Good to see you back Caronc, as you say the best for him but one heck of a shock for you <<hugs>> sounds like you're joining Farway with your ham, egg and chips.

Farway that's better value than thin plastic ham, i dithered over it again today, that and a lovely leg of Dorset lamb reduced to half price on the meat counter in W*itrose but unfortunately not enough room in my freezer and I knew my sister was driving my nephew to the airport so couldn't ask her if she had room in hers :(. I must eat my freezer contents down or work out how to hide a second one in the dining room  but I think the former is probably a better plan

Elona hope you enjoyed the non-beef :rotfl: it happens to the best of us

The house next door had a sold sign put up on Thursday which has been very fast, we were thinking it was a lot of money for the state of the house but obviously not.

Lunch was oriental pork meatballs with vegetable rice, not sure what I was doing this morning but I dished up a large helping to take to work and then pinged it before realising :wall: there should have been enough meatballs for four portions but ended up with just three now. As it was a larger than normal lunch i only had a couple of crumpets for dinner

  • Having the single portion of biryani tonight but have taken sausage meat from freezer and will try new recipe for sausage balls which I can have over the next few days as lunch or nibbles.

    Good evening everyone,

Back to CFO until next week when the family comes back for the funeral but as you can imagine cooking isn't a huge priority at the moment.
Still very numb & shocked but thankful that my Dad passed peacefully in his sleep and it looked as though he hadn't suffered any pain or distress which I think is what most people would want for themselves.

:grouphug: Nice to see you back.xx

I am going to have a smoothie before I go out to the doctor, milk, yoghurt and berries.

I am making tortilla pizzas when I get in, tortilla wraps instead of pizza bases. I am having pineapple and jalapenos on them. I need to buy pineapple on the way home.

I'm bored of food... mostly because I seem to be forever "using up what I've got" and never get to a bit where I "actually choose something nice to eat and eat it once" :)

Breakfast today was: toast, beans, scrambled eggs... because the bread's dated today and there were 2 crusts and 3 slices.... so now I've just 3 slices to use up of that today/tomorrow.

I did enjoy the two days of fish/chips/peas (yesterday and the day before), but the other two pieces in the freezer are now less exciting to think about.

    It's nippy here.

    YS jackpot day in L's

After last weeks' YS desert in there it was all systems go this morning, just as well because I was puzzling over what to eat today
My haul included, 2 family size pizza, 20p each, 2 sushi, also 20p, 1 pack of cocktail sausage rolls, 20p, and 2 MFO ,beef in black bean + rice, @ 70p

Plus splashed out on bread flour, now going back to baking own, at least try it out again

Lunch was last of the ham, plenty for a sarnie, then piggy on a 20p sushi

After lunch I assembled a bread pud before the stale stuff in fridge climbed out by itself, now in oven, should be ready for sampling later this evening

Dinner will be one of the YS MFO beef in black bean sauce & rice, I'll freeze the other one along with the pizzas

Oooh, wish I'd seen the lamb. The ham episode shows at right YS /offer price a decent joint can work out cheaper than rubbish processed stuff
They should make freezers that look like sideboards, or wardrobes, solve a few problems. My number two freezer is parked in the lobby, keeping the Dyson company:D

Update, just been in the kitchen, lovely spicy bread pud smell in there

Now, maybe I could add some LO XCFO ice cream to a still warm lump after my MFO Chinese nuked dinner?

    Just a random thought

Another day of: eat up what you have to eat.... which was a bit of a mixed bunch.

After the breakfast toast/beans/eggs (using the bread, but not quite all of it)....

Lunch was 1 part-baked baguette (as I'd opened the vacuum bag about 2 days ago, so the 2nd baguette needed using up) + I did some egg/salad cream to go in that. And a sausage roll, as the oven was on.

Tea has just been spuds, cheese, beans because I bought 2.5Kg of spuds and would like to "break the back" of those before any show any signs of sprouting.

Oh yes please if there is any spare:).

    Good evening everyone,

A better day food wise as I had banana & toast for breakfast and made my sister and I soup & a bagel for lunch. Tonight I'm having chicken thighs & roast veg. I had made ham & lentil soup on Sunday and it was lovely thick today. There's enough left for lunch tomorrow though it might need thinned a bit or it will be eaten with a fork rather than a spoon:rotfl:

Spent ages polishing my Dad's shoes ready to go to the undertakers tomorrow. Certainly not polished to his exacting Marine standards but they are certainly clean & shiny:). When my kids had special events like school proms they used to take their shoes to him to polish, when elder son was an usher at wedding he laughed that he didn't need a mirror to check his hair was okay he could just look down:).

Going to put my feet up and watch some TV tonight before an early night as I'm shattered so hoping to get a better night's sleep than I have been.

I do like W*itrose meat from their meat counter and they do good reductions if I go in just after 1pm, they seem to be stocking Dorset lamb at the moment which I will admit to being bias over how good it is :). If I moved my shoe rack I could fit a freezer in the hall but it would be too close to the radiator, I'm wondering if I got a small chest freezer if I could put it in the corner of the dining room and throw something over the top to hide it.

Caronc one thing you can say about a military man well polished shoes and well ironed clothes, my BIL has done his own ironing for 40 years after telling my sister to press it not pat it, he was lucky not to wear the iron :rotfl:

Annual review today, when asked my long term goals I said to take early retirement at 60 so he's got me for another 5 years :D not sure if that's achievable but I plan to aim for it, or at least go part time more local to where I live. I'm not holding my breath on a big pay rise it's usually 2% across the board regardless of performance although he did say he had requested more for me from his manager as a thank you for the extra work because of staff shortages last year but there had been no response yet

Lunch was same as yesterday so oriental pork meatballs and vegetable rice, the last has gone in the freezer. Dinner was a plate of LO vegetables and potatoes Boulangere from Sunday a really cba meal.

PN the reason many of us have a full freezer or multiple freezer is because we get fed up with having to use food up because it's there. I've given up trying to explain that CFO means we are more likely to have a full freezer than if cooking for a family and why :o
