Also the air conditioning uses a lot of fuel so I only use it when absolutely necessary. Although I was told by a car mechanic that it's important to run the air conditioning for a couple of minutes every now and again.
Hope this helps xx
I hadn't even thought of driving to the bus stop and leaving the car nearby and then hoping on the busHow daft am I especially as we do this when catching a train :rotfl:
Yes agree about the air con. We know it hits the fuel consumption quite hard so we tend to open the windows unless we are going on a very long car journey and then it is used on and off to keep the temperature at an acceptable rate"One hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much was in my bank account, nor what my clothes looked like but the world may be a little bit better because I was important in the life of a child."0 -
Fiscal Fast Day 181
Today was a very exciting day for my hubby and I - we went to our very first agricultural auction held in a field  I was surprised at the variety of lots on offer ranging from chicks to a caravan and a boat. Obviously there were a lot of farm machinery but it was enlightening. For example, the Auctioneer is driven in the back of the Land Rover up and down the aisles right in front of the lots which is very unique.
On this occasion we didn't buy anything but we will do in the future as home research showed us that there is quite a bit of profit to be made.
Even though we didn't spend at the auction we did spend!
We called in on our way home at 2 charity shops and Bookers but I'm pleased to report that it was a LSD"One hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much was in my bank account, nor what my clothes looked like but the world may be a little bit better because I was important in the life of a child."0 -
Fiscal Fast Day 182
A VERY important day todaySuit fitting for my hubby.
Hubby is hiring his suit from Moss Bros for our son's wedding and for the fitting he could either go to Falmouth or Truro (our nearest branches) As we had recently made a trip to Falmouth, Truro it was.
We planned the trip carefully looking at where else we wanted to visit on the way and the way back.
First stop was Pool Market where my husband had his haircut ready for the big day. Pool Market is a mixture of stalls selling new and second hand items including an indoor car boot sale area. - it really can be a goldmine for re-selling on ebay if you time it right (we are still learning!!!) We picked up a few bits including some Peter James' books for the lady I work for.
A quick race into Bookers bagged us some fab RTCs and then we were Truro bound.
Onwards to the suit fitting which went extremely well (hubby isn't really a suit man but he looked gorgeous)
After Moss Bros we called in at The Works to return an item (and amazingly I didn't but any stationery  ) followed by Waterstones where we bought some Poldark postcard, Wilkinsons where my willpower completely gave in and bought a really wonderful organiser, TK Maxx for lush pasta and finally rounding off with fish and chips.
Daft as it sounds this was very controlled for me. We went with a list and for 95% of the time we stuck to it (stationey once again was my downfall :rotfl::rotfl )
Spending wise, best of all was the Fish And Chips as it was a treat from my friend to my hubby for the many hours he had spent at hers doing DIY (3 consecutive Mondays)
A super day "One hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much was in my bank account, nor what my clothes looked like but the world may be a little bit better because I was important in the life of a child."0 -
Unlike The Boomtown Rats, I do like Mondays as it is the easiest day to have a NSD and today was one of those days - wahoo "One hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much was in my bank account, nor what my clothes looked like but the world may be a little bit better because I was important in the life of a child."0

Fiscal Fast Day 184
What a STRESSFUL day today was - I knew it would be but it didn't take the pressure off at all
My DS1 get's married in approximately 25 days time and there is SO much to do and plan for. Also on his wedding day is my Mum's 80th birthday so a double celebration
It was heads down for several hours pouring all the thoughts and plans that you hold in your head out down onto weekly planner for the next 6 weeks.
Our gorgeous pupsters are going into kennels for the weekend of the wedding so there was that to book as well as sorting out injections for the puppy.
All in all it was an excellent 'brain dump' as everything is so much more manageable now.
Our DD2 and DD3 were involved in all the planning including menu planning and together we wrote a shopping list for Sainsburys.
Just a bit of humour to share with you - my DD3 was asked to wash up and she said 'No, I did it yesterday!' It was pointed out that she last washed up in fact on Sunday. This is where I nearly laughed my head off...she said I'm quite happy to wash up once a week but I don't want to wash up everyday :rotfl:
What a lot she has to learn about real life
Armed with a list and a £9 off £60 spend we headed off to Sainsbury's and spent £62 before the coupon came off. About £10 of this shop belonged to DD2 and DD3 so I was happy with this as I hope (and pray) that we will not need to do another major shop before we leave for our celebrations
Financially a major High Spend Day but budgeted for "One hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much was in my bank account, nor what my clothes looked like but the world may be a little bit better because I was important in the life of a child."0 -
:rotfl: my niece was aged about 12 when her mum asked her to dust something, and she said despairingly 'it's not fair, I do ALL the cleaning round here'! We still remind her of this from time to time, now she has her own home!
You are doing really well, I have had the Sainsbury's vouchers but because I'm on my own I rarely spend enough to make it worthwhile. I joined Bookers on your recommendation, but haven't actually gone in with my ID and stuff yet, I had better do it soon or it will probably expire.
Keep going, you're inspiring me!Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -

Thanks for the words of encouragement PWD especially about the bit that I am inspiring you
I have received SO much support from the folks on MSE that it is nice to feel that you are giving something back."One hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much was in my bank account, nor what my clothes looked like but the world may be a little bit better because I was important in the life of a child."0 -
Fiscal Fast Day 185
Rosudgeon Car Boot Sale beckoned today
The boot sale doesn't really get up and running until 9.30am but today we arrived at 7.50am. Why? We wanted to people watch and learn how the car boot sale evolves.
We got a prime spot in the car park (as rare as gold dust) and just sat and watched. We know quite a lot of dealers now who sell at shops in Penzance , Hayle and beyond.
We have learned an awful lot but probably won't come back again this early as our mission was accomplished
There is no doubt that since we took on this fast our passion for buying a re-selling has increased ten fold. After all there is only so much you can save on a set income so another factor has been to increase our income...more on that on Day 186
Today again was a mixed bag of items bought for home and for re-sale. I would say in terms of a CBS, it was a LSD :j"One hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much was in my bank account, nor what my clothes looked like but the world may be a little bit better because I was important in the life of a child."0 -
Fiscal Fast Day 186
Now that the World Cup is over I can share with you what I bought and just how well I did with it on ebay. I wanted to tell you SO much at the time but I couldn't because if another MSE'er read and copied it, it would have jepardised my listings.
It was a World Cup glass that I bought for £2 and managed to sell about 18 of them for £9.99 - a VERY good result. The best type of ebay, a low outlay with a very healthy profit which has increased my savings significantly
With today being a work day, I spend under a £5 on RTC Muller spreadable butter (reduced from £2 to 75p a pack - I bought all the 5 packs that they had)
A super shop"One hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much was in my bank account, nor what my clothes looked like but the world may be a little bit better because I was important in the life of a child."0 -
PWD - I am going to have to wag my finger at you!!! :rotfl:
Stop procrastinating and get yourself down to Bookers....you won't regret it (provided that you time it right)"One hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much was in my bank account, nor what my clothes looked like but the world may be a little bit better because I was important in the life of a child."0
