I have managed not to go to the local shop for the last three days and just finished up the last slice of bread. I have some steak with onions and mushrooms and beef stock in the pressure king pro for tonight. Have one big potato left that could make potato wedges to go with the steak. Porridge for breakfast and some scrambled eggs on toast for lunch.
I am so chuffed I have managed not to shop mindlessly and have ordered some groceries to be delivered tomorrow lunchtime. Small loaves (a couple to freeze), eggs, SR flour, lots of fruit and veg as well as a 2.5 kg bag of potatoes, some fish and some cold continental meat. With stuff I already have in the fridge and freezer that should last me at least for a week even if a DD comes round for a bite to eat. I even got special yoghurt for SIL and some fromage frais that baby loves, an offer on decaff coffee and diet coke and probably paid the same amount for a week of healthy shopping as I would have frittered away in a few trips to the corner shop.
Now I am a bus trip away from the proper supermarket at the other end of town I don't get YS items any more and found that when I did manage to get there the YS items had either already gone or were things I did not really want or would use."This site is addictive!"

Good evening everyone,
I've spent today mainly at my Dad's which involved an awful lot of hanging around and managing twice to bump my head on a shelf in one of the rooms. Said shelf will need to come down before the flat goes on the market as it is real H&S risk as it far too close to the door! Unfortunately his furniture wasn't collected- longish story but in a nutshell the company (which is a small, local charity) had a data loss last week. I felt quite sorry for the chap I spoke who in fairness had probably spent a fair chunk of the day being shouted at! It's now booked for tomorrow. Of course in the interests of trying to make good use of my time I had arranged for other things to happen while I was there so couldn't just cut my losses and head home!
Thankfully I had packed plenty of tea bags, had my book and specs and made up a cheese salad roll for lunch.:)
I've defrosted a couple of sausages for dinner which have been skinned and made into balls which I'll cook in a portion of the LO veg/butterbean mix from Saturday. The rest of the mix will be frozen.
I've almost reached the end of my sourdough loaf and will make another one later in the week. I've various bready things in the freezer such as bagels, a crusty roll and crumpets so a good opportunity to use some of these up. I will need to sort out a grocery delivery but reckon I can wait until Thursday before I need this. I last bought any groceries on 29/04 so they've lasted well - the joys of having well stocked freezers/cupboards come into their own for me as it means I can space out shops. Now I'm not getting bits for my Dad in my order I'm trying to stretch deliveries until I can cover the minimum spend and not take the hit (too often) on the surcharge for being under. Of a course a couple of bottles of wine can be handy in bumping the price up;):rotfl:0 -
Yesterday's beef stew was gorgeous, I know the meat was expensive but it certainly came though in the taste, so rich & meaty. Now I'll have to buy more, and the venison talk prompted me to look out for it, on my next order, as other posters, it's free range culled deer, possibly Bambi's aunt;).
If you're going back to the New Forest for your meat I'm told you can get muntjac venison down there, my BIL won't eat bambi :rotfl: but my sister has a friend who says it's very nice, never had it myself but I understand they try to cull it as it's not a native deer.
I was taken out to afternoon tea today. So had porridge for breakfast and then afternoon tea at 3pm, even through I brought back a doggy bag I'm still stuffed so no dinner required. My nephew came too which was lovely and thanks to him I'm now the owner of a yogurt maker, so i could be asking you questions Farway. Part of the tea included a rhubarb scone (the size of three average scones ) with rhubarb jam yum
. Back to the diet tomorrow

