....Into pub for cold pint of soda & lime...
How much did they charge you for that?
I remember a few years ago some pubs would charge the rate of a splash of lime (say 25p) for a half pint glass.... and some would charge about £1.20 (equivalent price of ordering a coke). As it was never on any visible price list it was hit/miss how much anywhere would charge - and even one pub would have differing prices depending on who "made up the price on the fly" on the day.
I stopped drinking it.... at 25p I was happy enough, but to be charged a "full branded Coke price" was taking the mick a bit. I'd rather just order a Coke and know the price I was paying.0 -
Good morning everyone,
Hope everyone is enjoying the weather:). It's been glorious here and we've been making the most of it. I have eaten far too much over the weekend between a bbq on Friday where we butterflied a leg of lamb and at my friends' yesterday where she had cooked a huge piece of venison and I had beetroot cured a side of salmon. Back to plainer fare today though I still have salmon in the fridge as there was too much to take with us. My son's fiancee made "proper" sourdough bread which was gorgeous and I have a loaf of it here and my own wee jar of starter in the fridge:D. Elder son and his fiancee left first thing as they are expecting it to be a slow drive back with all the holiday traffic. Younger son is still snoozing and then plans to service his car. I need to have a domestic day as chaos rules and there is a mountain of laundry needing done but I hope to get some gardening done later.
Lunch will be cured salmon on sourdough with salad but I'm not sure about tonight possibly cauli cheese.0 -
'Morning all, porridge breakfastLunch will be cured salmon on sourdough with salad but I'm not sure about tonight possibly cauli cheese.
However, nil lunch because of invite over to DD's for Easter family "do". Off at noonish, and hoping M27 traffic is not all going westwards. DD lives near New Forest and the traffic can be horrendous holiday times
PN the soda & lime is variable prices as you say, around a quid is "normal" but I prefer it rather than sickly sweet soft drinks, and around here cola type soft drinks are nearly similar price to a pint, around £3 mark, which is utter & complete rip off, especially if there are kids who "must have" cola
No idea what I'll be eating for rest of day, I [STRIKE]hope [/STRIKE]expect chocolate & cakes will feature heavily over DD's.
SIL made a pizza oven, last year, so could be HM pizza, or maybe BBQ? All veggie at their house, not that I mind, the only thing I dislike is the veggie burgers, always seem dry, bit like I imagine eating a beer mat would be MO:D
It was cheesy beans on toast last night, couldn't face the last portion of beef casserole so bunged it in freezer, can't see me eating that this weekEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
I forgot to get the mini baguette out of the freezer last night so all I have had is a bowl of blueberries.
I am going to have the baguette with vegan cheese and salad when I get in. If it has defrosted!:D
I'm going to make satay courgette noodles later as I fancied that as I saw someone making it on YouTube the other day.:)0 -
Oh yes, I have some leftover Quorn and veg that can go in the noodle thing too.
I need to finish doing the laundry, clean my sandals and remember to buy dog treats when I'm out.
The dogs expect a treat after their meals twice a day. Spoiled!:rotfl:2025 GOALS

I was at the supermarket for opening at 9am today, hoping to beat the bank holiday crowds, and it wasn't too bad. I stuck to my list, with the exception of some garlic sauce that caught my eye (I'm getting bored of mayo, and tomato sauce disagrees with my tongue at times - I had an awful tongue infection nearly 3 years ago now, which damaged the surface, making it very, very sensitive to concentrated tomato flavouring, and mint)
Came home and made up sandwiches for the freezer, to pull out for work. There were some leftovers from last half term, so I've got more than enough to see me through this coming half term. It's a boring job, but it saves a lot of time and faff later on, and they defrost pretty well.
Breakfast today was eggs and coffee. But from tomorrow I'll be back to yoghurt.
I've just had lunch, which was a sandwich, some cucumber, grapes and a wedge of Edam.
For dinner I've got a pizza in the freezer. Keeping it simple.
I might have a mug of Bovril in a bit... It seems a strange choice for a hot sunny day, but I suddenly thought of it earlier, and now I really want it.Because it's fun to have money!

Food's all a bit odd... I went out earlier, so took the opportunity to pop into Tesco, which I rarely do. It was utterly bunged with people, so I emerged from there with a 4-pack of beans, a loaf of bread, a 500g packet of spirali pasta (for mac cheese I thought, even though I've already plenty of a slightly different shape/size in the house already) and two packs of their 14p noodles (curry flavour).
I then popped into another L1dl to see if they sell my fizzy pop - nope. While in there I got a punnet of baby plum tomatoes, a cucumber and 2 scotch eggs.
Lunch ended up being a scotch egg, 4 baby plum tomatoes, a chunk of cucumber cubed, a hard boiled egg and I used some existing conchiglioni pasta to make a quick cold chilli pasta salad.
I completely forgot to get milk .... oh well. Didn't need it, just thought it'd be useful to have one in "in case", although, on reflection, it's probably best I didn't get any as I've no immediate plan for milk.
EDIT: Just decided to knock up some little trifles, thought I'd start by stacking up the ingredients on the worktop, so I didn't forget... out came the jelly, out came the instant custard, out came the ... ah ... the dream topping... no, that needs milk. So I won't be making trifles today, unless I change my mind again and just make fruit/jelly/custard pots. I picked up a tin of cocktail salad the other week, which was intended for the bottom bit.
EDIT 2: Jelly pots never happened.... the idea completely went out of my mind until I just saw this post again.0 -

Hope the journey wasn't too bad Farway and you had a good lunchmy mum could never understand our unwillingness to visit on a bank holiday  if we survived the M27 the A31 or Wimborne bypass would get you a two hour trip could easily become four hours and then there was the trip home  in fact if I can't avoid weekend travelling I leave home 6.30am when going West during the summer
Nothing planned for this afternoon other than a visit to the garden centre which is five minutes away with my sister for a cuppa. I cooked some Mexican style rice and vegetables this morning with the last of the bacon chopped into it and that will do lunches for Wednesday and Thursday.
Lunch today was a small salad using the last of the tin tuna, potato salad, olives and a boiled egg so a kind of salad Nicoise not too sure about dinner will include some feather steak I've defrosted I was going to a stir fry but most of the usual stir fry veg went into the rice and i don't want to go to the SM

Good evening everyone,
The weather has been lovely here - too hot to do much gardening as I spent most of the morning getting on top of laundry etc. and trying to create some calm from the chaos and then the garden was in full son. Did get the bbq scrubbed out later on and more plants out to harden off. I got three loads of laundry dry so now have clean towels again without having to look out the "good ones":rotfl::rotfl:
Sourdough with cured salmon and some HM beetroot, horseradish & creme fraiche dip was excellent, I struggled (but managed just) to resist making another one;).
Younger son has nipped to the SM for some bits he needs and unless he comes back with something YS dinner is gammon steak, pineapple, salad and a baked spud. I'kk roast the lamb bone while the oven is on to make stock in the SC.
The weather is due to break here on Thursday so I'm definitely having a garden day tomorrow.:D0 -
Our weather is due to break Wednesday when the temperature is meant to drop to 14 and it's due to rain
. But can't really complain as we've had such a lovely weekend it's just a shame I'm back to work tomorrow.
Dinner in the end was the feather steak with mushrooms, broccoli, carrot ribbons and spring onions in a hoisin sauce with soba noodles. Very quick easy and tastyLife shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin0
