ 1,813.15Wombabeluba 2020! € 453,22 = £ 403.842019's wi-wa-wombles € 2.244,20 = £ 1,909.46Wombling to wealth 2018 € 972,97 = £ 879.54Still a womble 2017 #25 € 7.116,68 = £ 6,309.50Wombling Free 2016 #2 € 3.484,31 = £ 3,104.590 -
I take mine to the warehouse because it’s where they accept a car boot at a time (and big stuff - this is from clearing the garage). I don’t have anything within walking distance, and don’t want to make special journeys. They also sort stuff there to sent it to the shop it will sell best in.
I’ve been told that if I go to the big tip rather than my local one, most of what i’ve got will be sold rather than scrapped. I’m also going to check with the local men’s shed as they may take DIY stuff.
Where I lived previously none of this would have been an issue as most of this would have gone via freegle. Maybe I need to outsource disposal to someone who lives where I used to?0 -
Karma - we have lots of free local groups on Facebook so could be worth joining one of those, I tend to find stuff goes within the hour (mainly as I say must be collected today). it's ornaments in particular, for some reason.
If several people on here are having the same sorts of problems, it's probably pretty well a national issue. Not one that newspapers would write about, of course :rotfl:After reading "Woman on the edge of time", by Marge Piercy, where their form of national service is about sending out groups to recycle decaying buildings, I have fantasies about all the awful glassware in charity shops being melted down to provide spun glass insulation, or double glazing, or greenhouses2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I've just been through all the stuff in the car boot.
I'm going to contact the mens' shed re. DIY stuff. I've got a friend who is starting to do B&B who I will offer some stuff to. Anything wooden she doesn't take will be broken up for firewood.
Plant pots will have plants added and be given as giftsI have some houseplants that need dividing and more black plastic flowerpots than I care to think about, so potting some things up to go in nice glazed pots shouldn't be a problem.

Greenbee, I started digging out forget-me-not plants from my garden (they spread like weeds!), putting them in plastic pots, and then in decorative pots I had lying about. Some recycled plastic wrap and recycled ribbon makes the pots nice gifts.Are you wombling, too, in '22? € 58,96 = £ 52.09Wombling in Restrictive Times (2021) € 2.138,82 = £ 1,813.15Wombabeluba 2020! € 453,22 = £ 403.842019's wi-wa-wombles € 2.244,20 = £ 1,909.46Wombling to wealth 2018 € 972,97 = £ 879.54Still a womble 2017 #25 € 7.116,68 = £ 6,309.50Wombling Free 2016 #2 € 3.484,31 = £ 3,104.590

Great idea Siebrie. Mostly the plants in the garden get moved around to fill gaps where I've taken weeds out
At least that way I hope not to need to buy any more!
Must wrap my SIL's birthday present and get rid of the packaging as soon as the recycling has been collected. I live in hope that I'll be able to clear the kitchen table by the time the family come round on Sunday!0 -
Grrrr Forget me nots...... my neighbour planted these so of course they get blown into my garden. Flipping pain in the wotsit as they get in amongst the block paving. Won't be sorry to see the back of those neighbours when we move (and I expect they'll be cheering when they find out we're going).
Signed the estate agency agreement and put it through the agents door overnight. Cheeky sods have got 'Sole selling rights' written into their standard contract. I crossed it through and changed to Sole Agency which is what they quoted on their initial valuation letter. I used to work, briefly, for an estate agents, so they're not catching me with that one. If they're not happy with this, I'll go elsewhere, but they do have the best photographer in the area so I'd rather use them.Make £2025 in 2025
