Unless it looks mouldy or smells damp/sour yes it should be depending what's in it. Might need a good bit of boiling though.....
PS- by soup mix I'm thinking dried grains & pulses etc. rather than packet (instant) soup- though that would probably be ok too.0 -
How annoying Candy Girl will they try again or will you have to go to the depot to collect ?
Glad your dad enjoyed his lunch Caroncis this the last one or will there be another one before Christmas? I fancied split pea soup last week but couldn't find any split peas, I must look again :cool: contrary to what my sister believes I don't have every thing in my 'magic' larder cupboard :rotfl:

I haven't had tinned potatoes in over 40 years, we never had them at home but one of my sisters would make potato salad with them, probably with salad creamI remember not enjoying the taste of them which has always put me off, they probably taste a lot different now :think: but I have that taste in my head
. Shame really as they are convenient.
I may be losing the plot :rotfl: I couldn't find my book last night I was sure I brought it home from work and searched everywhere, I found it at home tonight, I'm assuming there was a good reason why I put it in the laundry basket :think: at least I can finish it now :rotfl:
Too cold and damp to walk lunchtime, they threaten sleet but I think we've avoided it, to far south for snow. Lunch was soup, followed by a fruit salad of pineapple, kiwi and fig all picked up YS yesterday when I went for milk. Dinner was chicken and vegetables on noodles

Personally I'd boil them thoroughly and eat:D0 -
I freeze it in flattish rectangles of about the depth I would want for cottage pie etc, so I can just unwrap and pop on the top from frozen.
I flattened it.... spooned it into bags, clipped the top of the bags, then flattened it by hand. Not to any specific size/shape as I don't know what it'll be used for, or which dish that'd be in.... to use it I'll defrost it in any case, then it's pliable and will be "any shape".
I figured if I defrost 250g and need less, the rest is still OK in the bag in the fridge for 2-3 days after defrosting.... and I use/eat a lot of spuds so it's not difficult to do something with the remainder if needs be.
250g didn't look a lot... 100g would look too miniscule to be of much use in the main. I'd most likely just make cheesy mash or similar, as a main meal, so 250g would be able right... or two of those to be fair some days0 -
Thought for the day being I've just been reading an article about the effect cold weather has on human bodies. The bit that struck me was an "Ah-ha - that's why my body is being awkward at the moment and telling me it's hungry when I know very well it can't be".
The bit in that article being that they are quoting that research at Stirling University indicates that "people who keep their household temperature above 23C have on average significantly lower BMI levels than those who keep their homes below 19C". They reckon cold weather triggers primitive caveman/woman thoughts deep down in our subconscious about "Hard winter - less food around to forage/kill/etc. Better stock up and start eating...." and they've found people eat more when it's colder.
That thought did not go down well with me - at the thought of being controlled by "primitive urges" rather than a logical 21st century mind....:cool:
I could do with them expanding on that thought - and defining exactly what they mean by "significantly lower" and coming out with a graded scale as at 19C, 20C, 21C, 22C.
Personally I've found myself whacking the thermostat up more often (ie from 21C to 22C) since starting to lose weight. Wondering if this means I've got to whack it up to 23C until the diet is finished....errrm...and I find 23C a bit warm for me (my optimum being 22C I've found). I feel an experiment coming on - next time I'm hungry and shouldnt be logically I'll check what temperature my house is....and, if it will save me eating, then put the thermostat up...
Needs must - best case analysis is 5 more weeks of dieting is due as it is...0
