The wind has really increased over the past hour, huge gusts and lots of banging and rattling. No reports of damage/flooding/trees down locally but I suspect that's just a matter of time.
Definitely a day to be indoors if you can!

Re wind. A woman's died in Ireland - a tourist who had only arrived the night before. Her caravan blew off the cliff in 90mph winds.

I think the site should've had some responsibility for knowing how the weather goes locally, plus past experiences, plus the weather reports.... you'd think they'd have shut off that bit, or that field, or advised campers etc where to pitch/set down and anchoring advice.
It seems that most campsites will simply take your booking and leave you to it, without taking it upon themselves to close sections off or move people on or even reject a booking due to danger unless the person could prove they were up for it.
She was a Swiss woman in her 50s, so it was likely she had no idea a big storm was coming. Nor that the West coast gets a battering.
"Safe" down here on the south coast, it's still 50mph+0 -
Yesterday I had a jacket spud, beans and cheese - as I'd still got two spuds left over from the bag I bought about 3 weeks ago of baking spuds.
Lunch today was the final one of those spuds, with beans and cheese. Then, a bit later on, I removed two muffins from the freezer to defrost. I've just cut/toasted one of those and spread it with chocolate spread (that's on its last legs.... I could probably scrape out just enough for a thin coating for the other muffin later.0 -
Afternoon all, a bit windy here but the rain has passed through now, not enough rain to properly water gardens though
Glad your dad's OK Caron
Last night's YS fried steak was an easy meal, finished of the last of the rhubarb crumble as well
Breakfast was porridge, back to sliced banana today, with Greek yoghurt this time, needed to get some as new started fro my HM yoghurt
Into town for a mooch, only YS item was pack of button mushrooms, I've always space for a mushroom
Lunch was my promised YS steak & YS mushrooms, in a PB baguette. It was in the OK category and not as delicious as I'd imagined it would be
Followed by a mint club biscuit, and bread slice with choc spread:o
Now I'm stuck for dinner, I had hoped to repeat lunch but not sure now. Generally CBA will probably see me repeating it
Trying to think what to do with my scrumped pears, I know about the pears poached in wine type of puds, but not in this house. Others I've seen require the type of ingredients that are never in anyone's cupboard, ever, like strands of saffron, manchego cheese, chorizo or speck. No idea what the last one is except dirt in your eye:)
Something will turn up, but not Nigella knocking on my door
PS, just seen PN has defrosted a muffin, with choc spread. I've got one scone lurking in freezer, and a pot of choc spread. No prizes for guessing tonight's snackEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
Farway, I had never poached pears before, but had a few a bit hard , so had a go found a very old bottle of cherry brandy in the garage , and poached in that. Twas lovely! !
Today I had a pack of courgettes from aldi super 6, that I wanted to use so made a Greek briam, which is delicious, I'm having it with salmon and sugar snap peas and carrots.
I'll make it again !:jFocus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0 -
New fact learnt for the day - Greek briam = Greek style roast veggies, traditionally served with feta. Sounds nice.
Would certainly prefer it to diet roast veggies of today - ie done with nothing on them and served with diet hummus (ie no tahini in it) and some potatoes. Sighs....tells myself I don't have to keep this up for long...
Semi DOD (Day Off Diet) day today - as in I know I'll be having a glass or two of wine whilst out tonight.
Weather forecast here - wasnt that great weather today, but I gather it's Our Turn for a blast tomorrow and not wise to go out then. Oh dear - I think that means I'd better do some housework then:(:rotfl:0 -

Blue cheese works well with pearshaven't got a recipe but what about pear and chocolate puddling, or pear crumble (not sure if it would need another fruit as well)

Good evening everyone,
The storm is slowly blowing itself out so hopefully it won't be too noisy overnight.
I love roast veg especially "med" veg with loads of oregano and garlic:D.
Farway - we sometimes got pears from a neighbour that seemed resistant to ripening, my Mum used to sometimes make them into a sweet "toad in the hole" or an eve's pudding instead of with apples. Both were made with store cupboard ingredients:).
Stuffed pasta with tom sauce from the freezer for dinner tonight. I'm also going to make stock in the SC overnight from the roast chicken bones and back bone from the "spare" whole chicken. The house should smell lovely in the morning.
Most LO bits in the fridge have been used (or will keep) but tomorrow I will go through it all and make a loose meal plan so nothing goes to waste.0 -
I think we got away lightly weather wise today, wet and windy but not too bad just enough to keep me in lunch time.
I popped to my sister before dinner and she is blaming me for her coldI reminded her she works with children, so I'm refusing to take full responsibility :rotfl:
Lunch was the last of the minestrone soup, for dinner I'm still cba at the moment so it was scrambled egg and bacon with a sandwich thin which was the only bread in the house. I need to get my head back in the cooking zone :cool:Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin0