Oh afternoon tea Brambling how lovely but not surprised you are stuffed- all those lovely carbs & fats:D
Certainly when I was at primary school and my Mum was at home full time, us kids always got our main meal during the "lunch" break as we lived just round the corner. My parents varied depending on my Dad's shifts. When my Mum went back to work in the late 70s our main meal swapped to the evening usually around 6/6.30pm as she worked until 5pm and we then took a packed lunch to school. My maternal grandparents always had their main (two course) meal at 1pm as my Papa had a shop nearby so closed it and came home. "Something on toast" was their usual evening meal. My paternal grandparents were the opposite as my Papa only got a short break during the day so took a packed lunch to work with him.
I find these if I have my main meal earlier in the day so eat less later that I always am really hungry all day the following day for some reason.0 -
Sunday: Made a pink smoothie (frozen raspberries/ sour cherries/ raw beetroot/ Greek yogurt).
Then Stroganoff-esque vegetables (chestnut mushrooms/ banana shallots/ tenderstem broccoli/ Greek yoghurt/ garlic/ smoked paprika). Eaten with a YS hot smoked salmon fillet and jumbo prawns from the freezer.
Yellow sticker bonanza: Tenderstem broccoli again (2x20p), baby corn (30p) and leeks (30p). Think I also got a 3for2 discount! PLUS two bags Jersey new potatoes (2x15p) and two YS ready meals that all went home with the ex/ friend. PLUS four bottles of 'Finest' NZ Sauvignon Blanc that I noticed a few days ago were scanning at half price (usually £8). :j
Monday: Hard boiled six eggs for meals or snacks. Prepped and frozen the leeks.
Ate sweet and sour vegetables (jar sauce/ baby corn/ tenderstem broccoli/ mini peppers/ red onion/ garlic/ ginger) with some of the remaining YS whole chicken.
Food waste: Dried onions (expired 2011 ). A yellow apple.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Evening all!
I hope all are well? My good news is that my eye infection is mostly improved. I still have some eye dryness and light sensitivity, but I have some optician-recommended eye drops to combat the dryness, if needed.
I shall do my last dose of the actual medication tomorrow morning, then I've got an 8:30 bus into town to get to the train station for my trip down to London for 2 nights.
I've managed to make a right faff out of packing this time... I think because I'm going to the opera tomorrow night, so want to dress up a little bit. Normally, for just regular West End theatre, I'm content in jeans, smart-ish trainers and my raincoat! But I don't feel like that's appropriate for the opera. So it's "proper" shoes, smart trousers and a top. Also I found out the other day that an old friend I haven't seen for 15 years is also going to the same performance tomorrow, so I want to look a bit nice, in case I bump into her there. We both know the other is going, and although we haven't made plans to hunt each other down, I know we'll both be on the lookout for each other.
I've packed a little lunch to take down with me. A sarnie, a pre-packaged pastry and a bit of cheese. And a bottle of water that'll hopefully last until I can fill it up at the hotel around 4-ish.
Normally, I go all-out for my London trips (it's a real treat for me), but this time around I'm trying to save a few quid where it's easy, and where I won't feel deprived. And that fiver I've saved on a lunch, is a fiver I can spend on a nice coffee somewhere. My first stop will probably be the Wellcome Trust Collection. They have a lovely coffee shop and book shop, and always have some interesting free exhibitions on. Although if the weather is nice, I might hop right on the tube and go up to Kew Gardens... All weather-dependent!
Have a pleasant few days everyone, and I'll try and get caught up on Friday.Because it's fun to have money!

Hmm, I thought what do I really want to eat when I got up, some Whole Earth smooth PB.
I didn't take a pitta bread out of they freezer to defrost so I had to have it on rice crackers.
I also fancied a cup of proper tea. I've been mostly off it as the Chinese herbalist said it might make my sinus issue worse so I only have about one cup a month now.
The tea tasted like heaven.:rotfl:

Very good news.:)0 -
Fire Fox it's great when YS turns into a bonanza, well done on that
Usual Tuesday, mooch in L's before volunteer job
Boring stuff, but YS [20p] fresh fruit salad x 2 + YS 20p chicken & bacon sarnie "to go".
The sarnie fell into the non ethical meat family, but at 20p just had to have it. I had it for lunch, OK at 20p but not full price
Lunch has now changed my dinner plan, I had intended using my new HM loaf at lunchtime, now I think I'll make another sarnie for dinner with the loaf, CBA to think of anything more exciting
I fancy opening a tin of Brexit salmon,to put in the sarnie, that should do me for a couple of days once opened
Reminds me, tinned salmon has never returned to L's shelves. But I found the honey this morning, conveniently near the coffee
Brambling, congrats on yoghurt maker acquisition.
I'm sure once you get going you'll never look back. I find it fits in nicely just before I ping the porridge because I use some of that morning's dose of yoghurt to start my next batch
I used this firm as starter yoghurt, thick, creamy and not sharpEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
I had a pitta bread with caramelised onion houmous, sliced cucumber with dried dill and romaine lettuce for lunch, along with a bowl of the HM tomato soup. I added red lentils to the soup yesterday as well.:)
It was quite nice having soup as it feels chilly again.
I'm not sure what to have for dinner...2025 GOALS
