Love food hate Waste Part two for 2018 :)

I have been using food from the freezer & stores - now have a little wiggle room in the kitchen freezer. Think it might be time to have another sort out although I have been pretty good at keeping my lists up to date
The kitchen fridge has quite a bit of space - so I will be able to fill with fresh vegetables later in the week.
Lunch for me today was a mug of spicy vegetable & Stilton soup with hm croutons but DH & DSis had lo onion pasta from the freezer. Dinner was fish finger sandwiches for DH & I, whilst DSis had the last portion of last night’s cottage pie - which apparently was even nicer tonight
On an aside, of the 15 cards I posted through neighbours doors, I have received 3 cards; one card + a box of 6 mini doughnuts; 5 hm Swedish buns.
By the way, well done JackieO, you have had more success with Jack than I have had with my DSis - she is still wasteful but I do try to mitigate her waste

Hello Folks,
I have been ill with flu for a couple of week, and although fresh food supplies are low, I have managed to feed us from the freezer and the cupboards. :j
Best receipt all week was milk and paracetamol :rotfl:
Managed to make a cottage pie last night using up the last of the potatoes and some mince from the freezer.
If I have the energy, I will try to make a banana cake this afternoon, as there are 5 bananas in the fruit bowl which no one is eating.0 -
YORKLASS There's sometimes free kindle recipe books online, also Google air fryer recipes x:D
No Kindle here I'm afraid (I prefer "proper" books :rotfl:) and, although I have had a wander round t'internet for recipes, my poor old and much-used laptop is running on snail juice these days so it gets very frustrating at times waiting for pages to load up. Have found one or two though that I'll be giving a try.
Dinner tonight is chicken, leek & bacon pie (from freezer), lo green beans and mash. I might add in some sweetcorn too if the plates look a bit bare.Be kind to others and to yourself too.0 -
I have made macaroni cheese for dinner as had some bacon need using up. I’m going to have to do this more often. Instead of trying to please everyone and cooking different meals just make one and not give options. Yesterday I made three different dinners and there is only the 4 of us. I’m going to have to plan better and be a bit lmore inventive if I want to get the budget down!0

Since the kids left home and DH and I retired we've become adept at reusing any leftovers. It's always a delight to reinvent a previous dish and not have to do the cooking.
On Sunday we had HM veg curry. On Mon I baked bread and in order not to waste the empty oven space I roasted a few chunks of potato, which were eaten with the leftover curry. We left a portion of this for DD who was visiting, but she didn't eat it as she had eaten something before visiting us.
Yesterday I added some leftover cooked lentils from the fridge and some water to the (by now) 3 day old curry, heated and blended it into soup.. It was delicious and because of the variations it didn't feel like eating the same thing 3 days running.
Today I made bottom-of-fridge blended veg soup, there's a bit left but not enough for 2 portions. I will stretch it with water, a pjnch of bouillon powder and will cook a handful of macaroni in it. Tomorrow lunch sorted! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Hi all - have been very remiss at keeping up with this thread of late.
I seem to have massively overbought on veg. Tonight we had a cheesy veggie bake, but i've still loads of greens left to use. I've a savoy cabbage, curly kale, spinach and cavolo nero - any ideas? I guess a soup...I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

Savoy cabbage always works well stir fry with onion, garlic and bacon, skip the bacon if you're a veggiespinach can be used to make either a spinach, feta, pinenut pie or use the same filling to stuff filo triangles.

If you are cooking potatoes anytime soon bubble and squeak will use up some of the leftovers.
