I dropped off the bags to the chazzer yesterday, I added another two books and a bed cover.
There was a £1 sale on in the shop and I didn't even stop to look around.:)Wednesday2000 wrote: »I did order some clear plastic wallets as I wanted to sort out the filing. I'm sure I could make it more organised. I have A*azon Prime so they are being delivered today. I have some unwieldy box files that could be kondoed afterwards.
Wow, the clear wallets makes it look so much neater and saved so much space.:T0 -
back from m-I-l's... it was hard graft but another 10 bin bags of clothes have left.
Surprisingly it was f-I-l's clothes that are the main culprit. Sad to see all the duplicates, the things with labels still attached and the "I don't know why I bought it" items.
Made me want to go home and torch all my stuff. I decided not to though and burnt the ends of two candles, Kondoed a long overdue craft task (16 years ahem) and cleaned the fridge out.
Unfortunately I appear to have Kondoed my hat somewhereLBM 11/06/2010: DFD 30/04/2013Total repaid: £10,490.310 -
My kids are tech mad too. I fight it, but it!!!8217;s a losing battle.
We!!!8217;ve started to eat together most evenings now. Takes a bit more organising, but we!!!8217;re really enjoying it."Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." William Morris0 -
Thanks Polly & Silva for the suggestions. I tried with rubber gloves without success, and also tried to get a rubber jar opener in but there wasn't enough room. We managed to free the fitting off to remove it in the first place with a ribbed rubber tree tie from the garden shed. I managed to put it in place and OH gave it a good lug which freed it just a touch so I could unscrew it. He put it back on but I think slightly cross threaded. We've tried with the tree tie but can't loosen it off again. I hope the plumber has small hands as it's a difficult space to work in behind the basin pedestal.Make £2025 in 2025

OH's cousin, who worked in primary schools, said that you can tell the families who eat together at a table with no TV from those who don't. OH has always had a thing about doing this and his cousin reckoned it was the single best thing we did for our kids. And we still do, even though the kids are grown - those who are here at meal times, sit down with us and we have no TV in the kitchen / dining room (though I confess to watching the ipad if i am alone, or at times when cooking).I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

We do try and make eating it together a nice thing, though I do have a tendency to incorporate table manner requests into my sentences... :rotfl:"Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." William Morris0 -
Carrie - hope it's not 16 years since you cleaned the fridge out lol!
Catshark - table manners are learnt at the table so it's not an unreasonable conversation in my view.
VJsmum - like you we nearly always eat at the table with no TV - never had one in our kitchen or dining invoice room. Idespair at how many youngsters seem unable to use a knife and fork correctly, but then I had a Scots grandmother who was a stickler but being able to convey your food from your plate to your mouth and chew with your mouth closed is a bit more than a social grace! I'll get off me soapbox now.
A few more bits out the house today. A pack of blue cloths and two pairs of tongs to the galley at the sailing club. 3 large tins of dauphinoise potatoes to DS1 - a bit more room in the cupboards.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -

Haha no def not! Actually I sewed the final badges onto my camp blanket. I've not been in Guiding since I was 18 so they were long overdue. I pulled the blanket out of the cupboard but there was no way I was going to get rid of it. It's now got pride of place on the spare bedLBM 11/06/2010: DFD 30/04/2013Total repaid: £10,490.310 -
Technology and young children Hmmm come and spend a day with me and see what damage it can do when not controlled  I work mainly with 4 and 5 year olds who I would say have addiction issues when it comes to tablets/technology.....most have speech and language problems and those that do speak do so in American accents. They have very poor social skills and no idea of how to communicate anything. As far as sitting at a table eating with a spoon never mind anything else, is a new experience for most. I have recently had a child who at the age of 5 had only ever eaten out of a polystyrene or cardboard takeaway box..............and these are not children coming from troubled families on the "radar". I was speaking to a speech therapist recently who says research is now being done and trends being noted that show a rise in referrals correlating with the almost universal ownership of the smart phone and that is adult ownership.........think there some other factors too IMO but it is both interesting and worrying. Not sure what we are setting up for the future.Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

Gosh Igamogam, that is v interesting and terrifying too.
Table manners are a tricky one. I am a stickler for them, but it is quite hard to answer the why do I need to, type questions beyond saying it is polite to not make other people see your chewed up food/ be poked by your elbows etc. I must admit to being reduced to the cos I say so defence more than I would like to!
My family seem to exist in a benign (usually) acceptance of what we see as each others crazy foibles. The kids would like to spend all day with tech or Harry Potter, my husband wants lots of tech, Lego and movies and I allow some of that, whilst dragging them all into theatres, art galleries and historic things as often as I can!
Sorry for the crazy punctuation, I have tried to edit out those weird numbers that keep appearing at the moment."Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." William Morris0
