At the weekend I bought the L1dl bombay spuds to go with my takeaway. Didn't rate that and so still had half the pack untouched. Right now I'm half way through cooking basmati rice - and I'll be nuking the remainder of that nasty bombay spuds with about 1/3rd of a tin of beans.... so it's a form of bean & spud curry with rice in about 5 minutes' time.
EDIT: Just had a little taster, that's more than passable .... just another minute or so to go.
I'll tip the curry bit into the dish I've cooked the rice in... saves washing up another bowl
I'll keep the dish from the bombay spuds as that's my preferred dish shape/size for when I make a mac cheese, or cheese sauces in general - and I have been without a dish of this size/shape for 2-3 years now so that'll come in handy.0 -
Good morning everyone,
The storm has passed it's very still this morning and blinking chilly. The forcast is for it to remain just in double figures today and dip quite a bit tonight. I think it will soon be time to swap my summer duvet for a heavier one. I don't seem to have any storm damage as such just lots of debris and although I took them down, a couple of the hanging basket toms are looking woeful so will be getting composted. I'll pick the fruits and they can ripen indoors.
Dinner tonight will I think be the other portion of the braised steak and onions I cooked the other week.0 -
Morning all,
The wind has gone now, but it's been raining all morning here.
I've been having some strange dreams the last few nights, that keep waking me up. Last night for instance, I dreamt I was having to fight off a gang that were trying to kill my neighbours dogs. All a bit strange, but I do have a lot on my mind at the moment. Nothing bad really, just juggling a lot of balls.
I've got my flu jab at Boots late this afternoon. I must remember to take the print-out saying I get 10% off for booking early. I forgot to take it last year, and they wouldn't honour it without the piece of paper.
And I've just thought, I'll need to change into a t-shirt for easy access. They do it right at the very top of your arm.
I also need to see if I can print off some photos while I'm there.
There's an M&S Food Hall on the same retail park as the Boots, so I might pop in there afterwards and see if there's anything good that's YS'd. Might be a good time to look. If I do buy anything though, it'll have to go in the freezer, as after tonight, I'm away for 2 nights and will have Sunday lunch out. So won't want another cooked meal at home until Monday. No point buying anything YS'd if it's only going to sit in the fridge until then!
I just hope the weather improves by then! I hate going out in the rain! But I am glad the wind has gone. Driving in strong winds always makes me nervous, as my little car is so light, it's easily buffeted by strong gusts.
A few years ago, I was driving down a dual carriageway when a strong gust caught my car and I nearly lost control. It was quite scary. Next time I update my car, I'll try and get something a bit bulkier. My cars only 7 years old though, so I'd like a few more years out of it first! Touch wood!Because it's fun to have money!

Morning all, dull, warm & windy here, seems our turn for real yellow warning stuff is tonight, when I'll be in bed, best time for it IMO
I had the last steak baguette last night, with fried onion in, hot dog style, uninspiring.
If YS quick fry steak ever arises again I'll get some big soft baps [oooer missus:D] to go with them
Breakfast was porridge, banana, honey & Greek yoghurt.
My HM yoghurt using this one as a starter worked fine.
I was wondering if it was "live" yoghurt because there is no mention of it on the tub or online. Seems it must be 'cos it worked
Lunch is looking like YS sliced ham with salad bits sandwich
Dinner, use up the dregs of the beef stew, plus I've some LO roast veg which I may nuke and use in lieu of dumplings.
Odd mix but it all goes down the same hole as I was constantly told as a child
My stale bread is building up, could be B & B pud on the way this weekend, but probably a sweet one this time round
The pears, I remember seeing the volunteer cook prepping fresh pears for a pud just last week, tomorrow I'll ask her what they did, certainly won't be fancy or boozy
Flubberzing, hope the weather is kind to your drive, I've only got a small light car and know exactly what you mean by buffeting, even lorries can do itEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
Haven't even thought about food for the day - then add on the dieting restrictions and head hurts wondering what to have. Any suggestions that count as low calorie and vegetarian seriously considered.
Spent a total of 6 hours yesterday one way and another involved in dealing with telephone engineers sorting out yet another telephone line problem - so my computer works normally at last for the first time since moving here. Not surprisingly - what I do remember of my dreams was that I was back in my home city living:cool:
Off to see if my vague memories of two possible recipes for me from latest Slimming World magazine are deceptive or no - have no idea what they were/have no idea whether I've got the foods in to do them with:rotfl:0 -
Money, hope your internet holds up this time round, a very frustrating time by the sound of itEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0

Veggie, slimming.... you can't beat a jacket spud and beans for simplicity.
Check out giant yorkshire puddings... surprisingly low in calories as they're mostly air. One of those "looks like/feels like" a proper meal too if you fill it wisely with an assortment of mixed veg, mash and gravy.0 -
Hmmm...could be a thought.
I've never done a giant Yorkshire pudding yet - just keep thinking "Must try it one of these days".
How do you do it PN?0 -

Spoon out a couple of heaped spoons of plain flour into a bowl. Toss in an egg and give it all a good "whisking" with a fork. Then add milk until it's all "batter like", bit of a "gloopy but flowing" liquid. Into the fridge if you can for it to rest for an hour or so... then tiny splash of cold water and give it a beating.
7" sandwich tin or similar size/shape... bit of oil in that, into the oven ~180C or so.... let the oil get hot, pour the batter in, bake for about 20 minutes or so.
I don't weigh things out as I just go by eye... because I know what a Yorkshire batter looks like... it's about the same thickness as a pancake batter if you've made that. It's not runny/watery. It's got some body to it.0 -
I reached into the freezer for some chips - and discovered a pack of fish fingers that'd already been opened that I didn't realise were in there, so I had four of those with chips for lunch0
