KonMari 2018 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

That was a great result with the boot sale GQ, plus as you say, the satisfaction of knowing the sold items are useful to their new owners.
I've just had a really nice chap with good feedback come and estimate for the small jobs still needing done here that I can't manage myself. So let's see what his quote's like and if it's acceptable, he can start next week. It's all small stuff except for raising the hanging rail shelf in the fitted wardrobe, which is currently set at the height for a midget. I'm not tall, but it's too low for my coats and dresses, and there's nowhere else to hang them.
Checking through the wardrobe to see if anything can go, I realised that a friend had some time ago given me a pair of smart brown boots she no longer wears, and my colour spectrum for clothes requires blue or black footwear. So the boots are off to the charity shop with the pressure cooker and a few other items.
I suspect I have slightly more space than you GQ, but not much, and like you, things have to earn their space by being immediately useful. I've repurposed a 4 drawer plastic unit which used to be in the kitchen in my old house. It's now in the fitted wardrobe: two drawers have handbags and shoulder bags in them and the other two have scarves, wraps etc.. That's freed up three plastic baskets which can be put to use in the kitchen cupboards. The shelves in the bookcase where the scarves etc were, now have two IKEA wooden drawer boxes, one on each shelf.
Another 4 drawer unit, I've taken the drawers out and used them on shelving in the deep hall cupboard to contain different categories of household items. It's house Tetris, I tell ya. All good fun, but it takes thought and time to work out. Just as well I've retired!0 -
I want to throw decent polo neck t shirts out, the short sleeved ones. I use them for carving and for gardening but am finding more and more that I prefer long sleeves for the allotment, dreading horse fly bites, which were always extreme on me, 6" swellings at least plus the pain. I am also finding that I am using the same few things in this very hot weather, all home made and linen or linen blends. I think, in a month or so, I will be ready to do the last kondo on clothes
House today is gleaming and very tidy with good energy flow- through. I cannot find things but heyho, it will be worth it. I sorted my paperwork evidence yesterday, the incomings and savings attributed to this special house. I even found all the U values, thanks to hubbie`s meticulous filings. Tomorrow is D day, the EA photos, epc and info for selling. My EA is very special and has a wonderful reputation. All ready for listing in september if my new house survey is ok. I do get churnings when I think about it but good old kondo has made it all easier0 -
I have collected 2 bags of stuff to go to the chazzer so far.:T
I have a few books that I will try to get through before I take it all there.0 -

Having delivered paperwork for 2017/18 tax year to our accountant, I've gone through some files and removed some old SA paperwork, some old bank statements etc. Nice pile for chiminea & some for recycling
Have also been getting filing back up to date - it's an ongoing battle here. OH is self employed and I have 2 p/t jobs as well as drawing a small salary from his co. We also have an investment property. All of these need paper records for our accountant. Add to that general household paperwork (including that generated by 4 children at 4 different educational establishments) and I'm always battling to keep on top of the filing. Much better since I KM-d it and got rid of lots (and ordered what remains) - but it still takes up a number of box files, lever arch files and A4 files (and some R-U boxes for old records in the loft) However, I'm feeling pleased with today's progress
Have also been clearing paper of a different sort - the children have sorted through their books. After some being passed down we are still left with 3 large boxes of ones to dispose of. Z1ff1t were only interested in a handful, so I've started listing them in sets/ bundles on fb00k. (1 boxful listed, 2 to go....) - 1 set has been collected, 3 more have people wanting to collect tomorrow (fingers crossed) As the children get the money they are very happy with this! (Most books are DD's, too - and as a uni student she is always happy with extra money!) I figure selling 15 paperbacks for £5 just before the school Summer hols is a good idea - cheap boredom busting! DD's books are almost all immaculate, too (she is a voracious reader, but very fussy about how she keeps her books - she doesn't even break/ bend spines on paperbacks, so they all look great)
I've also kondo-ed a dead Mrs Blackbird from our garden (found under a table down the side of the garden) into the binShe looked unharmed, poor thing - not mauled about at all (although the ants had started congregating under her already

Just over an hour in the bedroom: 3 sweatshirts and 16 t-shirts labelled rags for chazzer, couple more tops they maybe able to sell added to a box that had a few ornaments from a whizz round a couple of windowsills a few weeks ago. Plus a large suitcase full of t-shirts I love that have unaccountably become too small whilst sitting in the wardrobe
that are going into attic labelled too small and the date so if they still don't fit I will know how long they have been up there and they can go in some future km.
Lots of space now on wardrobe :T

I know we are not supposed to kondo family member's stuff, but I could not resist dds' desk/cubby hole wall/baskets of grmrbl.
- I threw out one winebox full of paper 'art'
- picked out all the Dup10 to reassemble the sets and give away or sell (that was just on a quick browse, I know there is more)
- put several larger items in the attic for donating to relatives (foam floor puzzles, etc)
- resorted the playmobi1 and barb1e items into their separate crates

Four bags, a set of unused Christmas-themed napkins and a door-stopper of a book are with the chazzer plus I have returned two library books and got another one out.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

A couple of bits for the CS. A box of too small good brand stuff some still BNWL put onto top shelf of wardrobe because I have donated too much in the past and then had to re buy as weight fluctuates. All the rest I have divided up into outfits and put all the best/newest stuff that I know look good on me on the top rail and the rest of the stuff on the bottom rail with the coat hangers turned round. As I said before I really like all my clothes but perhaps some of them do not look 100% on me so will scrutinise them as I wear them and donate to cs if not up to scratch.
Not really Kondo Marie but best I can do.All that clutter used to be money0 -
I've now dropped 4 dress sizes so all my larger stuff is freshly washed, pressed and listed on the bay of E. It's leaving the house steadily and all the money raised is going straight into the mortgage over payments. I've been able to pick up plenty of replacement smaller sizes at boot fairs and now just need 2 decent winter jumpers and a good thick coat. I've also dropped a shoe size so will sort and sell on my winter boots in a few months. I did find a lady selling all her winter calf and knee length boots for 50p a pair, picked up 2 pairs, one unworn and one with very minimal wear. Both fit like a dream. I've not paid more than £1 an item for clothing and was shocked last week when I was ironing some of my new bits to see the jeans were monsoon and the tops were fat face... I paid 50p each for them. I suspect the original owner paid a lot more!"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0
