    Dumplngs dumpled & dumped in casserole

    Then I remembered I'd forgotten to add salt & herbs to them,:(

    At least I can always add salt if I find they lack a bit of ooomph

    Had I been to W'rose I could've tried out smokey Cornish salt in them, had I remembered of course

    I CBA .... I chucked four sausages in the freezer as I simply didn't fancy sausages again ....

    But a bit later on I couldn't think what to eat, so thought "Ah, tin of meatballs in tomato sauce!" (er, that's sausages, right).... but they weren't raw/whole sausages, a tin's different. I was going to serve with basmati, but CBA so I did spaghetti (quicker/less washing up). Still got the other half a tin in the fridge of those now.

    Good evening everyone,
    Good call on the pasta PN, goes better with meat balls IMHO than rice.:)
    Hope you get your conservatory work finished elona - should be worth the upheaval though.
    I could just eat a bowl of stew & dumplings it's just the weather for it but alas I've neither made and I'm not starting now.
    I decided that I wasn't going to eat the LO takeaway rice and didn't want it cluttering up the freezer so I put it out to see if the birds would eat it and they didn't half make it disappear. There will be a number of vaguely curry smelling birdies in my area tonight:rotfl:. I checked late afternoon before the wind & rain came back as if it wasn't eaten I didn't want to leave overnight to attract vermin and there wasn't a single grain left that I could see. I've put plain cooked rice out before but wasn't sure if pilau would be touched but now I know what to do with any LO rice if I have a takeaway :cool:.
    Trying to meal plan for next load of visitors which includes a family get together on Saturday for my Dad's birthday (if he is well enough). As it is a first visit to this part of Scotland for one of them she'd like to try some Scottish foods. On Saturday I'm going to make Balmoral chicken (haggis stuffed chicken) as it's easy to leave the haggis if not liked and I'll get some smoked salmon and local cheeses in. I do hope there might be LOs come Monday but suspect there might not be.......
    My poor Dad is still struggling with his tummy but tbh he's not helping himself get it back on track - porridge, cheese, raw onion, tomatoes and celery today (not all at one meal :eek:) are not recommended for a sensitive "system" and it was a bit of a difficult conversation tbh. I've offered to make him a few meals from what the sheet the hospital gave him outling what might be appropriate to eat during flare ups (basically very bland and not what he likes to eat) that he can freeze and just nuke but I'm not sure he'll take me up on it. Time will tell but I do hope he is feeling better by the weekend as it's his birthday.....
    Dinner tonight is chicken kiev, baked spud, broccoli and green beans.

    Five donuts Farway :eek: :eek::eek::eek::eek:

    Caronc if you're feeding curried rice to birds there could be some very dirty windows in you road tomorrow :rotfl: good luck in trying to manage your dad's diet, if he's like my mum he will smile, nod and then ignore what you have said. My mum had a pace maker and still fried everything and proved us wrong by living to 92, however she used to ignore that fried food upset her Crohns disease and affected her quality of life in later years :cool:

    This weekend it was a year from when I picked up his lordship from cat protection :D he can still be a bit of a scaredy-cat but we are getting there as long as there's not to many visitors.

    Having caught up on the thread I'm now thinking about chips, pizza, mac n cheese, dumplings and crumpets none of which will help my waistline :cool:

    Lunchwas HM chicken soup and crackers, definitely one of my favourite soups, maybe because it's a taste from my childhood :think:

    Dinner was also quick and easy, LO chicken and rice with runner beans and broccoli so only required a quick ping. Chicken was lovely and spicy, blow your nose chilli hot rather than take your head off hot :D

    I managed a 45 min walk lunchtime a bit chilly at times but it was a lovely sunny day, I really didn't want to go back to work :)

    Hadn't thought of that :eek::rotfl:
    Love your description re chilli heat descriptions, I like a bit of spice/heat but don't like it blisteringly hot. Sinus clearing does me quite happily:D.

    That's the trouble with food.... there are too many choices one could make, it becomes a burden to choose one and enjoy it as it's easy to think of the other things you could've had.

    I'm not going out shopping because I have food in, but I don't really have anything exciting, or what I fancy... and many ideas are missing some key ingredients.

    The freezer emptying is so close... yet so far. There are four sausages in there, about half a kilo of peas, some chillies, green/yellow peppers, 4 slices of bread, one portion of spicy parsnip soup .... and a pack of pitta bread I wish I'd never bought.

    I have this thing with pitta bread... in short, pitta bread is great if you're served it round some kebab meat ... and it's OK if you stuff one full of stuff in the summer (e.g. salady stuff, or tuna/egg/mayo). But, there's little call for a whole pack of 6. Also, many pitta breads (especially cheap and especially if they've been frozen) simply don't perform in use, falling apart when you try to use them.

    I need to make a resolution to never, ever, buy any pitta breads ever again as they under perform and have few uses. Only wanting/needing 2-3 a year it doesn't make sense to grab a pack thinking "they'll be handy"... no they won't be handy. They'll be an unwanted omnipresence in the freezer.
  • L/o pearl barley with veg for dinner this evening if needed after tea party, not sure if I need anything with it, it was much nicer than I expected actually so will do similar again. Made veg soup on Sunday so will have some of that for lunch today and then finish off tomorrow. May call in for chips on way back from dd's today and have pearl barley tomorrow. One of the things I like about cfo is that we can change our minds at last minute, depends on what we fancy.

    Not much in L's this morning, just boring bleach + pack of toms, only one YS 20p fruit salad, grabbed that, make a healthy change from 5 doughnuts:o

    I was on a food scoffathon last night, after my casserole & dumplings, only small dumplings this time, it was cheese & apple, then later a bowl of muesli + banana. But I think I'm sickening for something so maybe that's why?
    Sounds reasonable to me excuse anyway

    Caron, hope your dad is OK for his birthday, I like his food choices, but not ideal with tum troubles, and the thought of curried bird poo made me smile:)

    Lunch, I had some stale bread, thus grilled cheese on toast, with 2013 HM apple chutney

    With Gareth bashing the windows today is a pie day, one YS posh W/rose chicken pie defrosting, which I'll have with HM air fried skin on chips + LO baked beans

    PS PN agreed on Pitta bread, only suitable for eating if out & someone else is doing it. I never buy it, to new fangled for me to faff with

    I've eaten a sandwich, a bowl of salad and then a bowl of berries and yoghurt today. Some low fat crisps too.

    I might make carrot, potato and coriander soup tonight.

    For once I actually remembered to freeze the leftover coriander into ice cube trays so I could use them to pop into soups.:T
