you are going to be a fantastic grandma elona, congratulations
My 8 and 10 year old grandchildren are here now, just one night with their mum and honestly I am finding it so sad that they want to be on their tablets so much. Long gone are the days of their playing top trumps or with all the lovely toys that I keep for them. I managed to get down to two boxes of toys and books but will refine that again to one or less. No point keeping them, the lovely toys that they loved before tablets. Ok yes they are active as in sports but they will never be interested in the likes of crafting, it is too slow after youtube. Personally I hate it, all this technology that takes them away from the traditional bonding roles.
They are away after lunch and I will be preparing traditional games and toys for the cs. Sad0 -
Oh, Catshark. The wrath of parents never stings less, whatever the age of the child. ( I know all too well!!!128544;!!!128544;!!!128544;!!!128544;)
Perhaps the advantage of being an adult when parents are being unreasonable, is that as an adult you can walk away. Literally leave the room. Go for a walk. Go for a drive. What are they going to do? Ground you? Dock pocket money? Lock away favourite toys? Perhaps that's all that can be done: just that little bit of head-space, as actually dealing with them is far too difficult, traumatic. But at least we can take a precious breather.
I did that at Christmas when MiL was being a victim, and incredibly unsensitive following the death of my father. Luckily SiL was there with her new puppy - the puppy got a lot of walks.
Kittie, don't despair re tablets. My kids had gadgets, tho they're a bit too old to have had tablets, they had game boys and such. But now one has taught himself to play guitar and piano (using YouTube) and the other is into cosplay and makes all her costumes.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

Kittie - I know what you mean, today is dgsons 11th birthday I've bought him starwars toys from the bay of e . All of which I've listened to him talk about . He does play with his toys still, but at home his mum is strict about his time on the tablet, and what he can watch so when he comes here he can't wait to go on it!!!!!
I'm sat watching him play with his wookie helicopter now! And his lego. It's so fancy now, we used to just have bricks to make a house or car !
Unfortunately he's not into sports and I often wish he'd play outside more, like we used to do.
Elona congratulations lovely news x:jFocus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0 -

Kittie, I know what you mean about technology taking over. I have two teens at home and it's shocking how much time they spend on the computers/tablets. I am grateful for the time ds spends at boxing and dd loves music so she's often teaching herself new songs on the drums/keyboard. When the weather warms up I'm hoping to get them out more and to make use of our English Heritage membership gifted by the inlaws.GC 2023 June £72/500 NSDs 1/100

I still haven't taken the bags to the chazzer as my hubbie has been ill all week. I don't know whether to do it later or on Monday as it is raining today and I don't drive.
They are annoying me as they have been waiting patiently on my kitchen counter top all week.:D
I did order some clear plastic wallets as I wanted to sort out the filing. I'm sure I could make it more organised. I have A*azon Prime so they are being delivered today. I have some unwieldy box files that could be kondoed afterwards.0 -
Mini kondo this morning of my bathroom cupboard. Its a tall shallow one with 3 shelves so because of this I have some long slim containers to stop me knocking anything off the shelf and into the basin. I've just kondoed the following: Eye make up remover (use a different product as not much make up now) Foundation Ive had so long its separated in the bottle, tiny tub of face powder, the remains of travel bottles of toner, moisturiser and night cream - all with scutty bits left (why did I keep them?) 3 make up sponges (never use them) in various states of crispness. Spray deodorant that makes me cough, face shimmer that makes me look like something off Strictly, various old make up applicators and an argan candle tin. An unopened pot of Tiger Balm being relocated to the medicine cabinet downstairs. Shelves and containers all cleaned and remaining contents all tidied. Took me all of 10 mins!!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

GQ only you could the story of fanheaters sound fun. I have a dead one in the garage waiting for a year or so to be taken to the small electrical items at the dump. It seems to get forgotten about every dump trip.0

I stopped doing 'categories' a la KM a long time ago - doesn't suit me. I attack the clutter in 2 maybe 3 ways 1. I want to do it because its getting me down and I have the time to do it properly 2. As I go along....open a cupboard/drawer and see something that really is not sparking joy but cant understand why I had never seen it before and 3. Needs Must! Today is a Needs Must Day
I have chipped away at books since starting the the whole KM thing........all kinds of books. Both OH and I collect FEs in our chosen genre so its unlikely these will move out the door anytime soon however I have been tasked to clear a very large built in set of shelves on the landing in prep for redecoration of said area and stairs...about 50 ft of shelves:( Mainly reference books, cookery books, guide books a few hefty biographies, oversized children's books.....really dont need to keep these now, paperbacks all read,my favourite books from Eng Lit A level complete with my margin notes and some ancient books - my grandmother's Mrs Beeton for example. I will be ruthless. Our book collections are kept on equally stuffed shelves in the office/study............those shelves are regularly culled and yet breed....task for another day:DBe the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

I did the annual accounts filing a la categories today
French accounts, two separate years. English accounts, one year in two calendar years (no wonder I get confused) ...
2023: the year I get to buy a car0
