Just had a good root around in my diminishing freezer stuff and discovered a couple of lamb chops, they are defrosting on the side and will be eaten tonight with mash and steamed carrots and cabbage.really pleased at how little stuff I have had to buy this month owing to using up freezer stuff.I have £18.90 left in my food purse to go into my holiday fund from my November food budget. December food budget will be fairly small anyway as I am away from the 24th until after New Year, plus I have a fairly full calendar of things to go to in December, with a weekend away next weekend plus three parties and several afternoon outings where there is food involved
so not a great deal of cooking for me in December

OH and I tried to reorganise the freezer yesterday, but only managed two drawers as he decided the weather looked fine enough for a cycle ride, lots of things then got shoved back in, so my freezer log will be somewhat inaccurate and I envisage me being a little grumpy until I have run things down more:( I have placed a meat order to arrive next week, it includes a pork and a beef joint so that one should be our Christmas dinner:D
Conflicted between using things up and stocking up against possible bad weather, although we live in a small town, the snow plough always clears the road our cul de sac leads onto and pushes all the snow over the end of our close, painful joints make walking on snow and ice a little precarious:eek:The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. I have some chicken stock cubes that are 2 years out of date, I'm probably being silly, but I thought I'd ask anyway. Can I use them? I think it's the whole "be careful with chicken" thing as I wouldn't think twice if it was a veggie one. I'm being silly aren't I?
Smell them. If the fat in them has gone rancid you'll be able to tell.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
My menu plan for the week has gone completely to pot:rotfl:
Mostly because we visited Borough Market on Wednesday. We treated ourselves to a couple of swordfish steaks, some cavalo nero (black cabbage), chicory, carrots, baby potatoes, beef steak tomato. Oh the joy of NO plastic bags for the vegetables& only buying as much as I needed
Lunch today - spicy vegetable soup from freezer - enough for a large mug each for DH & I - delicious 😋
Dinner was prepared by me & DH - pan fried swordfish steaks, boiled baby potatoes, roasted asparagus + black cabbage saut!ed with onion & garlic & seasoned with rosemary & chilli. No sauceThe swordfish steaks were so large that although we cooked both, we only ate one between us :T - absolutely scrumptious
The other steak will be flaked & added to lo asparagus (chopped) & lo black cabbage & served with spaghetti tossed in olive oil, pepper & grated parmesan - tomorrows dinner
The lo boiled potatoes have been sliced & fried & added to the rather bland paprika seasoned pumpkin soup - tomorrow’s lunch
I have also made a large chicken & chorizo casserole - several days dinners & the possibility of portions for the freezer + a large pot of very flavourful vegetable soup - several days lunches & possibly freezer portions. Also made a chicken curry for the freezer. Now my only problem is do I have enough freezer space :rotfl:
Nothing has been thrown away since the olives on the 24th :T
DH & I like to experiment so are having a great time while DSis is in Francehowever she is back on Friday so need to have a supply of non experimental meals for her :rotfl:

Lunch will be HM leek and potato soup using up the past their best small spuds in the veggie rack and dinner tonight will be two stuffed green peppers from the bag I bought last week I will stuff them with diced up mushrooms (going a wee bit wrinkly at the moment ) and some grated cheese and wrap in foil and bake in my remoska served with a big salad from the fridge and some diced black grapes and lemon yogurt for pudding all using up what I have so no shopping for me yet this month I managed to stash just over £20.00 from my food purse at the end of November and I know this months food bill won't be high as I am away for the last week or so in December and also have several meals out planned for the evenings two parties that I know of plus several other dinners This weekend coming I am away to my sis-in-laws in Faversham I also have two birthday meals to go to. so my food bill will be pretty minute this month .great getting some space at last in the freezer though0

My DM has had to give up her home and go into residential care (she seems happy and settled even though she has only been there for 2 weeks:D)
We emptied the freezer and defrosted it, I came home with lots of odd packets and containers of frozen fruit (apple, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, some plums and a few cherries). Yesterday afternoon and this afternoon I have made jam from it, a total of 23 jars mainly 450 gms and a few 415 gms. No one else in the family wanted it and I had no freezer space, I am well pleased with my efforts, but my stirring arm is a bit weary:eek: Some will be offered to family members, but my preserves cupboard will be very well stocked. Waste no want not:DThe best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -

Same dinner for us last night except we had sweet potato jackets instead of wedges. Really enjoyed the lemon sole.
