Untaxed vehicle parked illegally

I'm struggling to see the problem other than the OP having a bee in their bonnet. If the car was taxed or the people had another car instead which they parked outside their house then the OP would still be in the same situation so in my view the car not being taxed is neither here nor there in regards to the OP being able to park a bit closer to their house.
Perhaps the OP shouldn't have moved to somewhere where there isn't much parking. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
OP, the council deal with abandoned vehicles, DVLA with untaxed vehicles. The council will do a check with DVLA to see who the registered keeper is - if it's registered to someone then they'll likely do no more. It's not the council's job to deal with untaxed or uninsured vehicles. Your best bet if you want something to happen is with DVLA - if it isn't taxed they'll send a van round eventually, clamp it up and the owner will pay up or lose it. It might take a while though.0

If the cul de sac is a private road then it's more difficult to get the DVLA involved.....espo if the vehicle is SORNED0

I live in a small town in Worcestershire and a few weeks ago the DVLA paid a visit to several streets including the one opposite where I live. Two vehicles in that street alone were clamped for having no tax, and had large notices stuck on them.
Maybe ask DVLA if they can do the same in your street."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -

The link to do that was posted half-way down the last page.

It was pointed out then that the OP had already done that...0 -
I've reported an untaxed, no MOT and no insurance car parked in my street before.....DVLA did nothing. I was left thinking here is a known illegal vehicle waiting for you to come get it and make some money and you can't be bothered!? Well thanks for that, I'm so glad I pay for my car to be legal, what a mug.
I then reported it to the council as abandoned. They slapped a note on the windscreen giving them 30 days to move it....it was moved on day 30. I then found out who the owner was....a neighbour with an empty driveway he could have been using all that time but chose to inconvenience other neighbours instead and was rather petty in moving on day 30 to make a point. 18 months later the car is still sat on his drive, has never moved and isn't SORN'd either, still just as illegal as before but the DVLA don't care so long as it's not on the road. So why bother with having a SORN option.
While it isn't being a nuisance to the street now in taking up a parking space it's still rather galling to those of us who pay our way in life only to watch people like that seemingly waltz though life getting away with it time and time again. So the OP has my sympathy and I hope the council get it moved for you.0 -

Why was the car an inconvenience and a nuisance? And would it have been any less so if it had been Taxed, Mot'd and insured?0 -
In my example I would say it was selfish to park it in the street as he had an empty driveway he could have used, so he was taking a space someone else may have needed in a crowded street. I see your point though that if someone needs to park in the street then it makes no real difference if it's taxed or not. I was meaning that in the case of a car that never moves it could be taking up a space in the street that someone who actually drives a legal car could have used.0

So what's you're saying is.....'would you be any worse off if you were paying your income tax and the bloke next door was getting benefits and not declaring his £50k black economy work'.
Yeah makes sense...0 -

No, I am specifically on about inconvenience and nuisance caused, which on this occasion seems to be the hypothetical using the last parking space in the road. And pointing out that that inconvenience would be no greater or less if the vehicle was 'legal' or not.
Do you want to have another try?0
