I've never really had any yearning for one, but happened to spot a small/manual one, in a stack of brand new ones, at a car boot, for 50p, so I bought it "in case". Not used it yet. I figure it might make a nice little bit of grated carrot in a summer salad.... not that I have many salads.... so it'll need a combination of it being summer, having salad stuff, fancying salad, happening to have a carrot in summer - and remembering the gadget... could be 2-3 years really.0 -
I bought a spiraliser a few years ago and have only used it about 5 times.:o It's at the back of my cupboard with the burger press I never use!:rotfl:
It is nice in summer to have courgette noodles with pesto.:)0 -

Back from hospital, this time is was in and seen on time, all over, including blood test & ECG in about an hour
Major hold up was the traffic queuing to park, there are two roads into the site, from opposite directions giving crossing traffic, there are parking spaces but bottlenecks occur with some coming & some going, plus no one really knows where to go:(
Upshot is operation should be after Christmas, maybe a couple of days in hospital, being CFO there is no one 24 hours post anaesthetic, so stay over. Suits me, at least no worry if a problem, and no CFO either
I came home with two yummy fruit style cakes from the Friends stall, but because I bought them in a hospital they are medicinal surely?;) Should've been on prescription really:D
I found my dinner as hoped, YS in L's. RM nukeable Black bean beef with egg fried fried rice
Lunch was a one egg omelette sarnie, should've been a fried egg but yolk broke so hence omeletteSo tomorrow I've taken out a salmon fillet and intend making cauli cheese!
:j
Sounds good to me, I've got a 59p L's offer cauli just waiting for that, must remember to get the salmon out
I had a spiralizer, used a couple of times only. DD has it now
PN, thanks for tip ref pasta pack, never thought of nuking themEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
Sounds like everyones's been busy these past few days?
I've been worn down by work a bit so been enduring long days and early nights....
Today I finished work at 1pm, and had a tuna curry from the freezer with 3 chappatis for lunch. Then spent the afternoon hugging my hot water bottle and browsing the internet.
I need to wash the dishes and then get busy making a pasta bake - if i can be bothered....
I finish work at 2pm tomorrow, then i'm off for the rest of the week, so could do the pasta bake tomorrow and, tbh, i'm tired today and feeling decidedly cba....
Quick option is some breaded fish, some McCain french fries and nuked garden peas.0 -
I’m back from my holiday and back to CFO. Last night wasn’t great, I was wrapping Christmas presents and didn’t feel hungry so didn’t realise the time. Once I noticed the time at 9:30pm I had some crackers and cheese, I don’t like eating that close to bedtime.
Today I think I’ll have salmon and roast veggies, I should probably go and turn the oven on now.0 -
I can't remember eating anything today... so wrapped up in doing the spuds, other food seems to have been forgotten... either that or I've forgotten... I did have a spoon or two of spuds as I was scraping out the dish...
But tea ended up being just chips/beans because I CBA to open the freezer door, take out a big fish cake and open the packet ... and I CBA to open the fridge, take out cheese, get the grater and grate cheese then wash up the grater. So chips/beans it was
I'm running out of a few things now... last tin of beans have been opened... no eggs ... no bread .... quite low on cheese ...
I've stuff in the freezer I could use.... 1Kg beef mince, 1.25Kg of mash, 2 big fishcakes, some peas, some hash browns.... but they're "stuff I always eat".
In the next week or so, I suspect I'll get round to doing something radical, like kofte kebabs and spicy rice or something.... just not today... or a kedgeree (that needs more shopping though) ... but not today ....
10,000 things one COULD make.... but not today.0 -
PN, I very much got hit by the "not today" today.
I've managed to wash all the pots & just cba to cook, so I decided to have the cheapy MrT cream cheese on two matzos. It tasted like, & had the texture of, a thick Greek yogurt - but more watery. Won't be buying that again. It was called Creamfields.
I'll need to go buy some proper cream cheese on my way home tomorrow cos I need a dollop of it to go in my pasta bake. A tidy kitchen means I'll be more likely to be 4rsed tomorrow.
The Creamfields fruit yogurt is quite nice, but full of sugar. Think I'll be going back to 4ldi next month.0 -
Good evening everyone,
PN- sausages in bacon have always been part of our Christmas meal though known as "kiltie sausages", it wouldn't be Christmas without them.:) When I make a batch of mash I freeze it in 1/2 cup portions which is about 100g. One usually does me but easy to scale up if I want more. I freeze it in flattish rectangles of about the depth I would want for cottage pie etc, so I can just unwrap and pop on the top from frozen. I have three portions LO to freeze tonight.
flubberyzing - never though of making mash from tinned spuds. I keep a tin in the cupboard as a stand by but usually roast in a little oil & hebs until thet are crispy:).
candygirl - hope you enjoy spiralizing, I toyed with getting one but reckoned it would gather dust so ended up not bothering. I have a mandolin (scary thing:eek::eek:) if I want thin lengths though after a bad cut I am wary of using it.
Farway - glad you got on ok. Cakes bought at hospital are definitely medicinal;)
Hope you had a good holiday GrowingPlants, my you are organised wrapping presents. I'm still mainly at the planning what to get stage though I have bought the biggest one I need to get.
Novice - shame about the cream cheese, I buy the Creamfields cottage cheese & brie fairly often and find them both pretty decent for the money they cost. I had Aldi cottage cheese during the summer and really wasn't impressed.
It's bleeding baltic tonight I think I'll be taking a hotwater bottle for my feet to bed tonight as well as the usual wheat pack for my back. Think it's time to look the flannel bedding out!
My Dad enjoyed his lunch (as did I) and we got his online stuff done as well even though he forgot his specs.
With even colder weather forecast over coming days I decided this afternoon to make a pan of yellow split pea soup. I love the pressure cooker for pulse based soup as they take no time:). It will be soup lunches for the rest of the week. I didn't get the length of "buthchering" the gammon joint but did tackle the turkey thigh:). Two bags of meat have been diced and frozen and the bone, skin and scraps are in the SC with some pot veg for stock. It can chunter away overnight and the house should smell lovely tomorrow:).
Dinner should take 5 mins to prep and not much more to cook so an easy one.I do need to sort out the kitchen though before I settle down for the rest of the evening.
