A funny thing happens when you fix a pain .... this morning my jaw is aching from the drilling/poking and whatnot yesterday, but, even though I've had a couple of paracetamol this morning ... I suspect that my upper jaw also needs attention.

I had pain/achey bits in the bottom jaw, which was fixed yesterday, but that was the greater issue and, now that's (probably/hopefully) gone, I think it was hiding the nagging upper jaw.

:( Hoping it all just settles down and goes away; hoping the upper jaw nagging will turn out to be "oh well, you expect that, it's actually just pain that's moving round the jaw because of the actual problem you've now removed".... *fingers crossed*

Won't eat much today as I want to "rest" the area rather than aggravate it.

Bought chips yesterday, so they might be a (easy/soft food) good choice.
  • Had Morris crispy chilli chicken out of freezer last night and took out another ready meal out for tonight, both ys. Thinking of making a SC sticky honey chicken tomorrow, if I can be bothered to get breasts out of freezer today - it will make about 3 days worth or more. Just a thought, I have porridge every morning (do in SC in wee small hours) and I usually have Asda, well if I go to Lidl I sometimes buy their brand, same price per kilo but they taste so different, how can just plain oats taste different !!!! ????

Hope the new pain is just a protest at getting the other work done PN and not further problems.

    Good motning everyone,

A frosty start here but lovely and sunny here now:).
My cauliflower "steak" last night was very good- nothing like a beef steak but decent in it's own right. I realised after I had dished up that I had forgotten to cook the asparagus but I had enough on my plate as it was so no harm done.
I'm not sure what my plans are for today, I'm a tad wonky today again but I'll see what I can manage as the day goes on. Lunch will be cold lamb salad but I'm not sure about dinner, if I cba to make cheese sauce I'll make cauli cheese otherwise it will be either eggs or an oven bung it in.
  • Sorry about your jaw pain PN.

I've had a bagel this morning and I'm making HM soup for lunch. I have some lovely soft white rolls so I will have one of them too.

I find that with oats, too, whmf00001 - so odd! I have just discovered the Flahavans copy in A1di (Kavanagh's) - as I like bigger oat flakes - and actually prefer them (and they're cheaper, of course). I wonder if it's something to do with the way they are milled...

On oats, had my usual overnight oats with frozen mixed berries (again, A1di, defrosted in the porridge overnight) with some seeds and walnuts, and some vanilla protein powder. I picked up 500g from Superdrug for £2.85 :j They do crazy price reductions on a Weds night on random end of line products, plus I have my student discount for having done my postgrad.

Some YS Cauldron falafels (49p!), an apple, banana and yoghurt in addition to porridge so far - I seem to get really hungry at breakfast, hardly at all for lunch, and then again for dinner. Does anyone else find that?

Dinner is a YS veggie ready meal that I picked up from Sainsbury's (again 49p!)
I don't say I am a specific 'type' of eater (i.e vegetarian) but I do seem to go more towards veggie stuff, helps with the five a day I guess :T

Into L's, more YS fresh fruit salad pots, 20p pot, pud sorted for a couple of days
Otherwise boring stuff like milk & eggs

Apple tree sorted, https://www.blackmoor.co.uk/products/636 I'ts near me so I'll collect this week
I've bought from the likes of L's, Wilko etc, no problems but this year there do not seem to be any about. No doubt next week the shops will be stuffed full of them, all YS to boot;)

Lunch was Black Forest ham + salady bits sarnie

Dinner, has to be one of my LO beef casseroles, ideally would be salad but the casseroles need using or freezing and nuking is quick & easy

Farway / Caronc I went into W*itrose for milk lunchtime and stood gazing at the lamb, I blame you two :D. as it was W*itrose I was able to talk myself out of buying any it was a bit pricey  and I've no room to shoehorn it into the freezer, TBH I really don't want to roast a joint after work :(. I do have three lamb shoulder shanks in the freezer picked up individually YS from the meat counter so I may invite my sister and nephew for Sunday dinner soon.

