Windy day here, with a spot of drizzle, needed the wipers on the way to L's, that's first for a long time, plus Autumn leaves blowing everywhere, soon to be blocking my drain again no doubt
Had to get milk & bread, the rest was whatever took my fancy. Which was YS sliced ham, plus YS thin cut frying steaks.
Daft really, how on earth can proper meat, aged Aberdeen Angus steaks be cheaper than some burgers? It briefly crossed my mind to have one of them in a sandwich, may even yet do that, there are 3 in the pack
Lunch was one of the YS ham slices, in a sandwich with salad bits
Dinner, not sure, one of the steaks very likely, with frozen chips & a mushroom omelette
Plus last of the LO rhubarb crumble, no custard left so it will have to be with yoghurt
Bit of money saving paying off, just picked 4 lovely looking Elstar apples, first time the tree has cropped. It was a YS tree from Asda, £2.25 in 2016.
There are 3 more apples left not yet ready for picking. The taste descriptions sound good, talk of "honeyed" looking forward to trying one
Chippy chips are sounding more & more tempting now with PN mentioning them.
I like the eating "deads" phrase, one to file away in the brain somewhere
I spotted the Uxbridge Arcade in Bodyguard, no internet cafe in my day, harrumph
Then I spotted HMS Victory in Vanity Fair.
Following on FB group it seems an ITV prog, due in the winter, is being filmed on the road I used to live in when I was 15. I'll try & catch that, it'll need tarting up, the road looked a dump went back a few years agoEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
I just went with chips and 3 fish fingers for lunch. That cleared the freezer of fish fingers. It's been overcast/windy here today... might be able to start cooking some of the stuff in the freezer soon if it gets to SC weather
I've got cubed steak, mince, frozen chicken breasts in there that've started to outstay their welcome.

Good evening everyone,
Wind is definitely picking up and I've secured as much as I can in the garden as we are forecast for gusts of 60-75 mph overnight:eek:. However, it was milder than it's been though getting chilly so I think the heating will be going on shortly for an hour or so.
Sounds as though takeaways/chippy tea are featurinf in CFO minds. It's something I seldom have but we did have fish & chips on Saturday night and it was lovely:D.
My poor Dad has had a difficult day tummy-wise and ended up in hospital to get "unblocked" so to speak. My sister has just collected him so hopefully things will settle.
Fridge is still unsorted, so off to do that now. A quick glance shows several small bits of various things so dinner is going to be a "hodge podge" of roast chicken, corn cobbette and either HM refried beans (I might freeze those as have had lots the past two days) or a baked spud. I picked a good load of runner beans earlier so will have some of those too. Thankfully most things will either be quick to use up or will be just fine for ages:).0 -
A windy and slightly damp start to the day, the cat demanded to go out the front door and came back in a lot quicker than he went out with an indignant look at me as it was my fault, he then went out the cat flap to check the weather in the back garden, silly s*d :rotfl:
I had to laugh at the 'spare' chicken Caronc, I think somewhere we must be relatedyou were just ensuring you had enough food in so no one went hungry  I hope your dad recovers quickly from his hospital visit
I take my breakfast to work most days, this time of the year it's Greek yoghurt and chopped fruit however today it was missing the yoghurt which was still in my fridge at home  at least it amused my colleagues as I sat there muttering under my breath digging under the fruit and only finding more fruit :rotfl:
Lunch was more of my minestrone soup, I remembered to take some grated Parmesan today, it is lovely and filling with the beans and pasta. Dinner was a little cba tonightmy spicy lentil soup has turned out a little thick  so I served it on rice as dahl :rotfl:

"Spare chicken" resulted from a plan to make Hugh Fearnley's baked chicken curry https://www.rivercottage.net/recipes/baked-chicken-curry last night which we all love but we ended up having a variation of LOs as after Sunday nobody CBA cooking, it shan't be wasted:D. But yes I do try to make sure there is plenty as boy as a family we can eat (and then some )and under-catering is just not going to happen:rotfl::rotfl:0 -

The woman in my family never knowingly under-cater, our genes won't let us :rotfl: we all used to laugh at my mum but she had the last laugh as we all do it
I'm going to book mark the chicken curry for when my sister comes up to stay next month, not something she cooks at home as my BIL is very fussy food wiseLife shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin0 -
Good call it's a brilliant curry:D;)
I think we definitely must have common genes:rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Hope your father is soon feeling better Caron.
Personally - I find a diet with a noticeable amount of roughage in it (ie wholemeal bread/potatoes having their skins left on) and a noticeable amount of berries and I can't see any likelihood of being "blocked" so to say from my personal experience - ahem....
You could get him on the prunes of course...:)
Probably having a noticeable amount of fruit (fresh and/or frozen) regularly should "keep things moving" I would say...0 -
Morning!
Yesterday's wind seems to have faded away now. A bit of a breeze going, but nothing like yesterdays! We ended up with rain as well, from late afternoon onwards.
The sun is out as well!
Glad to hear your dad got things moving Caron. Lots of fruit and veg for him! As someone who also has a tendency to get "bunged up" - I find a banana a day really helps keep the pipes efficient. A medical friend told me they were good for that. Plus, they're easy-eating. 5 bites and they're gone.
Only 2 more evening meals for me to provide myself with this week. Today and tomorrow. Friday to Sunday my mum and her sister are coming over and we're going to stay in a hotel a couple of towns over for the weekend.
Today's dinner will be pasta and something, to finish off the open jar of pasta sauce in the fridge.
Tomorrow will be something from the freezer, but not quite sure yet!Because it's fun to have money!

Good morning everyone,
Thanks for the good wishes re my Dad, he is feeling a bit better this morning though very tired. Unfortunately the problem stems from meds he needs to take for colitis. His diet roughage wise is ok but he has to avoid too much fibre due to his other problems so a bit of a vicious circle.
Storm Ali is due to peak here over the next few hours and it is scarily windy already so hopefully it won't get much worse.
I haven't decided yet what dinner will be though lunch will be a repeat of yesterday's toasted roll with pate and salad.:)0
