All my unopened hotel/airline stuff is going to the local night shelter - I just need to sort it all into batches. It's a great option for any unwanted toiletries. Some places are also happy to take open items so it's worth checking with them if there is something that you have opened but know you won't use.

I do this with airline combs/ brushes/ toothbrushes/ shaving foams (Emirates business class are fab for picking up loads) and soaps. I tend to keep (and use) the razors, tissues, shampoo/ conditioner and shower gels. Body lotions its about 50/50 that I donate. (although I sell the Bvlgari freebies from Emirates!) The homeless shelters here like the hotel/ airline toiletries as they're almost single use :) Here they will take open shampoo/ conditioners :)

I have cleaned the large lidded box with shoe polishing items. The spare (new and saved) shoelaces are now in a takeaway container inside this box. One dried out dregs container thrown out.

The container where we kept the broken rice is now empty. It is a bit of a hassle to clean (lid attached), so we won't use it for food again. I will find something to store in it in my attic :)

How lovely that the freebie hotel/airline stuff is put to such good use!

I'm not kondoing anything except dust at the moment - quite a lot of it...

Woop Woop!! I am one happy bunny - I've found the curtains!! Underneath the winter duvet stored in the ottoman at the foot of our bed. I racked my brains as I couldnt remember taking them to the CS as they were so heavy! They will be perfick in the newly decorated room and I wont have to fork out for a new set (where is the skipping emoji?)

    That's great new silvasava.

I'm slowly filling another box for the CS - lots of kids bits going into it.
  • I'm another one who is using up all the creams and lotions at the moment too. I had so many of them it was ridiculous as I had been keeping some in the airing cupboard, some in my makeup/toiletries drawer and some in the medicine box. My feet haven't been this smooth in a while.:rotfl:

  • I have loads of hand cream, and goodness knows I need it as my hands look about 10 years older than my face! However I'm really bad at putting it on. Because it leaves your hands greasy, I cant read, knit or sew straight after applying it; I really seem to sit still and not have something in my hands. What am I doing wrong, when do you all apply it? I would love it to become a new habit.

:) Bedtime, basically, the rest of the time it's no sooner on than washed off again.

    Hi,

I've just popped in to say hi to you all. I've tried to have a go at the Kon Mari method before. I got really good at folding clothes so I could see what I had in draws. I also put items in one place (like scissors for example) instead of dotted around the house. I even got rid of some stuff that I didn't want/need or use...but not nearly enough to make my home a nicer place to be and easier to clean etc.. My money saving ways got in the way... I might need it...could use it for something. Quite recently I happened upon a podcast by some American guys called The Minimalists. As you can guess it's about living with less. I've manged to part with a lot in last few months. Books, clothing, kitchen items, jewelery, toiletries etc.. I have plans to free myself from much more. Already it's easier to cook and find things and I'm feeling more in control. I'm buying less and making more ethical choices.
Today I gave away one spare lot of Xmas baubles to work and another to my daughter - why did I need three sets!
I hope I can join you as I continue my journey. I've not even tackled the loft yet. :D
  • Welcome, I think we've all found that it's an ongoing process; and it builds, the more you get rid of the easier it gets.

Anyone else watching 'Consumed' on Netflix? It's my latest guilty pleasure ... partly with relief that my house isn't quite that bad, and partly because I recognise a lot of the reasons people are hanging on to things as ones I've used in the past. (It's a decluttering programme - people are asked to put everything except the absolute essentials in storage for two weeks, and then to throw out 75% of their stuff.). It uses some of the KM techniques, in that it makes people confront just how much they have.
