Cooking for one (Mark Three)

I always fail miserably at meal planning, particularly for teatime. Work lunches I'm great at (bung whatever I've got between two slices of bread, basically).
I always think I'll cook something great, then either cba or don't fancy it...
Today I managed to spend nothing on random food. Took tuna/cucumber sandwiches to work & resisted the urge to buy a ready meal on the way home. Tea was a tin of Mulligatawny soup & two PB petit pains. It was nice enough, & was warming too. Heinz tins were on some sort of offer a while back so I stocked up. Always a good back up for if I cba but also can't afford to keep buying expensive convenience food.
Tomorrow lunch will be tuna sandwich, some quavers & 2 bourbon creams & I might walk to work & back. Got my thick winter coat out in preparation. Maybe the chilly air will help me to stop feeling lethargic.0 -
Is a scotch pie similar to a Holland's meat pie, caronc?
I love those! The amount of fat that comes out of them is incredible....
I'm originally from Lancashire, so raised on Holland's pies. I always stock up on them frozen when T have them on offer.0 -
Good evening everyone,
38 inch bust Money- I've not had one of those since I finished puberty.....:rotfl::rotfl:Even when very slim I was always top heavy and I've a wide back which doesn't help;)
We definitely must be related Caronc I've always been top heavy I woke up one morning and they were thereit's a family trait known as the family shelf :rotfl: Sorry for the bust talk Farway
PN when I walk on my own I listen to music, you just have to be careful especially when crossing the road, when I use to walk to work it was 2 miles each way and it helped to fill the time.
Mostly my menu planning is flexible eg it may say chicken for Monday but not necessarily what I'm going to do with the chicken, it also helps so I can plan what to take for lunch the next day as I don't take sandwiches.
I raided the freezer for lunch today, all luxury items picked up YS this yearsmoked salmon, prawns, smoked chicken I'm hoping they don't expect it every time :rotfl: served with a green salad and a buck wheat salad with feta. With enough left overs for dinner
so saved me cooking tonight

I feel like I'm getting better at meal planning... I consult the cupboard and freezer to see what's in there, with a view to "use that first", then build a meal plan around that, and whatever else I fancy to fill the gaps. Then I build a shopping list from that.
Yesterday, before tutoring, I had 2 frozen burgers, broccoli and mash. For the burgers, I was meant to grill or fry them, but I can't be bothered to do the required babysitting that comes with those options, so I whacked them in the oven for 15 mins, flipped them, then another 15, and they came out fine.
Tonight will be the same thing, as I always use up the fresh stuff first, then move onto the freezer or store cupboard meals.
Tutoring last night was fine. A girl from China, who has only been in the country a little bit over a year. Considering that fact, her English is very good, but her mum is keen for her to make faster progress so that she can do exams confidently in a couple of years. This time we talked about the history of bonfire night, and she seemed amazed to know why fireworks near her house were going off! Any talk of it last year would have gone completely over her head, so she's experiencing a lot of cultural events for the first time this season.
PN - I enjoy a walk - just half an hour around the local area suits me. I do occasionally plug myself into my phone to listen to an audiobook, or a podcast, but not very often. For me, I'm most inclined to take walks when I'm feeling stressed out or anxious, because they calm me down. And part of that is listening to the wind, the cars, the sound of my footsteps.
I'm also aware of personal safety - some parts of my walk are rather isolated, and I prefer to keep my focus on my surroundings, just in case.Because it's fun to have money!

Awake at 6 am cos the heating had kicked in ! As it's set for 8° overnight, I was surprised, when I looked at the temp on the monitor it showed 15 . Not sure why?? Turned it off at the boiler.
Washing is on the line again, I got towels dry yesterday. Just a few whites today . The forcast is for storms later in the week !
Plumber is back , the cat doesn't like the noise, poor thing comes in the hears the racket and scrapers.
I've got salmon fillet and dauphinoise potatoes with carrots and broccoli for tea.
Lunch will be a cheese salad roll. With yogurt and fruit.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0 -
For breakfast I went with two hash browns, some beans (already open) and the last two eggs (scrambled). Nice, quick, hot... splash of brown sauce over the top and a black coffee.0

Good morning everyone,
I did enjoy my pie last night and there's another one in the freezer for the next time I get a notion.
After it being so cold last night (-3C) when I headed to bed, it's certainly a bit milder milder. The downside is there are snow showers forecast:eek: though I doubt we'll get any as we are right on the coast.
I'm undecided re dinner tonight possibly bubble and squeak with some of the root veg mash. I've cold meat to use up so a salad sandwich will be lunch.
Tesco are due in a bit with a massive order mainly for the do at the weekend. I'm on "operation buffet" countdown:rotfl:0 -
Thanks Farway,
Snap Wednesday, I'll now be having the jackets with beans and cheese with salad.
It always reminds me of this time of year.:)PasturesNew wrote: »Daft question, but is that what people do? When people went for a walk I assumed they went for a walk - it never occurred to me they'd also play music.
I've never had a music/earphones system, so it'd never occur to me to play music and walk, indeed, I'd feel that was "potentially dangerous" as it'd switch off my general alertness through not being able to hear what's going on around me.
Is that why people who walk don't get "bored" - because they're actually just plodding while listening to something?
I always say "what's the point of going out for a walk ... you've seen it before, when you get there you've seen that .. and now you have to plod home again".
I am really trying to get my fitness levels back. I do get bored if I'm not listening to music. I think I'm just getting bored of listening to the same songs. I download albums but then listen to the same songs over and over!:rotfl:
I don't listen to music on the underground anymore after one of the terrorist attacks and a man said he didn't notice what was going on because he had his headphones in.:eek:0 -
I want to be the Queen ... at an appropriate time somebody puts a menu in front of you and you read what's for dinner... then you can poke at the card and say "don't fancy that" if you wish ... or "don't skimp on the chips" ... and forget it until a hot plate of food arrives.
Lunch was 2 chocolate digestives.0 -
I have noticed I feel a lot less hungry since I've been walking again. I gained a lot of weight over the past few years so that is very welcome!:D
I've cooked brown rice, black beans, cherry tomatoes and vegan cheese this morning and had nothing else apart from coffee.
I need to use up a stir fry tonight. I might have a peanut and chilli sauce and some tofu.
I'm about to go on my walk! It's not as cold today. Probably might need my scarf though.2025 GOALS
