fen, have a read about proteins in milk. Many people are guessing at lactose intolerance when it is milk proteins that thay are not tolerating, different breeds produce different types of protein and just look at the use of continental breeds all over the place when it used to be jerseys and freisians. Personally, I discovered A2 milk and even the nearest village shop now stocks it. It has no A1 protein in it. It made an instant difference to my well being

I don`t remember people being uncomfortable with digestive problems in the old days but then much bread was made the old way ie left to rise overnight in the bakeries, not the mechanical process of making quick ripened dough in the supermarkets, bread also full of additives. When I make my bread, I use organic flour, water, salt and either yeast or sd or sometimes both together, then usually I prove all night in the fridge. Most supermarket bought sd contains less than 1 tsp of sd plus yeast and they don`t give it the long fermentation time that changes the wheat, they are still allowed to call it sourdough.

I make bread with old English wheat varieties and also with peasant flour ie pea and bean and old grains. The taste is out of this world. If I have visitors then I make normal bread but like all bread, it should be left to stand for hours before cutting and I prefer to make it the night before, in order to avoid the tummy ache that people can get from very fresh warm bread

That’s interesting Fen, I hadn’t thought of that. Although my travel related IBS is sudden bloating rather than nausea.

Ploppy I also refuse to take Alendronic Acid for osteoporosis . My latest DEXA scan showed a small but significant improvement in my scores. Vitamin K2 seems to be having some effect. Lumbar spine was -2.9 now -2.7 and hip was osteopenic but is now only -1.7

GP has referred me to hospital (to see if they can talk me into being good ). But I am still not taking bisphosphonates, they have a half life of 10 years!!!

I did take one dose, followed all the instructions, cos I’m good like that. First thing in the morning, plenty of water no other fluids, stay upright for half an hour afterwards. And it still gave me the most horrendous heartburn which still gives me grief occasionally and which I never had before. That was when I read the side effects leaflet carefully and saw that it can cause scleritis and uveitis. Well that was it for me, I’ve had numerous problems with my eyesight over the last few years and I will do nothing to jeopardise it. GP offered me an infusion but the eyesight problems seem to be a class effect with bisphosphonates so, no

Do you have any links to useful sites? I found Lara Pizzoni’s book really helpful
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Kittie, my worst reaction was to a trace amount of goat milk, so the AL1/2 in cow milk probably won't help.
These days, even the smell of dairy turns my stomach. OH has to sit at the other side of the room to eat his cheese ( I used

    Oops.

I used to love cheese and butter and milky drinks.
Now they smell utterly revolting. I've refused to go into some cafes because of the smell of the steamed milk.

I get the same revulsion now walking past the bread aisle. I used to love bread, but I can't stand the smell of that now!

Osteoporosis is a side effect of coeliac (not absorbing nutrients) I don't know how old you are ploppy but my sister already had oesteopaneana, I'm lucky it hadn't got to that stage.

If it was a long time since blood test ask to be retested b4 going glutenfree.
To anyone trying to cut out gluten, it's in many things ,not just bread and cereals.
It can be in chocolates, crisp, meringues, pop, soup, beans. Even packs of seeds etc can have traces.
I even have to tell the church not to give me the normal"bread" with the wine at communion, they do a special gfree one.

Yep, it’s everywhere. It’s shocking really. I buy gluten free bread as I need a slice of toast first thing in order get the day going...aside from that we just eat veg, fruit, some meat (maybe 3 times a week) and the odd bit of rice.

Luckily we’re not snackers so no biscuits or cakes needed (although I did try some gluten free Jaffa cakes last week and they were quite palatable) I’ve got a big pot of mixed dried fruit and several bags of mixed nuts in the larder, if we’d need something then that does the job.

I’ve never been a big eater, portion sizes weren’t huge, no snacking no sweet tooth but I’ve always been overweight and it was always blamed on my PCSO. Now the weight is falling off I can see it’s because my body hadn’t got a clue how to deal with gluten so it just turned it into something nasty and pushed it aside for later.

In MK news, 2 of the items I listed for sale from my wardrobe clear out, sold over night so will be posted off today. Hurrah!

  • notebooks! all too easy for me to buy yet another small notebook when I am out but today I found two more in a drawer. Took the written pages out of one and now have a thin notebook, the other one was full of stuff I don`t need, so binned

In the 70s/80s I couldn`t even afford notebooks, so used paper stapled together to make a notebook for my spending, when the mortgage rate went sky high and hubbie was suddenly on half salary with full time (and plus) work. So now I like notebooks but they are yet another item I can kondo

Kittie - I can always buy notebooks too. I have 3 work ones which need to be shredded. Also found lots with only a few pages use so will not have to buy any more for a while.
  • I am now in to week 3 of the big de-clutter. Not a lot happened last week due to me be exhausted due to the never ending virus that made an appearance on NYE. Feeling much brighter this week though.
Last night when I went to put 2 t shirts away in the drawer, I decided to take the drawer out and empty it.
Managed to get rid of some old belts, t shirts for the CS and some which are no use to anyone (why did I store them?). Plus a really old swimsuit which the lycra seems to have gone in.
So now my 2 nice swimsuits and all of my tshirts are now rolled and I can see what I have.
Also a few weeks ago I cleared my bookshelves. Kept the unread ones and the ones that I enjoyed and will read again.
Gave some away to my niece and my mom said that her and some friends would like the others to read. After that they will go to the CS so that someone else can enjoy them.
It`s going to be a long job but we will get there.
