Am either going to do cheese on toast, or egg on toast for tea. Or maybe combine them? Does fried egg "go" with cheese?
    It does in an omelette:D

Or as I had last night, cheesy beans + fried egg on toast

Dinner was salmon, chips + salad, just right & easy to prepare

Lovely day, just a shame I had to work  I hope it means a good weekend

I over slept this morning as my alarms failed (the radio and the furry one) I looked at it 15 minutes before it should have gone off turned onto my back and snoozed and planned my day and then thought that a long 15 minutes, it was 55 minutes later :eek: his lordship was sound to sleep, he usually comes and lay on me  luckily I usually get to work half hour early so after rushing and no cuppa I got to work just for 9am:o. breakfast was at my desk. I'll have to check it before bed or set my phone, it's about 30 years old :D

Lunch was smoked salmon and egg salad

I popped into W*itrose for tonic (I was out ) and kitchen roll i did forget the kitchen roll again :o however I picked up YS sourdough bread, probably not so good as Caroncs and reduced half price bacon from the meat counter so dinner was cba bacon sandwich :D the bacon was really good, lovely and thick, no white gunk in the pan and hardy any fat, I wished I brought more than just a sandwich worth. I'm blaming Farway for his frequent mention of bacon sandwiches. I may regret the bread later :o

    Good evening everyone,
I've had a busy day so I'm glad the kids have popped out for a bit to visit a mate.:)
My son was remarkably unscathed from his (many) beers last night and helped me with a load of errands and stuff at my Dad's this morning before heading to help a mate move flat as his B-I-L had let him down! His fiancee is up to her eyes in the final push for her PhD so we left her in peace, holed up in my dining room to get on with it.
I then had a bit of a cookathon as I promised to make dinner for us all tonight as well give us stuff for the next few days. I took the legs and wings off of a chook then slowcooked the crown with lots of herbs, garlic, lemon and paprika for 2 hours on high & 2 1/2 on low. It's yielded lots of lovely juicy meat and the bones, back & skin are now back in the SC cooker to make stock. The legs & wings have been frozen. I also made a leek, asparagus & ricotta puff pastry tart. It was a little bit faffy but worth it as it's yummy.:) It's made loads so definitely not CFO friendly, though it would freeze well. Dinner tonight was a small piece tart with green salad (from a bag;)) to start, then chicken, Jersey Royal spuds, green beans & tenderstem broccoli with butter, lemon & dill . The sourdough loaf worked really well despite the slight mishap pre-baking, I'd say my best one yet.:D For lunch I made us avocado, tomato, bacon and on sourdough. This was bacon from my Dad's freezer that made it's way too mine not my usual butcher's stuff. It did taste ok one I eventually got it crisp up but my word what a lot of water came from it and my did it shrink so I had to more to the pan. Not a patch on my usual and as my Dad never bought the cheapest option probably much the same cost ;)
Tomorrow is more errands & chores, the kids need to pop to Glasgow in the afternoon and as there are plenty of LOs/bits in the fridge I reckon it will be a non-cooking day and I can get some more done in the garden later in the day.

No proper meals again. YS nectarine with YS kiwi fruit, flapjacks and other random snacks earlier. Then for supper the second YS lightly dusted basa fillet from the freezer with no-added-sugar ketchup. :o

I deduce that the delish ingredient in the seasoning is yeast extract. Likeliest substitute from the Big Four appears to be "MSC responsibly sourced" lightly dusted yellowfin sole fillets. Nothing more than "produced in the UK" on the Sainsbogs website.

Basa is also sold under various names such as River Cobbler. You should hear our fish man going on about it! Wouldn't touch it. But that also goes for farmed salmon. There was a TV documentary about it a while back. Even pristine looking salmon farms in Norwegian fjords are not what they seem. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/apr/01/is-farming-salmon-bad-for-the-environment

Will read this article, (belated) thank you. I grab Lidl 'Deluxe' Scottish salmon fillets whenever yellow stickered. Pulled from the freezer and it is "RSPCA Assured" (I know from meat this is worthless).

The only fishmonger in our indoor market is rubbish: sold me expired frozen seafood!

Fire Fox, I'm guessing from your posts you prefer organic / high welfare food?
I can confirm Lidl do have organic milk, and free range eggs just in case you eat them
However are you aware of "basa" / "river cobbler"AKA Vietnamese catfish origins & production?

