  • Have I learnt new "regional speak" for the day Wort? Is "put me on" equivalent to "keep me going"? As in - "I'll have a banana to keep me going till lunchtime?"

Trade you "put me on" for West Country speak of "back along" - as in "I remember when I did that back along" (ie "some while back").:)

Weather-wise - yep...it's pouring and 'orrible here too.
  • I've had a very unhealthy breakfast of a bottle of coke and now a falafel pizza is on the oven

I've lost another pound, I'm not sure how.:p

Last year I sent an American visitor to the local sandwich shop telling her it was called big baps rather than fine baps  I then had to explain why the rest of the office got the giggles :rotfl: there may of been a demonstration with my hands. Some things don't translate well - in the early 80s I was asked by my supervisor (older, very prim, somewhat scary lady) to do some "b0nking" in the mail room with Alan:eek::eek:. Now he was a perfectly nice chap but I hardly knew him:eek::eek:, turns out it meant manually franking the outgoing mail....... The other connotation of that word hadn't reached her ears but apparently my face was a picture:rotfl:

    Still here, no sin bin

Dull day, rain due later, but shopping completed this morning, had a bigger XCFO shop today before the world goes mad at the end of the week

Even Iceland was back to normal, and Bisto duly purchased but forgot the FR eggs, darn it

Spot of XCFO luck at the bashed bin area in Asda,
6 posh all butter mince pies, bent corner of packet, 35p down from 1.39, goodness knows what's in them, dated BBE Feb 2019:eek:

635g of Quality Street, £1, box had lost it's lid & tin re - sealed in plastic bag. I've sampled one of the sweets, still good but I suspect someone had sampled a few when the lid came off;)

I've now got enough mince pies & chocs to see me explode from over eating

Lunch was solved in W/rose, YS mini Melton m pork pies, plus YS mini pizzas from Asda, saves any danger of CFO today

I'll have a mini pizza for dinner, plus no idea what else, but I'll not start on the sweets or they will never make it to the festivities

I had hoped the reduced offer veg would be about, but I couldn't face Lidl, and no t8sco near here, plenty of time so not worrying about it, let them eat mince pies:)

Pastures - we can still see your homepage underneath your name. Perhaps you could just put up a quick post on there to tell us how long you are in the "sin bin" for this time - so we know whether to expect you back again in a fortnight or what..

EDIT; Just seen there's a thread about her on the Discussion Time sub-forum re this. It's a 2 week ban.

  • I had a modified avocado toast dish for lunch, not because I am trendy but because I got a YS avo last night and had some white beans left over from last night, all mashed together with spring onions, garlic and lime. Very yummy. Last night I tried Seitan for the first time, which is made from vital wheat gluten and a totally new experiment for me. Apparently the VWG tastes pretty vile on its own so has to be masked by strong flavours, but the recipe I used was not sufficiently subtle for my taste but I will have another go at doing a Turkey type meal if I have time before The Day. Sweet potato and leek soup for tonight.

  • Never actually got a lunch break at work today, so it was a case of each a ham ploughman's baguette from the works canteen as quickly as possible whilst typing with the other hand...

Tea was the last portion of tuna curry from the freezer & 3 chapattis. Not planned on when I'll do XCFO shop. I get paid on Friday, but don't fancy the mayhem of the weekend. Might just get it all tomorrow afternoon & pay on credit card to be paid off after payday. Need to write myself a list/plan so I've some actual proper foody stuff that's filling as well as things like mince pies & puddings to graze on. Can't believe that's come round so quick.

    Good evening everyone,
Sounds as though you've got all the festive "essentials" covered Farway bashed or not:)

:wave:Living proof - you've reminded me I have a couple of avocados in my fridge bought on SO that were rock hard. Suspect they have gone the other way now:oThankfully the gales and rain have passed leaving behind a calm but rather cold evening. Unless it warms up tomorrow I suspect it my be slippy underfoot after all the rain.
Locally we talk about having a "push past" as a snack to keep you going until the next meal:).
My Dad thoroughly enjoyed his HM wedges with onion gravy, grated cheese and a buttered roll. I thought I had made too much and there might be LOs and I only had enough to fill my roll but he had two platefuls:eek:. Needless to say he phoned to say he was just going to have some soup for his evening meal I'm not surprised. Fingers crossed he'll have no ill effects in the tummy department though they were SW style wedges so not greasy but it was good to see him enjoy a meal so much. Simple pleasures and all that :D. The gem that he is gave me a full savings card of Morrisons stamps to put towards Christmas food. He gets a couple of ££s when he's in shopping and likes to do this for the family and saves him feeling he needs to bring or make something when he comes over. When I was growing up my Mum & Dad always hosted over Christmas and my grandparents always gave them some cash in an envelope to help towards the costs and he wanted to continue this. As a family we do spend a lot on food & drink over the holidays but everyone chips in so it isn't too huge a cost for anyone and it means we can have all the luxury things we enjoy. We all like the good things in life:D.
This may well be my last CFO evening meal until the 2nd of January as my younger son will be arriving tomorrow and his brother & his fiancee on Saturday. No doubt the "kids" will be out and about some evenings but I'm looking forward to the company for a couple of weeks.:) I will no doubt though be quite happy to it being back to mainly "just me" in the New Year;).
I'm in cba mode so dinner will be something simple like mushrooms on toast or a bacon butty.

Loving the sound of those cheesy chips CARON , n how lovely is your Dad to show how he appreciates you:D
We always used to have massive Xmas dinners at Mum's, but since Dad died ten years ago, me n Mum spend the day together. Our family is really fragmented nowadays :(

Familys are so complicated candygirl and mine is certainly not exempt from that! My Mum loved Christmas and always made it very special for us but sadly died suddenly over the festive period 16 years ago. As she would have very much wanted we still make a big thing of getting together at this time which feels like a fitting way to remember her:D. She'd be horrified thogh that I don't deep fry my roast potatoes before popping them in the oven:rotfl:
