How annoying Money, like a lot of things, small quick job but not if you don't know or can't DIY

Looks like it will be done tomorrow.

    Cost £25.
  • I think that article is very slanted. I think the biggest charge there is for holidays and that is because singles get a room to themselves. If I want a separate room to my husband (bliss no snoring) then I'd had to pay the same as a single person. I don't see why a business would be expected to subsidise single people. Why would they?

Car insurance, well you can get a discount if you have a named driver, so my son has me on there and it reduced his insurance so that is easy to get round.

Council tax pays for alot more than emptying bins, how about the elderly single, childless people who need more support from social services?

I've spent a fortune bringing up 4 children who are all tax payers paying your pension so maybe you don't come out of it badly.

Hope you're enjoying the "Cooking for one" thread that this is.

Hence it's one "safe place" that we can say what we think.

We are very familiar with "what families say". We get all the slanting in favour of families and couples everywhere else than on this thread....
  • Married people often cook for one, my husband worked away for years so I cooked for one Monday to Friday, he is disabled now so sometimes it is just me and I cook for one.

You obviously have a chip about this, maybe it would be good to look at the bigger picture.

Just because we are CFOs now doesn't mean we have always been so. After 30 plus years of being wife and mother, I cherish the independence that comes with singledom. My children got the education that enables them to pay the taxes that fund my state pension, not to mention my winter fuel payment (that being single I get in full, only got half when I was married).

I do resent the single supplement for holidays but then I wouldn't want to share either, so I pay up with no more than a token moan.

Why would I resent paying council tax? Maybe I don't use the full range of services - but that's because I'm lucky and still have my health. Others are not so lucky; I am grateful for the services provided to them. My sadness is that those services are underfunded, which means by extension that I and other lucky people should pay more.

Sorry but I find this rather confusing, what point ware you trying to make here? No one has suggested that married people don't sometimes cook for one, just as those who normally cfo sometimes cook for others. Am also unsure just who you are accusing of having a chip. You haven't quoted anyone and cant see any post to indicate that anyone has a chip about anything. This is a lovely friendly thread, everyone is made welcome and all opinions respected.

I think the single supplement on holidays is annoying, but of course there is only one neck quaffing at the bar and not two was my understanding why the difference

Lunch was the fried egg sarnie

Had a virtual mooch around Iceland preparing for the BIG SHOP come New Freezer day
I think it's going to be harder than I imagined, a lot is family sized and I don't want to have to cook a frozen whatever then have to divvy it up, pointless

Then I have my picky ethics,
Poultry products are out, bound to be factory farmed or worse, same for Piggy products. and Lamb, likely to be Halal
Fish & veg are mainly OK but I don't want a freezer full of cod, chips & peas

Really confirmed I that need to buy my meat on line from somewhere ethical free range or similar. I forget who but I remember some CFOers buy meat online, would you mind posting name again please?

  • I got up late today as I have a cough still!

I had a gluten free pizza with added sliced mushrooms and ate about 3/4 of it. My husband called to say that he was getting chips and I said I was having the pizza. Of course when he came in I had a few of his chips as they smelled so nice!:D

I'm going to have the rest of the pizza with a load of steamed veggies later.

He bought me some Night Nurse so I'm hoping that might do the trick.