I picked up some YS spring onions and portobello mushrooms so although life is too short to stuff a mushroom that will be tomorrow's dinner :rotfl: note to self don't leave onions in car on a warm day  just a slightly smelly drive home

My lamb was W/rose, Prince Charles had bred & killed it for me, YS or it would still be on the shelf, plus it was XCFO special treat I kept telling myself

Onions in car hot day, kippers would trump them:D
I did hear of someone who had spilt milk in the car and was reminded about it every time the summer came:eek:

I like my meat but equally like my veggies & pulses so quite happy with veggie meals (or almost veggie options e.g. I might use chicken stock). Unless it's a chop or steak I also tend to eat quite small portions of meat and as I like a decent plateful most of my meal tends to be veg based. I also find veggie food tends to be much cheaper per portion so allows me to spend a bit more on decent quality meat but still stay within my budget. My (cauliflower) steak meal last night cost about 80p for ingredients plus cooking costs and it was a really decent dinner.:)

Glad you found a tree Farway:)
Yes kippers in a hot car (or any smoked fish I suppose) would definitely linger, I once had a gammon steak (shopping escapee:o) lodged under the passenger seat of my car that I thought had been left at the SM check out. It definitely made a lasting impression......
I'll post up grannys' recipe when I get the chance ;)
We can compare as I have my Gran's one too:). While I like a piece of cake especially fruit cake, I don't really have a sweet tooth so now there's just me I seldom bake these days as even good keepers wouldn't get used up or I'd eat them for the sake of it!. I used to bake loads when the kids were at home as my two boys took some filling up especially in their teens!

Not much to report as it's back to wonky central here:(. Lamb salad for lunch was as good as yesterday's and there is enough lamb left to freeze two portions with gravy:D. Tonight will be something quick & easy as I've nothing prepped - probably soup from the freezer, "something" on toast or a spicy veg/noodle stir fry, I was quite late having lunch so happy with a lighter meal this evening.

Sorry to hear the Donkey is back Caronc <<hugs>> did changing your bedding let him out again?

As a Southerner can one of you Scots explain smiddy dumpling please :). I'm assuming a cake by the baking comment? I bake if I'm stressed but as a CFO with weight issues I try to avoid it although my work colleagues appreciate any bake goods that appear :)

You win Farway, lingering kippers smells trumps spring onions :rotfl:

Puffintail I eat less meat but better quality meat and try for meat free days. Money was tight when we were growing up but we had a big garden for my dad to grow veg, meals were often five different veg and potatoes on a plate and hunt the slice of meat and I still cook that way :D. Like Caronc I will often use chicken stock when required for veggie based meals or soup. I'm not really a big breakfast fan during the week I have porridge or Greek yogurt with fruit but usually 9 ish at work and then weekends I often skip it and have a early lunch / brunch.

Wall to wall sunshine here too :) although my lunchtime walk was interrupted by the Fat Face sale :p tomorrow I'll walk around the cricket field rather than up to town it will be cheaper especially as pay day isn't until Thursday ;)

Lunch was HM pea and ham soup, maybe a little warm for soup today but very nice :). Dinner was mushrooms stuffed with veggies and vegetarian haggis sprinkled with cheddar and blue cheese served with roasted asparagus and runner beans. Most of my dinner was YS including the haggis (brought after burns night :)) and the cheese was from a neighbour before they went on holiday so a healthy, cheap and tasty dinner

My smiddy loaf/dumpling is a boiled fruit cake - sugar, dried fruit, marg/butter, bicarb and water are brought to just under the boil until the fat is melted, cooled then eggs, flour and mixed spiced added before baking. Can be baked as a loaf or a round cake. It's very good and wrapped keeps really well. Mine is called "dumpling" because it tastes pretty similiar to a "clootie dumpling" though not steamed, a slice is lovely fried in a cooked breakfast.:)
ETA - this is the same as my recipe except mine uses mixed fruit and granulated sugar http://strathardlehighlandgames.org.uk/smiddy-loaf-recipe.html