    Nothing high welfare there
Not trying to preach, everyone to their own, just not for me

Whilst reading the bottom I learned that "The basa in this product comes from a farm that has been independently certified to the ASC's standard for responsibly farmed seafood." Nothing more than "farmed in Vietnam" on Sainsbogs website.

I buy their sea bass fillets too when YS. IIRC that says "responsibly sourced" on the front .... Nothing more than "Farmed in Turkey and Greece" on Sainsbogs website.

ASC website looks legit! :j I read their pages on farming standards for basa and sea bass.

Fire Fox have you ever tried Alaskan pollock? It's wild fished so none of the issues that there are around Basa, which like Farway I try to avoid, and is generally regarded as a good sustainable option. Tesco (so others) also sell a chilled breaded version which is £2.39 for 600g which I like.:)

Is it branded as Hearty Food Co? Ingredients include yeast extract! :D

Not sure Marmite-ing a raw fish fillet will end well. :rotfl:

:o In summary: EPIC FAIL at reading labels. :o

I had a very early night last night and woke up starving! A smoothie is not going to cut it today!

I just made pasta shells with lentil bolognese with marinated mushrooms and steamed brussels and ate it all in about one second.

I will have my green smoothie around 11 instead.:)

Yesterday I ate out twice and spent a fortune on food :)

1/ Chips and fishcake from a chippy, eaten in the car.
2/ Pack of four Crunchie bars
3/ Indian takeaway, brought home to eat (edible, but wouldn't rush back there, but £6.75 so cheapish).

    :)

Still got half the rice in the fridge, which is typical for a biryani as you do get a lot of the rice.

After porridge breakfast my first trip into town post op, needed to walk about a bit but not go daft

Hot sunny day, ideal for shop mooching. This time I bought my toms & FR eggs from the greengrocer, a bit dearer but not exorbitantly so, with the usual reasons to buy from him

Found my dinner in Asda, individual YS mince & onion pie. I'll add some frozen chips to it

Out of luck in W/rose, must be catching Brambling, I fancied bacon butty today but no YS bacon around

All this farmed salmon talk, I usually have L's or Iceland's but am aware of the methods used, and just today I had marketing mail from the farmer place I order meat, seems they have Scottish salmon source, Shetlands, farmed of course, but seems ethical, no colourings or antibiotics etc. Just looked on web site, gulp, £35 + per kg, £7.11 for 200g
Or could go for Wiltshire trout, bit less at £5.78 200g
maybe next order I'll try it, I know the ethical meat was super so worth a punt

Lunch was meant to be a cheese + salad sarnie, but I forgot to put the cheese in, plonker:o

Dinner is the YS pie & chips

That's actually not too bad for decent farmed salmon, possibly a bit cheaper if you either buy a side or a whole fish and portion it yourself which is what I tend to do. If you are thinking of buying you should ask them which fishery is their supplier and then have a Google.:)

    Good evening everyone,

It's been lovely & sunny here today though the wind is cold. This morning my son lugged things about in the garden for me while I sat on the deck with a cuppa directing operations;)- he said it was better than a session at the gym especially the 125L bags of compost:eek:. After chicken salad on sourdough and flat peaches for lunch, him and his fiancee have headed up to Glasgow to meet up with old pals from uni so I'm CFO tonight (and probably tomorrow as I think they are seeing their Dad). I spent most of the rest of the afternoon planting up - that's about 80% of the flowers planted and hopefully I'll get the rest done tomorrow. I also got the final tub set up of greenhouse tomatoes sorted out. Just the basket/patio pots ones now. Then it's the veg patch....... Early evening my sis and nephew popped round for a catch up and sorting out arrangements for our "gathering" on Sunday. We had hoped to bbq but the forecast is for rain so it may well be inside!

Having had a small piece of asparagus tart for breakfast:o and chicken for lunch for dinner tonight I'm jazzing up a frozen margherita by adding some parma ham, LO ricotta and wilting some of a bag of watercress/rocket/spinach on the top. There's a glass left in a bottle of red so it would be a shame not to use it up:D

I've been snacking on stuff all day, all healthy stuff, apart from the wine.:o

Last thing I ate was a veggie burger with a salad and strawberries and a tangerine.
