I was intending to buy a mandolin until my friend informed me that she had cut her finger taking a new one out of the box for the first time. I didnt bother.

my mandolin had a pronged finger guard but still I sliced the tip of a finger and a finger doesn`t half bleed. The mandolin went out pdq

Snap! I did that years ago when I worked in catering and it really does make a mess. I still have a slightly misshapen finger and a fear of mandolins.
  • ok, I am totally convinced now, and it's going! I am not sure a charity shop will be able to take it. I will try Freecycle but I am feeling worried about the person buying it who is surely going to lose a fingertip to it!

Ouchie to all the mandolin stories!

I haven't done a nearly new sale (NNS) for a year (used to do 3/ yr - all of kids stuff) so expected to have heaps in the loft when I got all the boxes down of stuff we'd put up there in the intervening 12 months. However, there were only 8 - goes to show that we now have less coming in!

DD and I went through the boxes. We've put some books on fb00k and have had several sets sell so far (as she and her siblings get the money they are very happy! :D). I've donated some outgrown uniform to school for spares/ selling and I've put a handful of items of clothing in the recycling bin. A local charity has an appeal out for boys clothes of a certain size, so I have a bag to go there and another 2 bags to go to CS. That still leaves us *some* items to get rid of, but much, much less :T

Have also had 2 flebay sales this weekend - 1 item of kitchenware and 1 toy of DS3's. That leaves me with 1 item on there (a duplicate kitchen item) and 2 to list. Also got rid of heaps of packaging in parcelling up the 2 items (1 weird shaped, 1 very fragile) Definite win :j

 These mandolin things are a menace, so glad I've never been tempted to try one - I'd probably not be typing so well if I had.........

Have turfed about a kilo of paperwork, the greatest amount of which was related to the deceased computer. Astonishing amount of carp, plus some other papers, plus a nice stash of non-confidential paperwork turned into notepads which I use everyday at the office.

Most has gone into the recycling but the to-be-shredded crate is starting to be filled again, only a day after I'd emptied it. Ach well, not going to shred anything until next month, it'll just have to pile up there quietly.

I have thought about some other paperwork which can go out on another day, but feel I've made enough mess for one day.

    G'night, all. GQ xx

Need to get some bits and pieces from the SM so on the way I will drop off a pile of magazines to my friend who is recovering from a hip op, also got a footy poster for her DGS. A small bag of remnants and unused threads going to the the hospice craft shop - maybe a couple of items to the CS but I'd really like to sort out a bit more for them ;)

ha ha, silly me - mandolins and finger guards! Of course I thought of the instrument instead of the implement! I couldn't think how you could cut your finger - although the strings can be hazardous!

I was given a mandolin for Christmas one year, took it out of the box, winced at seeing the unprotected blade and sent it on its way pretty quickly. With my dodgy arthritic hands it was an accident waiting to happen.

OH and I went hunting in my wardrobe for my summer duvet at the weekend (I know, it's only been hot for weeks but I don't like to rush into these things :rotfl: ). We found an old pillow that can go plus a brand new rucksack which I am certain is OHs but he can't work out if so, why it would be in the bottom of my wardrobe. Anyway he's taken it over to his place as it's too big for me anyway.

He was pleased to have created space in the wardrobe "for storing other things". I'm not keen - the rucksack has come out with a bit
of mould on it but also I like the space being a space.

Bits of paper are continuing to leave but there's still yet more to go.
