I had to make myself stop inkle weaving, loved it. Finished about 30 inches of 1 inch strap, I think there is about 20 inches of warp left. Ha ha good job it is in colours that will match most things. I will plod on with this cotton, have 3 large cones and it will make lots of straps but I will make wider next time and soon will warp so it looks fancier. By then I will be ready to inkle weave complicated lengths in the beautiful fine silky yarns that I have on cones. A new hobby and quickly learnt

Such interesting posts about intolerances. It is terrible that the affect food has on the body, is so little understood by the medical population.

Newcastle medical school did a study (which is what the blood sugar diet is based on) which showed that the vast majority of diabetics, who stuck to a v low calorie, no sugar diet for 12weeks, became clinically free of diabetes. More and more studies are producing the same results. Yet so often, New diabetics are just offered pills...

:( It's shocking, isn't it? When you think that there is sound medical evidence that diabetes and even heart disease can be reversed by dietary changes, and that this has been known for decades, and we're still stuck with a pill-for-every-ill medicine.

:p I actually had to write a business letter with pen and paper this evening as my printer/scanner/ copier has suddenly decided to opt out of the printing part of its job description. How quaint, can't remember when I last did one of those. And have kondo'd one of the half-dozen envelopes from the stash which were being chucked out by a pal, unused, because the gum had lost it's stickiness - I have selloptaped it up. Waste not, want not.

Am experimenting with a re-org in my kitchen and may end up turfing a storage element out, which will give me about 4 extra inches of depth on the counter. Doesn't sound much but counters are very much at a premium and it is a major enhancement. I shall live with it a while before I decide to lose the cubbyhole thingummy which stood on the back of the countertop.

  • I've started sorting out some books to do the same, it's surprising how much some of my study books sell for! Will aim to finish tomorrow but already up to about £20 for 12 books! Wouldn't have known if I hadn't seen your posts so thank you xx

  • The garlic chicken sounds fab! I’ve got a chicken to roast this weekend so might try it :D

Having an interesting crossover between two of my current favourite books - the KonMari book and Simplicity Parenting by Kim John Payne. I’ve twigged that the reasons previous declutters haven’t fully worked is because I’ve always left parts undone. KM says we need to do the whole house but in the past I might have some say my wardrobe and kitchenware and bedding but there would still be junk in the spare room or under beds and eventually the place would end up a mess again.

The bit in Simplicity Parenting that got me thinking is in a chapter where he talks about simplifying the child’s environment. Most of the chapter deals with toys, clothes etc in the child’s room, but he also notes that it’s no good just to declutter the child’s stuff - he feels that there is a sort of homeostasis between the various parts of the house and if the child’s decluttered room is surrounded by a cluttered house, some will move in until the rooms are more even again. This perfectly sums up what I feel has happened with previous declutters and reinforces why it’s important to do the whole house.

My spare room (kondoed of the bed for the time being) is currently a KM staging area and I’ve been putting everything I’m not dealing with yet in there, in piles on the floor sorted by category. I think this is why the category approach is so useful as before I’d just do a drawer or cupboard or room and then the rebalancing effect would come into play because other areas were untouched. Whereas doing a category at a time means no area in the house is untouched (maybe because my stuff was ridiculously mixed together, I now realise :o ).

DH has given away his much loved fish tank as there isn’t a place for it in the new house. I’ve just gathered all his fish books (at his request) to go too.

Aged parent is saying I’m making her sort out her possessions too fast. I haven’t even asked her to sort them, never mind given a timescale. I know she’s lashing out because she’s sad about moving, but it still hurts. Not a great day.

((((((((((catshark88)))))))) take a deep breath, hun, you know you haven't pressurised her.

I've been slowly sifting through some of the clutter accumulating on the surfaces and have finally processed (by which I mean soaking off labels and removing gummy residue) from 5 jars which have been floating around the kitchen counters/ draining boards. These are now clean and will be kept in a cupboard for re-use and any inventory of jars over and above this will go straight into the recycling.

:o Is there anyone else who finds it really hard to part with jars? Particularly those with pretty printed lids/ embossed designs/ fancy shapes? I certainly do!

I attribute some of this to an early fascination with R0ses lime marmalade (I prefered the jars to the contents). I also have a fetish for containers of many descriptions, especially prettily printed tins, boxes and baskets. I am often in the absurd position of having more containers than things to contain....... :rotfl:

Have been preparing a few things to exit the home this weekend. I will be going to the Family Homestead, but only for 36 hours, so don't expect too much (or indeed any) decluttering activity. I might just concentrate on being a Human Being instead of a Human Doing.

:D Or my innate clutterhound nature might just get the better of me and I could get permission to sort something out. If there's funny news, I shall let you all know after the event.

Yes, me! And I do use them, as I make jams, jellies, pickles and marmalade, for us, and for presents. But sometimes I end up with far too many :o I did get rid of a couple of boxes full a few weeks ago though, to a freecycle lady who had asked for them to decorate for wedding table centre decoration thingies, so my collection is back within manageable limits :) She was also delighted to have the 2 shallow plastic crates that were containing them. These had been kicking about in the garage forever, so I was pleased to see the back of them too!

The bonne mamam jars of jam and DE coffee jars are my downfall as I hate to throw them away.

I have given myself a stern talking to and decided that an empty jar is just taking up space while if I fill it with tea bags, coffee sachets, pasta, rice etc then it is performing a function.

So excited as I will ( hopefully) be a first time gran in the summer. Trying not to overwhelm dd and sil with gifts but have offered a few ideas that they can choose from. Looked at tkmaximus and got some unisex baby stuff for £50 that should have been £145 so could not resist buying it but have promised I will sit on my hands and that shop was my first bout of enthusiasm and I will try not to do anything they do not know or approve. I do not want to take away their choices in any way and am determined to follow their wishes as much as possible.
